Why is everyone saying “keep calm and carry on” all the time now? Is it in Downton Abby or 50 Shades of Grey or something?
I know it’s from some English WWII poster. But why now? I googled it and I couldn’t find a simple answer.

I’m unable to form any coherent blog posts not because I’m actually working but because I’m feeling guilty about not working. But here’s some stuff I’ve noticed “trending”, as the kids say:
(1) Krugman picked up on the Republican “sugar high” meme. One of you said you’d heard a whole bunch of right-wing luminaries talk about “sugar highs”, but I can’t remember who. I’d like to flesh this one out.
(2) It’s not just robot sex aficionados who are losing their shit, it’s also faux economists best known for hosting game shows on Comedy Central (no, I admit that I don’t know for sure that Ben Stein is not also a robot sex aficionado). Other examples of wingnut apocalypse fantasies out there I should know about? I feel like it’s in the air. When Obama wins in November, will wingers just write apocalyptic blog posts or will they start blowing things up? My hope is that since they’re old and tired, it will be the former.
Any other trending memes on your radar?

And Sam Wang’s optimized high-leverage donation page at ActBlue (for those who are maxed out to Obama or subscribe to mistermix’s honeypot theory).

Gawker Media somehow got ahold of almost a thousand pages of financial gobbledygook relating to Bain Capital and Mitt’s investments. The problem is that they are just an ordinary bunch of remarkably resourceful reporters running a little online media site, so they need help figuring out what it all means. If you speak that language, go here and give ’em a hand.
***Update***
Of course, as Dan Rather might have said, you have to keep an eye out for fakes. A common ratf*ck tactic is to bury a sexy counterfeit in a mountain of boring but real documents. The crowdsourcing approach seems like a nice way around that risk – each interesting nugget will get pored over by dozens of reg’lar folk before any media personality will take a swing at it.

I saw some calls in Cole’s post for a snail mail address. I have a P.O. Box as it so happens:
People Organizing for Women’s Rights (POWR)
P.O. Box 480519
Los Angeles, CA 90048
This is going to be fun and perhaps fatal.
I can’t wait.

Is it just me, or does anyone else smell the flopsweat on the other side of the aisle? And I’m not just talking about the current Todd Akin fiasco, either. I’m talking about the utter lack of a positive message from the right. I’m talking about the complete failure of the Rmoney campaign to come up with a coherent talking point on the candidate’s taxes. I’m talking about the swiftboat operation that just sank. I’m talking about John Sununu melting down on Soledad O’Brien on CNN.
These are all great things to see. I have a lot of optimism for the upcoming election, and I think that Obama is in a good place, and the Senate looks a little more secure. I’m not as sanguine about the House, but I don’t think the Republicans are going to hold on to all their gains from 2010.
That said, we’re facing the biggest cash deficit an incumbent President has ever faced in US history, and an opposition party that has no hesitation with playing any card they can think of to win, regardless of the consequences for the country.
You know what to do.

Enough of John’s wankery about animals eating his girly-man food, let’s raise some more money for Metrosexual Black Abe Lincoln.
