I submit this as a complement to TaMara’s Not Serious People thread.
Plaintiffs should not be able to hand-pick individual judges to overturn laws they dislike.@SenSchumer, @SenWhitehouse, and I are leading a bill to codify the Judicial Conference’s new policy to curtail judge shopping in our federal courts and assign major cases at random.

.
Judge Shopping (verb): manipulating the justice system by filing a lawsuit in a district where your preferred judge will likely hear the case and rule in your favor.
When right-wing interests cherry-pick judges, they cherry-pick your freedoms.
This practice has got to end. https://t.co/iBQQgkmpHc

Aitutaki has a string of small islands, motu, along the outer rim of the lagoon. We were able to visit a handful on a day trip. Plus we hopped in the water at a couple snorkel stops. The water was a bit cloudy at the first stop. The second stop was glorious. Several thriving coral heads to paddle around. One of the other passengers had a frame she snapped her iPhone into that allowed her to take photos underwater. Very cool, albeit, for me trying to take photos of darting fish would be too distracting.

Before you get too attached to me,” the woman said, “I must tell you my horrible secret: I can travel through time.”
“Forward?” her husband asked. “Everyone can.”
“No,” she said. “Well, not just forward. I thought it was just forward for a long time. That would make sense. But after 2022, it stopped being just forward.”
“How does it work?” he asked.
“It’s a curse,” she said.
“The Supreme Court,” she said. “The judiciary, generally. One afternoon in June of 2022, I discovered it was actually 1973. At best.”

The calm before the storm.
That’s how the last couple of days have felt like to me. In spite of the Arizona ruling. In spite of Donnie’s repeated attempt to halt the trial that starts on Monday.
I am reminded of the few days before US troops marched into Baghdad. I thought it was a huge mistake, and I felt a terrible sense of dread. That’s how I feel about Ukraine with every day that passes without a bill to support Ukraine. Now, as then, I had no control over what happened; I could only wait to see how it would play out.
Maybe it’s just me. Is anyone else feeling that way?
Trump knows how serious the NY criminal election influence case is

This is a good summary from Joyce Vance.
“Trump looks increasingly desperate to keep this case from going to trial…but what’s seems clear over the last few days is that the courts are on to what’s going on.”

Aitutaki is the second most populated island of archipelago, with ~1500 residents, situated within a triangular-shaped lagoon. We stayed at a small resort within the elbow of the main island facing the inner lagoon rather than the Pacific Ocean. In contrast to Rarotonga, Aitutaki has no dogs. Not one. But lots of chickens. I asked the owner of our resort how people distinguish one’s chickens from another’s. She laughed to say they’re all wild

The first stop was Moturakau, nicknamed ’Survivor Island’ owing to its heyday as one of the locations for the 2006 Survivor TV series. A bit of the set still remains. [See previous OTR post for a map.]
