Looks like we could use this. I suppose the only suspense is, witnesses, yay yea or nay.
BTW, I caved, the ducks are in the house. I needed a good reason to bleach the bathroom from ceiling to floor anyway. Photos later.

New details about Trump-McCarthy shouting match show Trump refused to call off the rioters | @jamiegangel, @Kevinliptakcnn, @MichaelRWarren & @MarshallCohen https://t.co/w7TN6b6VMO
— State of the Union (@CNNSotu) February 12, 2021
In an expletive-laced phone call with House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy while the Capitol was under attack, then-President Donald Trump said the rioters cared more about the election results than McCarthy did.
“Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are,” Trump said, according to lawmakers who were briefed on the call afterward by McCarthy…
Trump’s comment set off what Republican lawmakers familiar with the call described as a shouting match between the two men. A furious McCarthy told the President the rioters were breaking into his office through the windows, and asked Trump, “Who the f–k do you think you are talking to?” according to a Republican lawmaker familiar with the call…
The Republican members of Congress said the exchange showed Trump had no intention of calling off the rioters even as lawmakers were pleading with him to intervene. Several said it amounted to a dereliction of his presidential duty.
“He is not a blameless observer, he was rooting for them,” a Republican member of Congress said. “On January 13, Kevin McCarthy said on the floor of the House that the President bears responsibility and he does.” …
“You have to look at what he did during the insurrection to confirm where his mind was at,” Herrera Beutler, one of 10 House Republicans who voted last month to impeach Trump, told CNN. “That line right there demonstrates to me that either he didn’t care, which is impeachable, because you cannot allow an attack on your soil, or he wanted it to happen and was OK with it, which makes me so angry.”
“We should never stand for that, for any reason, under any party flag,” she added, voicing her extreme frustration: “I’m trying really hard not to say the F-word.” …
I’ve been lukewarm on calling witnesses. The managers have made an incredible case & I’ve thought that GOP’s response would be bullshit distractions. I’ve considered Pence, but I’m not sure he’d say much that would be illuminating
But I now think they should call McCarthy

we knew about the call, and that mccarthy later called kushner saying he had talked to trump but he wouldn’t call off the mob, but this has more.
would be interested what time the call was, if mccarthy can get his phone records https://t.co/erP9MCFq2d— Laura Rozen (@lrozen) February 13, 2021
Pence's team does not agree with the Trump lawyer's assessment that Trump was concerned about Pence's safety. Trump didn't call him that day — or for five days after that. No one else on Trump's team called as Pence was evacuated to one room & another, with screaming mob nearby.

Trump absolutely knew who the fuck he was talking to. Here's proof. https://t.co/NbZLe8SxaK pic.twitter.com/DoPCxuCC1M

Lol CNN reporting that when McCarthy went to Mar a Lago to grovel to Trump – after voting to overturn the election for him – he asked Trump for his donor list and was rebuffed.

Here’s the usual CSPAN2 feed on YouTube:
I expect TV ratings will plummet since Trump clowns Awshucks McRamble and Thirsty Yellington are up, but I’m going to try to catch some of it as time permits. One of the clown lawyers told NBC they might wrap up in as little as three hours. How many times can you equate Sarah Huckabee Sanders being politely asked to leave a restaurant with a comped cheese plate and a mob scene at the U.S. Capitol Building that was reminiscent of the fall of Osgiliath? Viewers are about to find out.

Everyone had a role to play. Jamie Raskin was masterful and set the perfect tone, Ted Lieu was Ted Lieu (!), Joe Neguse (never heard of the guy before) was shockingly good, Joaquin Castro surprised the hell out of me (in a good way) and I was impressed by Madeleine Dean.
David Cicilline was good, but I haven’t gotten to his part today, so I don’t have much to say there.
So proud of our democratic bench.

Here’s the live stream on YouTube from CSPAN2:
House impeachment managers will wrap up their case today. The Post says they’ll focus on the consequences of the riot in today’s presentation.
As I mentioned in the morning thread, I’ll be interested to see if they put more emphasis on how Trump’s attempted coup disgraced the U.S. on the international stage. That’s a long-term consequence that might resonate with the types of elected officials and voters who love to smugly cite America as the shining beacon of democracy to the world.
From what I’ve been able to see via clips and live testimony when time permits, the House managers have done a terrific job so far. The trial is rigged because Trump’s co-conspirators are on the jury, but it still matters, IMO.
Open thread.

I like the placeholder image better today — the Capitol Building rather than Velveeta Voldemort’s ugly mug!
We’re in for more upsetting video as House managers lay out the case that Trump incited the rioters. But like Hillary Clinton said:
If Senate Republicans fail to convict Donald Trump, it won’t be because the facts were with him or his lawyers mounted a competent defense. It will be because the jury includes his co-conspirators.

pretty clear, we’re watching a meticulous recounting of facts be rebutted with incompetence and contempt because one political party is irredeemably corrupted. what would the alternative interpretation be. or was this one of those rhetorical type deals. https://t.co/RU2x0wynUR

Trump's lawyer just said that if Trump is convicted for doing what he didn't do, he'll do it again, and worse.

Not sure that pointing out that Trump has been doing various impeachment-worthy things throughout his four years in office is making the point you think you're making.

Yes, yes, impeach Jimmy Carter for the Iran hostage crisis, yes, make sure he doesn't try to run for president in 2024 at the age of 98.

I'm honestly impressed none of the senators have started laughing at this word salad.

Mitch McConnell just voted (again) that the this trial is unconstitutional, which is rich because he’s the one who stopped the trial from beginning while Trump was still president.

Trump team adviser candid on messy opening day for former president's impeachment team. Adviser said Trump could be in serious jeopardy if he finds himself charged in criminal court: “Trump is f*cked if anyone ever charges him. No one wants to work with him.”

Schoen just showed a video of, I’m pretty sure, 14 Senators & members of Congress talking about impeachment. The members shown were black, Latino, Palestinian, or Jewish. The only non-Hispanic White person who’s not Jewish was a woman.
