The State Department is investigating the whereabouts of a $5,800 bottle of whiskey the Japanese government gave to then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in 2019, according to two people briefed on the inquiry. https://t.co/Dwc2nwI03K

Golly, who was in charge of the State Department? They sound really incompetent. https://t.co/UUDAf0ncVC

It wasn't just the whiskey.
At least 20 types of items (meaning dozens, possibly hundreds of individual pieces) vanished from the State Department's gift vault as the Trump administration gave way to the Biden presidency.https://t.co/ghc2CNbBrX

‘GIFTGATE’ KEEPS ON GIVING: It wasn’t just the whiskey. At least 20 types of items (meaning dozens, possibly hundreds of individual pieces) vanished from the State Department’s gift vault as the Trump administration gave way to the Biden presidency, two U.S. officials familiar with the issue tell our own NAHAL TOOSI.
The State Department inspector general is investigating what happened to the gifts — including, infamously, a $5,800 bottle of Japanese whiskey. The IG’s office declined to comment.
While the whiskey was a gift from Japan’s government, most of the missing items are gifts the U.S. was intending to give other countries. Many bore Donald Trump’s insignia, the U.S. officials said…
Count on a whole bunch of obfuscation about ‘low-level staffers pilfering souvenirs’, but what I want to know is how many of these missing items are currently being displayed at Marred-A-Lago or related Trump-crony crime scenes. Hey, those things had Trump’s name on them — of course he figured they belonged to him…

Trump gave a speech threatening aggressive use of force. Immediately on its conclusion, peaceful protestors (in contrast to the violent ones there the night before) were clubbed and gassed. Then Trump waltzed out for a photo op. Perhaps it's all a coincidence. Perhaps. https://t.co/3u8TEEMoXb

All is for the best, in this best of all possible worlds! Please take our word on this, citizens!
It’d be less degrading if the Putin / Trump kakistocracy network were holding these media headliners’ blackmail material. But it seems to be just a craving for ‘normalcy’ — defined as ‘Repubs in charge, like our tinpot gods intended.’
Their plan was to rubber bullet and tear gas citizens all along? And this makes things better how?

In the comments to AL’s late night/overnight open thread post last night, there was a discussion about why Rudy Giuliani offered what he claims are Hunter Biden’s hard drives to the FBI agents who served the warrant and seized all 18 of his electronic devices. The reason he did this was simple and it was not, primarily, so he and his attorney could complain about it incessantly. The reason he did this is that the warrants for Rudy Giuliani’s electronic devices – all 18 of them – DID NOT cover hard drives alleged to be Hunter Biden’s! Had the FBI agents taken them, it would have allowed Giuliani and his attorney to challenge the search and seizure of his electronic devices – all 18 of them – covered under the warrant because the FBI agents had seized something not covered by the warrant.
The FBI agents, being professionals who know their jobs, did not fall into Rudy’s cunning trap. Which is why Rudy has been complaining endlessly about their refusal to take the hard drives he claims are Hunter Biden’s. Rudy is still a smart enough lawyer, or his attorney is, to have tried to pull this off. But because it failed and because Rudy can’t keep his mouth shut and thinks he’s far smarter and a far better lawyer than he ever was, is now ranting about it incessantly.
And that, my friends, is why Rudy Giuliani offered hard drives he claims belong to Hunter Biden to the FBI agents who raided his home and office and seized his electronic devices. All 18 of them.

A man of many moods is Mr. Giuliani, every one of them incriminating…
Rudolph W. Giuliani, the onetime personal attorney to former president Donald Trump, cannot claim his profession should have shielded him from the search warrant for electronics executed at his home and office last month, federal prosecutors argued in a filing unsealed Thursday evening.
The former New York mayor, through his attorneys, has argued that because of the extensive business-related communications authorities are likely to find on his phones and computers, it is impossible for the Justice Department to sort through his data without infringing on the rights of his clients.
In late April, FBI agents acting on a warrant obtained by the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan seized 18 electronic devices from Giuliani’s New York home and office, including some belonging to employees of Giuliani Partners. A phone belonging to D.C.-area attorney Victoria Toensing also was recovered…
Prosecutors argued in the letter motion that “the mere fact that Giuliani and Toensing are lawyers does not mean that they are above the law or immune to criminal investigation.”
“Under their approach, the subjects of a criminal investigation would have the authority to make unilateral determinations not only of what is privileged, but also of what is responsive to a warrant,” the prosecutors wrote…

New York City and New York State join hands. Too early (in the morning) for definitive pronouncements, but this is bound to have ruffled the Trump Crime Cartel family members’ expensive feathers, which is a plus in my books.
