Thank you, Jon and the The Daily Show writers.
Renowned Orange Supremacist Donald Trump was slated to drive the pace car for the 100th anniversary Indy 500, but fans — led by Indianapolis attorney Michael Wallack — raised a stink about it, arguing that he is “too politically motivated.”
Wallack had this to say about Trump:
I have no problem if Trump dislikes President Obama or his policies. But to step over the line into the realm of conspiracy-mongering is not good for politics or for America. And it should not be rewarded with the honor of driving the pace car at the Indianapolis 500.
Jalopnik reported earlier today that the Indy speedway folks were trying to figure out a way to dump Trump, after Trump claimed that he wouldn’t go quietly.
But, apparently, now that he has decided that he really is running for President, like ferreals ferreals, Trump has bowed out of the Indy 500 festivities:
I love the smell of cordite in the morning:
American and European forces began a broad campaign of strikes against the government of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi on Saturday, unleashing warplanes and missiles in the first round of the largest international military intervention in the Arab world since the invasion of Iraq, the Pentagon said.
Pentagon and NATO officials detailed a mission designed to impose a United Nations-sanctioned no-fly zone and keep Mr. Qaddafi from using airpower against beleaguered rebel forces in the east. While the overall effort was portrayed as mostly being led by France and Britain, the Pentagon said that American forces dominated an effort to knock out Libya’s air-defense systems.
In a briefing Saturday afternoon, Vice Adm. William Gortney told reporters that about 110 Tomahawk missiles, fired from American warships and submarines and one British submarine struck 20 air-defense targets around Tripoli, the capital, and the western city of Misurata. He said the strikes were against longer-range air defense missiles as well as early warning radar sites and main command-and-control communication centers.
President Obama, speaking during a visit to Brazil, reiterated promises that no American ground forces would be used. “I am deeply aware of the risks of any military action, no matter what limits we place on it,” he said. “I want the American people to know that the use of force is not our first choice, and it’s not a choice that I make lightly. But we can’t stand idly by when a tyrant tells his people that there will be no mercy.”
Remember though, this is just an Arab League action and there is no way the US will become one of the lead actors in this war. No way. When I said that the UN resolution would lead to heavy American involvement, I was assured by commenters who told me that suggesting otherwise means I am impervious to facts and reason and an unflinching idiot like David Horowitz.
Apparently, we are now in the Arab League.
More fallout from the Anonymous hacking of the shitshow fail parade that is HB Gary:
ThinkProgress has learned that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the big business trade association representing ExxonMobil, AIG, and other major international corporations, is working with set of “private security” companies and lobbying firms to undermine their political opponents, including ThinkProgress, with a surreptitious sabotage campaign.
According to e-mails obtained by ThinkProgress, the Chamber hired the lobbying firm Hunton and Williams to spearhead this effort. Hunton And Williams’ attorney Richard Wyatt, who once represented Food Lion in its infamous lawsuit against ABC News, was hired by the Chamber in October of last year. To assist the Chamber, Wyatt and his associates, John Woods and Bob Quackenboss, hired a set of private security firms — HB Gary Federal, Palantir, and Berico Technologies (collectively called Team Themis) — to develop tactics for damaging progressive groups and labor unions, in particular ThinkProgress, the labor coalition called Change to Win, the SEIU, US Chamber Watch, and StopTheChamber.com.
According to one document prepared by Team Themis, the campaign included an entrapment project. The proposal called for first creating a “false document, perhaps highlighting periodical financial information,” to give to a progressive group opposing the Chamber, and then to subsequently expose the document as a fake to undermine the credibility of the Chamber’s opponents. In addition, the group proposed creating a “fake insider persona” to “generate communications” with Change to Win. View a screenshot below:
The security firms hoped to obtain $200,000 for initial background research, then charge up to $2 million for a larger disinformation campaign against progressives.
One thing that even the dim bulbs in the media should understand by now is that there is in fact a class war going on, and it is the rich and powerful who are waging it. Anyone who does anything that empowers the little people or that threatens the wealth and power of the plutocracy must be destroyed. There is a reason for these clowns going after Think Progress and unions, just like there is a reason they are targeting wikileaks and Glenn Greenwald, Planned Parenthood, and Acorn. To a lesser extent the fail parade that was the Daily Caller expose on Journolist was more of the same.
You have to understand the mindset- they are playing for keeps. The vast majority of the wealth isn’t enough. They want it all. Anything that gets in their way must be destroyed. They don’t care if they poison every stream or crack the foundation to your house or if your daughter dies getting a back alley abortion or if every one in your mining town has an inoperable tumor. They just don’t give a shit.
And they are well financed, have a strong infrastructure, a sympathetic media, and entire organizations dedicated to running cover for them. They’ve even created their own mythical ideology in which they are superhero Galtian overlords, and this lets a few rubes who babble ignorantly about the free market get to feel like they are playing along, when they are really just being played. It’s these guys versus all of us, yet half the people being rogered (Republicans and glibertarians and hell, half the Democrats) have been convinced the other side is a bigger threat to their well being than the people with all the power, money, and resources. Hell, even in this post I can guarantee that at least five shitheads will come in and tell me they don’t like Glenn Greenwald because he uses too many words or that Jane Hamsher is shrill or because neither of them fellate Obama to satisfaction. Talk about not fucking getting it.
I don’t even know why we bother to hold elections any more, to be honest, the game is so rigged. We’re a banana republic, and it is just a matter of time before we descend into necklacing and other tribal bullshit.
And the verdict is a new motor or head gasket. Heads I’m really screwed, tails I’m just screwed. This must be what it is like to be Obama every day reading the daily briefings…
Too early to start drinking?
I actually yelled that out loud when I watched this video. By way of background, Obama has been stumping for various candidates and using his “Republicans drove the car into the ditch” metaphor. Analogy? Simile? Rhetoric? Kenyan Crazytalk? At any rate, here’s what he’s been saying:
He said Republicans had driven the economy into a ditch and then stood by and criticized while Democrats pulled it out. [That’s what she said!! What?! I may be 36, but I have the mind of a six year-old.]
Now that progress has been made, he said, “we can’t have special interests sitting shotgun. We gotta have middle class families up in front. We don’t mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back.”
And here’s a compilation of the reaction from the asshats at Fox News:
These dumb ass race-baiting twatwaffles with their faux concern-trolling and faux outrage… I swear it makes my brain ache. “My, my, my, President Colored Man just told all us here Republicans that we can’t drive the car. We gotsta sit in the back. You know what that means, y’all? It means that we’re all Rosa Parks, and Obama, our evil KenyoMuslim massa’ is going straight Jim Crow on our asses. I think I feel a little light-headed. Somebody get me mah smellin’ salts. I feel a case of the vapors comin’ on.”
I really wish Fox News–the entire damn network–would die in an excruciatingly hot fire. That network, in my esteemed opinion, is single-handedly ruining the fabric of this country. So you know what I say? LET’S SET THEM ON FIRE! GO GO GO!!
But watch that there video first, so you can get properly outraged. I’ll be standing at the exit, handing out matches and cans of gasoline.
I’m seriously stunned the Democrats are just giving up on the tax cut issue before the election. Sure, I predicted it, but I honestly didn’t think they were that stupid. Sadly, I misunderestimated how stupid/in the pocket of their contributors these clowns actually are. It’s depressing.
We’re just a few weeks out from the election, I still have never heard from any Democrat official in my area asking me for my help, the Oliverio campaign is non-existent as far as I can tell (I haven’t seen so much as a sign), Congressional Dems seem to have just said to hell with it, and about the only thing I imagine I’ll be doing is hosting an OFA call party.
I’m sitting here screaming “HELP ME HELP YOU,” and they Democrats ain’t listening.
