Dean is right– this is the funniest thing I have read in a long while.
John Cole started Balloon Juice early in 2002. Those who have followed along know that this has been quite the journey.
It’s Official- You Hate Me
After examining the donations that have been ‘flowing’ in, I have determined I have no career in blogging. Rats.
*** Update ***
The Balloon Juice Laptop fiasco fund is now up to 5 donations for a total of $57.25 and one (1) offer to pay me not to blog ever again. Let’s keep those donations rolling!
Laptop Fund Update
Sadly, it appears that donations to the laptop fund have slowed down from the recent burst, and we are still stuck at 1 donor having donated a total of $0.25.
Should you be cash poor and still wish to donate to this worthy cause, yet are not a member of paypal, you can proceed to the paypal page, and simply by signing up a new account and using the email address [email protected] as your referrer, and you will have then given me a $5.00 bonus for signing up a new paypal member.
Never mind- they ended that on 26 September 2003. Looks like you will have to give the old fashioned way. C’mon faithful readers- I know you have it in you!
*** UPDATE ***
We now have two donations for a total of $30.25, giving us an average donation of $15.00. Couple more of those and we are home free! The second donation’s size threw the bank of phone operators for a serious loop. THanks!
Laptop Fund Update
The donations are pouring in for the Balloon Juice Laptop Fund. I just got this confirmation email:
Dear John Cole,
This email confirms that you have received a Payment for $0.25 USD from
Dxxxx Mxxxxx ([email protected])View the details of this transaction online at:
https://www.paypal.com/us/vst/id=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
That means that 1 donor has now contributed $.25. Who said Republicans don’t believe in charity cases? As a good Republican, I can confirm that this is indeed going to my favorite charity.
Only 4,000 more donations of this amount and I will have a laptop so that I can work from the comfort of my couch, rather than having to sit at the computer desk using this beat up old computer (which, much like Atrios, has had cat induced wine spills into the keyboard). Hell- I might even be able to blog from the road with a laptop.
Thanks to our first donor. Remember, if you want to donate, you can use paypal or Amazon, and since it is obvious the complexities of Paypal are kicking your asses, I have even updated my Amazon wishlist with several brand new laptops of my choosing that you can purchase them for me with several easy clicks! Just to save you the trouble!
Feel free to link to this fund drive on your own website- help me spread the word for this needy charity!
Deep Thoughts From Michael Moore
MOORE: I’d like to ask the question whether September 11 was a terrorist attack, or was it a military attack? We call it a terrorist attack. We keep calling it a terrorist attack.
But it sure has the markings of a military attack. And I’d like to know whose military was involved in this precision, perfectly planned operation. I’m sorry, but my common sense has never allowed me to believe since that day that you can learn how to fly a plane at 500 miles per hour. And you know, when you go up 500 miles an hour, if you’re off by this much, you’re in the Potomac. You don’t hit a five-store building like that.
You don’t learn how to do that at some rinky-dink flight training school in Florida on a little video game with PacMan buttons. I’m sorry. I just don’t buy that.
I don’t believe that Moore is a serious voice of the left. Are they for real?
(For the record- read the transcript- Moore is not suggesting it was our military that did this.)
And remember, don’t forget to contribute to the Balloon Juice Laptop fund! Currently no one has contributed a total of $ 0.00. Damn tightwad Republicans.
Laptop Fund
We are twenty minutes into the Balloon Juice laptop fund, and already we are up to $ 0.00. Congrats Balloon Juice readers! I knew you wouldn’t let me down.
Looks like my new laptop is going to be just like my old laptop.
The New Liberal TV
Those of you waiting for the new Gore-backed “liberal” tv (after partaking of two hours of the West Wing marathon on Bravo, watching CNN for a little bit, then catching the ABC nightly news, it makes me giggle just to type “liberal” tv) will have to wait a little longer, because, guess what- liberalism doesn’t sell:
— Former vice president Al Gore and a group of investors have plans to launch an all-news channel, but it won’t be a liberal alternative to Fox News. Instead, it will be aimed at the under-25 crowd.
“Liberal TV is dead on arrival,” said an insider advising Mr. Gore and his team. “You just can’t do it.”
DOA. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Some observers feel that despite the change in tack, a network led by Mr. Gore will not be able to erect a firewall thick enough to insulate it from his Democratic Party affiliation.
“If there is any transparency to Gore, then it will be identified as a partisan operation, which will alienate advertisers,” said the sales executive.
“The problem with being associated as liberal is that they wouldn’t be going in a direction that advertisers are really interested in,” said Paul Rittenberg, senior VP-advertising and market research, Fox News. “We don’t get business for being conservative, we get business because the ratings are good and we believe that we’re fair. If you go out and say that you are a liberal network, you are cutting your potential audience and certainly your potential advertising pool, right off the bat. “
I bet GM is just chomping at the bit to fund a new half hour talk show by Michael Moore.
