More nuts:
Former Georgia congresswoman Cynthia McKinney is on the political comeback trail again. This time, she’s running for president.
In a speech posted on her campaign Web site, runcynthiarun.org, McKinney, 52, ended weeks of speculation and officially announced her run as a Green Party candidate. She sounded the theme “Come Home To The Green Party” while attacking both major parties as supporters of the war in Iraq and tools of corporate interests.
On the upside for Democrats, she will not steal a lot of votes from the Dem. candidate a la Nader. On the downside, I might be forced to hear her deep thoughts.

Bob Kerrery apologizes for his transparently phony attempted smear of Obama:
Dear Barack,
I want to sincerely apologize for the remarks I made on Sunday in Council Bluffs, Iowa, after an event at which I endorsed Senator Hillary Clinton’s Presidential candidacy. I answered a question about your qualifications to be President in a way that has been interpreted as a backhanded insult of you. I assure you I meant to do just the opposite.
After you and I met during your primary campaign for the Senate, I wrote a public letter in which I said that that you were among the two or three most talented people I have ever met in politics. Nothing in your performance in the Senate or your campaign for the Presidency has altered that view.
I have said a lot of stupid things. I have said a lot of things that were interpreted incorrectly. I have said a lot of things I meant as a compliment but were perceived as an insult. I understand that this can happen.
But if ANYONE thinks this was an accident, or that this was anything other than more bilge coming from the Clinton camp, I got a bridge to sell you. Lemme guess, you think it was wholly accidental he chose the phrase ‘Islamic Manchurian candidate,’ too.
This is why people like me are instinctively repulsed by Hillary. If you still can not figure it out, go watch this video (via ObWi, where the reactions were spot on):
Pay special attention to Mark Penn. It is almost as if the mouse will slip out of your hand from the slime oozing from Penn. It is so clear what he is doing, he can not even keep a straight face while he is talking. Joe Trippi’s reaction is priceless- that is how normal human beings react to scumbags like Penn.
This Kerrey crap is just more of the same- it is not an accident this sort of rubbish keeps bubbling up from the Clinton crew. As much as I have tried to avoid being tarred as a Clinton hater, and as much as I have really, really tried to give her a fair shot, I think who you surround yourself with says a lot about you (Rumsfeld, Cheney, Addington, anyone?). I have had enough Rovian bullshit for one lifetime. Clinton has got to go.

Me in June:
[L]ord, what a tough spot for Republicans. At its heart the GOP has two basic camps [note: oversimplification for the sake of argument] – business conservatives who bankroll the party and the social conservatives/theocons who staff it. In that light one could say the towering achievement of Bush’s term as POTUS was that he defied the centrifugal forces of majority power and held the GOP’s unlikely coalition together as firmly and as long as he did. If so, his towering failure will undoubtedly be his adamant support of this immigration bill.I have tried for days to think of something that could wedge the social cons apart from the business cons than immigration but I just can’t do it. The Chamber of Commerce loves our current system because one can pay illegals practically nothing and they will thank you for it. In their view any fix to the current system has to keep bringing in large numbers of people with poor language skills (can’t have them reading those OSHA flyers on the wall) and a weak bargaining position, e.g. guest workers. Otherwise Americans had better get ready to start paying more for hotel beds, restaurant meals and packed meats.
The key problem is that the thing that the business cons need more than anything is exactly what the social cons desperately want to end.
The business con – social con split won’t go away because the fundamentals have not changed since June. The Chamber of Commerce still desperately needs immigrants of the legal and illegal variety, and the social cons will go on demanding that their candidates make the immigrants go away. The neocon vs. paleocon rift and the intramural theocon cage match aren’t going away either. Every faction of the old coalition has their own candidate, and for whatever reason (imminent defeat maybe) they’re going at each other like thieves in the third reel of a crime movie.
If you don’t think that the ’08 RNC convention will be a meltdown for the history books then you’re not paying attention.

Via memeorandum, I see that Tom Tancredo is dropping out of the Presidential race.
Does anyone have any idea why he waited around this long to quit? And what Republican does this help the most?

You knew this would happen. I find it amusing that people don’t realize that Time’s Person of the Year has never been about rewarding people. It’s always been about recognizing impact.
Still, it doesn’t surprise me that greater Wingnutia is whining about Time Magazine choosing Vladmir Putin – even when there’re so many reasons, good and bad, that Putin has had a tremendous influence during his reign as Emperor of Russia. Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin have made the list in years past. I guess they (conveniently) forgot those ones.
But you know. It’s all about finding an excuse to write a “the MSM is biased” post. Stupid, really. Obviously, they wanted King George on the cover for a third time.
