Via memeorandum, I see that Tom Tancredo is dropping out of the Presidential race.
Does anyone have any idea why he waited around this long to quit? And what Republican does this help the most?

You knew this would happen. I find it amusing that people don’t realize that Time’s Person of the Year has never been about rewarding people. It’s always been about recognizing impact.
Still, it doesn’t surprise me that greater Wingnutia is whining about Time Magazine choosing Vladmir Putin – even when there’re so many reasons, good and bad, that Putin has had a tremendous influence during his reign as Emperor of Russia. Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin have made the list in years past. I guess they (conveniently) forgot those ones.
But you know. It’s all about finding an excuse to write a “the MSM is biased” post. Stupid, really. Obviously, they wanted King George on the cover for a third time.

I ran over a screw today and was late for work. Ugh. So this is an open tread!
Has Bush wiretapped all the Democratic members of Congress? Does he have something on them? I’ve decided that Bush must have embarrassing personal information on every Democrat because, contrary to their election promises, they certainly seem to be completely willing to capitulate to the president on, oh, just about everything:
Can you say:
Merry Christmas, Congress. While the rest of us worked our asses off this year, you did next to nothing. Discuss.
Update: Will the 18-year-old who nailed Britney Spears’ 16-year-old sister get to spend the same amount of time in jail as Genarlow Wilson?

Modern-day conservatives wholeheartedly support domestic surveillance, torture, detention without a habeas corpus hearing, unchecked executive power, international influence through armed belligerence and pseudo-religious leader cultism. But liberals are sometimes vegetarian, just like Hitler. So we know who carries the fascist flag around here.
Discuss.
***Update***
BTW, Malkinite Mulsim hate is totally unlike superficially similar fascist scapegoat demagoguery because her internment camps don’t specifically involve death. Or if they do it’s by accident. Unless a suspect was tortured to death, and those guys were asking for it.
BTW X2, I can’t fucking wait for the first wingtard to show up and call Godwin.

Not a big football fan myself, but this seems to be good news:
Bill Parcells said he’ll probably accept an offer from the Atlanta Falcons to become the National Football League team’s vice president of football operations, ESPN reported.
Parcells said he has no plans to return to coaching, the network reported on its Web site. He said he’d oversee rebuilding the football team, including hiring a coach to replace Bobby Petrino, who quit after 13 games. Parcells, who led the New York Giants to two Super Bowl championships, quit as coach of the Dallas Cowboys in January.
Again, not a fan (more of a hockey kinda guy) but I recognize the positive economic impact of a winning NFL franchise. Atlanta could certainly use all the help we can get. Can Parcells pull it off?

Going to New York this weekend, so no blogging from me between Saturday and Tuesday. On Wednesday we start cooking the yearly bouchee a la reine and I brew an imperial stout.
About the trip, some radio show about food told me that Little Owl in the West Village definitely has the best dinners at a modest-scale restaurant in the entire Manhattan area. Obviously they’re right, and any NY area readers are welcome to agree completely in the comments.
Are you going somewhere cool? Acting as home base for the annual family reunion? Drinking heavily? Have at it.
