CNN called KY for Yertle. Any other results to share? Keep the faith, comrades! Good things can happen, such as the ouster of Rick Scott.
Florida woman, still rocking a punk rock ethos in the 2020s, which is kind of sad. Betty Cracker has been a Balloon Juice writer since 2012.
Where Did You Vote? (Election Day Open Thread)
Valued commenter Shortstop had an interesting idea in an earlier thread:
Cole and other FPers, know what would be a fun topic for an election day thread (this day or another election day)? Descriptions of where people voted.
Years ago, the NYT (I think) did a photo essay of Americans voting and I was really struck by the range of environments in which people exercise their franchise. There were people voting in rural one-car garages, airplane hangars, hardware stores, all kinds of places besides the more usual schools and churches. It was quite moving seeing this basic, communal action being taken in so many disparate locales. I felt all e pluribus unum, though I know we aren’t!
Today I voted in the lobby of a Chicago high-rise: ours. I am so in love with my new ability to go downstairs in my pajamas (I didn’t, but I could have) and cast my vote, thus totally avoiding the aggressive electioneers just outside.
So what was your polling place like? Was it crowded?
The mister and I were among the first 20 or so to vote in our little town — we were outside the door when it opened at 7 AM. Our polling place is a small church, a satellite operation of a larger Southern Baptist megachurch.
The only time I darken the door of any church is when I visit this one to vote. Our fellow early-bird voters were all middle-aged or elderly white folks, not surprising given the demographics of the town.
Please feel free to share other election news or talk about whatever.

The Day Before Tuesday: Open Thread
I’ve tried to avoid marinating in political punditry as best I can over the last few days…longer, really. Who wants to watch ambulatory genital warts like Ron Fournier and Byron York fabricate elephant-themed window treatments for Harry Reid’s office? Nope.
There are trend pieces on how President Obama needs to play ball with Republicans (where “ball” = “unpinned grenade” to anyone who has paid even the most cursory attention for the past six years). But I haven’t seen much on why non-Republicans are even within striking distance in deep-red states like Kansas and Georgia. Why is that?
Here in Florida, we appear to have a better-than-even chance of ousting Governor Voldemort. Of course, it’s disgraceful that it’s even close, but here we are. My hope is that the little electric fan was the seventh Horcrux. Should Crist prevail, there will be great rejoicing at the Cracker Compound.
Among his many hideous offenses as a human being, governor and fashion icon, Governor Scott wears cowboy boots emblazoned with the official Seal of the Great State of Florida. No, really — I’m not making this up:
The better to stomp our rights with, my dears. It makes me happy to picture him watching the returns Tuesday night and then ripping the boots off and flinging them into the back of his 1,500 square-foot closet in a snit when he realizes the voters have used their own boots to kick his worthless, thieving ass to the curb. Please make it so, FSM.
Please feel free to talk about whatever.
Chores, Chili & College Football Preview
Temperatures have plunged into the 60s here in Central Florida, and it’s also extraordinarily windy. It’s a good day to make chili and catch up on chores. The mister has undertaken the chili mission and is off purchasing the ingredients.
I’m procrastinating because I can no longer in good conscience avoid two odious items on my to-do list: 1) cleaning out the office / spare room where we’ve stashed odd items since embarking on our slow-mo home renovation project nearly two years ago, and 2) washing the windows inside and out.
It must be done. We’ll have guests over the holidays, so it has to be possible for people to enter the spare room, plus I will need it as an office when the kiddo is out of school on holidays and making too much noise for me to work at the dining room table, as is my custom. It would also be nice to be able to view the outdoors without a filter of grime.
Oh, there’s football on too, later. FSM willing, this will be the last time valued commenter Raven will get to enjoy watching Georgia alum Coach Will Muschamp lead the Gators to another loss to the Dawgs in Jacksonville. A miracle could occur, of course. But I have a feeling I’ll enjoy cleaning out the spare room and washing the windows more than I’ll enjoy the game.
Auburn and Old Miss should be a good game after the Florida-Georgia debacle ends. Also looking forward to Tennessee vs. South Carolina – Go ‘Cocks! Any other games of note you’re looking forward to, or predictions?
What else are y’all up to this Saturday?

Kinda rooting for KC but won’t be heartbroken if SF wins. Feel free to discuss whatever!
Wednesday Afternoon Open Thread
This oldie but goody goes out to valued commenter Dance Around in Your Bones, who reminded me of it the other day:
GoPro update: I may have DaisyCam footage this evening to share. But maybe not.
Random question: I need a new roof. I’ve arranged three estimates. Is that enough? I don’t know anyone who has had a roof put on who is happy with the price or the construction process. We’re preparing to be hosed.
