Respite Open Thread: Maysie and Tux Update

My tolerance for stupidity has reached empty, so once again I’m tuning out. Except probably to hang out here for the debates.  For those of you who need a break, Sister Rail Gun provides us with the perfect antidote:

They weren’t able to get handoff photos, because as you can imagine, it was hectic.  But here they are settling in. More from Sister Rail Gun:

We got them both into their room. They checked it out and said, “Yep, that’s a litter box, now where’s the food?”

We have Maysie in her favorite spot, by the window overlooking the bird feeders.

Tux behind the ironing board.

Tux and Maysie in the scraps pile behind the ironing board.

Maysie after Tux gave up on the game of tug. They were each pulling on the dangler when Tux said, “Oooh, right, there’s food here!”, let go, and turned away.

Maysie in her new favorite sleeping spot.

Sister Rail Gun has promised more videos when available – you can click on the video and actually subscribe to be notified.

This is a true respite thread. I don’t care if it only has 2 comments two hours in, if anyone is feeling like I am, they need a break. So as best as I can do, here is your cuteness break for the morning.

Maysie and Big Tux Update: On Their Way!

cuddle of kitties

Just got some good news from AmyBlueKat:

We are now en route to Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism’s house where lots of love and attention await.

I am beyond grateful for the outpouring of support I have received here in just 28 hours since I first posted. Bill Proctor – this would not have happened without you. May your heart finally rest in peace.

More on how Bill Proctor led to this happy pairing before he left us, here. May he rest in peace.

I told her we would need lots of pictures of the exchange. I will post them when I get them. I just thought we could use some good news today.

Kitten Bleg: These Sweet Cuties Looking For Homes

cute kitties

Newest jackal AmyBlueKat has two little foundlings all healthy and ready for their new homes. She’s even willing to transport. Right now they are in the Dallas area.

I found Maysie and brother Big Tux living in the woods beside a busy street in Texas.

They have been spayed, neutered, fully vaccinated, and dewormed.

They have been living indoors and outdoors, and are comfortable around people, other cats, and dogs.

They are very loving!

I will gladly transport them anywhere a good home awaits!

She doesn’t say they need to go together, but I can vouch that two are twice as much fun, but not really twice as much work. And look, they won’t need more than kibble, few toys, a quick vet visit, a litter box, and a lap or two.

You know you need them! Contact AmyBlueKat at amybluekat – at – gmail – dot -com or send me a note and I’ll connect you.

And welcome AmyBlueKat, we look forward to having you join the raucous playroom we call Balloon-Juice.

Tuesday Morning Open Thread: Hurricane Dorian

Stay safe, everyone in Dorian’s path — hope those of you who’ve had to, or will have to, evacuate are able to check in when you get the chance.

For those of us watching and worrying from a distance:

And, because this is Balloon Juice…

She continued: “We may not get hit as hard as other islands and the saddest part is that after the hurricane leave the Bahamas, some islands will take a long time to recover…Each island has [an] abundance of homeless dogs, my heart is so broken for the ones without a place to hide.”

Phillips told ABC News she has spent 15 years rescuing homeless dogs and finding them homes in the United States. Her story has been widely circulated online, prompting an outpouring of support and financial donations to support her rescue efforts…

Respite Open Thread: Waffles and Hemingway Need a Home

A miniature horse is up for adoption in Pennsylvania – but if you want the horse, you have to adopt his best friend, too.

Waffles is a six-year-old miniature horse, and his best friend is a goose named Hemingway.

Waffles is described as being small, but with a huge personality. He loves the typical “horse things” like grass and carrots, but there is nothing he loves more than Hemingway.

Linda Reider with the Bucks County SPCA said Waffles and Hemingway are a package deal.

“If you want to adopt Waffles, you have to adopt Hemingway. And if you want to adopt Hemingway, you have to adopt Waffles,” Reider told WFMZ.

The friends go way, way back – they were both taken from the same farm, where “the conditions were not good,” as Reider described it.

Even when Waffles was sick, Hemingway wouldn’t leave his side.

“When we go to give medicines or injections [to Waffles], Hemingway would get in between us and say, ‘I’m sorry, that’s my buddy the horse, he doesn’t want a shot today,'” Reider told WFMZ.

If you are interested in adopting this adorable pair, please visit the Bucks County SPCA’s website here.

If you aren’t able to adopt Waffles and Hemingway or are looking for a pet of another kind, please consider adopting another animal from the Bucks County SPCA or from your local animal shelter.

I’m sure there is room in Cole’s backyard…I’ll chip in for transport.
