That Liberal Media
Dumbest Statement of the Decade:
If all the stories about what Kerry did in Vietnam are not balanced by serious scrutiny of Bush in the Vietnam years, the media will be capitulating to a right-wing smear campaign. Surely our nation’s editors and producers don’t want to send a signal that all you have to do to set the media’s agenda is spend a half-million bucks on television ads. -E.J. Dionne
Hilarity ensues.
Google:
Bush+National+Guard: Results 1 – 10 of about 703,000
Bush + National + Guard + Records: Results 1 – 10 of about 278,000
Bush + AWOL: Results 1 – 10 of about 101,000
Bush + Deserter: Results 1 – 10 of about 38,100
I tried to get Lexis-Nexis results, but it keeps freezing because there are too many documents to retrieve.

To the carping posters who want to claim that I should be comparing the coverage of ‘Bush Awol’ prior to the 2000 election and the ‘Kerry Swfit Vets’ prior to the 2004 election, I say nonsense.
At issue is the 2004 election, not the 200 election, because the 2000 election is OVER. Therefore, the comparison of stories about Bush Awol and saturation of the body politic with the Swift Vets is an apt comparison.
I might add another key distinction- the Bush AWOL stories are a media-generated phenomenon for the most part, while the Kerry stories are from an independent group who has a beef with Kerry. The media reaction to the latter has been, until recently taking up Kerry’s defense, to ignore the claims.
HDTV
I just got HDTV, and I now have ten channels in High Definition. I was wondering a few things:
1.) How many of you have HDTV?
2.) Did your viewing habits change when yo got it?
3.) Are you more likely to watch shows you have never watched before, simpy because they are in HD?
Personally, I have found myself watching anything in HD. I am actually having a soccer renaissance, since I get to watch so many games in HD. baseball is unbelievable, as are INDY car, Nascar, and football. Usually I am only interested in football and baseball.
Also, I get these two cable only channels, INHD and INHD2, and they broadcast all these IMAX movies which are just amazing.
The other thing that stuns me is how good old movies look.
At any rate, since I have ABC, CBS, and NBC, I notice that CBS seems to have more shows in HD, but NBC has a whole bunch of shows coming out inthe fall line-up in HD. I wonder how much my viewing habits will change.
I do know one thing. If the Hitler channel comes out in HD, I can cancel my social life.
Sound Familiar?
Also in the Gamespy 30th Anniversary of Dungeons and Drgaons is this interview with founder (essentially) Gary Gygax. I am not sure how many of you remember the scandals in the early 1980’s, when people were blaming D&D for anti-social behavior, including murder and suicide. It was nonsense then, is nonsense now.
It seems Gygax remembers who to blame for the bad publicity:
GameSpy: Do you find it interesting that what D&D went through in the ’80s and comic books went through in the early ’50’s is so similar to what video games are going through now?
Gygax: Oh yeah. The idea that a game is anything more than a game
A Beer with John Kerry
According to Drudge, this nauseating piece will appear soon:
On what to seek in a woman:
“Look for what gets your heart. Someone who excites you, turns you on. … It’s a woman who loves being a woman. Who wears her womanhood. Who knows how to flirt and have fun. Smart. Confident. … And obviously sexy and saucy and challenging.”
No mention how to find billionaire heiresses, which is Kerry’s real realtionship forte.
Which hot actresses float his boat:
“I think Charlize Theron is pretty extraordinary,” he gushes.
He loves those African women, doesn’t he?

I guess that was a lousy title. For the record, I do not think the Dean of the Washington Press Corps

B.) would plagiarize it.
I thought people would understand that- my bad.
