The first thing I thought when I looked at DougJ’s post about these morons organizing a boycott of GM and Chrysler was that they just spent the last three weeks incorrectly screaming that Republican Chrysler dealerships were unfairly targeted by the Obama administration for closure, so now they want to boycott them and finish off the rest of them- “Republican dealerships were unfairly targeted! Let’s kill the survivors!”
Does this mean we will get months of amateur hour statistical analysis proving that wingnut boycotts disparately impacted McCain voters? Or is Hillary still to blame?
These idiots can’t even keep an internally consistent wingnut meme going for a couple weeks. No wonder the rest of the country has no clue what the hell they are talking about.

I’m as curious as the next guy to see how “Boycott American Goods!” will play in the heartland.
I’m guessing any savvy Dem worth his salt (read: not many) can make that into a blistering commercial.

clearly, the physics of the event horizon are slightly off. It’s a whole new geometry and continuum here over and above our new language.

It’s sort of like reading something in Elizabethan English at this point, you need footnotes or Cliff’s Notes or something.
Get thee to a nuttery, Rush.

So, they want to boycott American Cars?
Um…
Yeah, I don’t know what to say about that level of stupidity.
Morbo
You know, I seem to think this leaves them a perfect target for some good old fashioned ratfucking. Drop some random conspiracy theories in RedState comment threads and see if any of them catch flame in the rightblogosphere and make their way up to Rush or the Beckster. Revealing that you made the whole thing up would be a killer call in to someone’s radio show I think. And a good way to get booted off the phole line.
SpotWeld
@John Cole
They aren’t trying to keep a consistant meme. They are trying to keep a consistant state of panic/anger.
There hasn’t been a new 9/11 so they are hopping from lesser “emergency” to lesser “emergency” in hopes of keeping everyone rushing around with a head full of barely directed vitriol.
What else do they have going for them. Fiscal responcibility?
TenguPhule
If we can’t have money, NOBODY ELSE CAN EITHER!!!
There is only one solution to that mentality. And its final.

@Morbo:
As easy as it would be to do this (and it would be nearly trivially easy – look at how many birthers there seem to be out there demanding to see Obama’s birth certificate) it would probably be a bad idea. Because people believe the weird shit and then refuse to believe the debunking. That’s actually how the wingnutosphere operates right now – make outrageous claims that have a hint of truth to them and when they get debunked, sniff and say “well, if there weren’t SOMETHING true about the claims then they wouldn’t have had to debunk them, would they? Clearly we’ve touched a nerve.”
raff
Cold comfort to GM workers, dealerships & their employees I’m sure. But not to worry, Rush says — if you lose your job or your business, it’s all for a higher purpose (but I’m rich, so I’ll be ok).
Now, I fully expect this boycott to be as effective as past republican boycotts (i.e. barely if at all), but still, if I was working at GM or a car dealership (& no doubt already fearing for my job), I’d be thinking: “Hey! Stfu you fat gasbag… I got a wife & kids to feed!”
Bill E Pilgrim
@Morbo:
They wouldn’t care. They wouldn’t believe you even when you told them you had invented it. Even if you had evidence. They might well latch onto it but then it would become gospel.
I was in England when the two guys came out and admitted that they had done most of the crop circles. They described exactly how, the technique, with boards and ropes attached, and how they came up with the designs, had been doing it for years, described specific sites, the whole thing.
Crop circle devotees were having none of it. Over and over people came out saying “Listen there’s no WAY two blokes with boards on their feet made these! It’s aliens, you see…..” and on it went, it didn’t seem to change anything, among the believers.
They’re nuts, is the point.
Not that it wouldn’t be fun of course.
joes527
@Morbo:
Why do you assume that truth would have any impact at all?
I’m fairly certain that a good percentage of what goes around in the wingnuttosphere startes out as an attempt to spoof the wingnuts.
Makes. No. Difference.

OK, so when will one of them notice that coal fired energy involves a heavy dose of union labor?
Or that European cars are made by union labor?
Or lets say they’re successful in the Supreme Court, and that in a string of 5-4 votes from the Federalist society contingent, they manage to kill Chrysler and GM. What will Sen Bob Corker (R-Japan), Sen Dick Shelby (R-Japan/Korea/Germany) and Sen Jim DeMint (R-Germany) going to do when they’re advised that new economic realities mandate that wages will be dropped to about 8 dollars an hour……
MikeJ
The theory that this is already happening would explain a lot. At the very least, spreading the idea that this already happening will make them trust each other even less.

@NonyNony: it would probably be a bad idea. Because people believe the weird shit and then refuse to believe the debunking.

Oh, they’re pretty consistent about one thing. They’ll scream and yell and put down any Dem. policy that comes into their line of vision, even if it helps the country.
According to their current, “rule or ruin”, scorched earth ideology, whether it’s good or bad is only in the eye of the beholder.

I’ve been less-than-impressed by the relative looniness of some of the recent things posted here, but this is way over the line. The cognitive dissonance is roughly on the worms-bursting-out-of-your-skull level, and the only thing that makes this not quite an actual wingularity warning is that Rush has the presence of mind to try to explain himself to his targets… I mean, victims… I mean, collateral damage… argh! You know what I mean. If this were a true wingularity, the assumption would be all those GM employees are filthy democrats and thus don’t count.
(Come to think of it, how much did Obama win Michigan by?)
Really close, though: 0.95 wingularity masses
Duck and cover.
joe from Lowell
This might be truer than you think, Trinity. I wonder if we see people like Richard Shelby and Haley Barbour – that is, GOP politicians with foreign automobile assembly plants in their districts – jumping on board with this. Remember when they tried to close down Detroit last fall?
Michael
Sadly, you’re probably right. As long as their constituencies get all the cheap NASCAR collectibles they can find and get to buy guns, they’ll be happier than pigs in slop over their screwings.

Absolutely. I’d like to see at least one Dem stand up and point out how much of a subsidy those foreign makers got from anti-Union (in more ways than one) states so they can compete with American car makers, all while they whimper about aid to manufacturers.
Let Corker stammer his way out of that one.

The insanity is largely being experienced outside of the MSM coverage, unfortunately. The MSM is not cataloguing teh crazy as comprehensively as bloggistan — so the extremity of it all is escaping the average citizen for the most part.
Are there no sane, intelligent Republicans remaining? Really — wtf — I say that I am not surprised, but I am…how long can this go on?

Rush is on to something
Yes, anything run by Barack Obama must be boycotted! Boycott the libraries, boycott the post office, boycott the highway system! Boycott all services run by Barack Obama! Boycott the schools, mass transit, boycott safe food! (from now on, we will only eat food imported – directly – from countries that have no formal food safety oversight!
This will be fun!
raff
Perhaps, but I think it’s just the standard republican MO — just keep throwing any crazy bullshit out there until something sticks.
If, after a week or two of hammering a meme & it hasn’t ‘stuck’, then they’ll just move on to another batshit-crazy accusation. It doesn’t matter if the new meme contradicts their last meme — conservatives are remarkably adept at ignoring their own hypocrisy/inconsistency.
Death By Mosquito Truck
I think what we’ve had here is a little social concern in Washington. The media has been very desirous that a black president do well. There is a little hope invested in Obama, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of the country that he didn’t deserve.

Brilliant.
Okay, at first glance it just seems like more of the everyday nuttian stupid. Looking a little deeper, there may be some hidden high-level wingnut analysis and strategeric thinking at play.
Obviously, Obama has targeted the true red Republican dealerships. That means the remaining dealers, while most supportive of the R-party, must be RINOs. Boycott them! Purity time, bitches. They did the math, they can’t be fooled again.

I’m guessing most of the contractors you see in GMC trucks with the Semper Fi and We Support Our Troops decals are Republicans, but I doubt many are going to go for this shit. I’m guessing a lot of them might be looking at another GM truck for patriotic reasons, and they are going to see the advocates of this boycott for the sick loons they are.

The Mel Brooks school of comedy, applied to politics?

This may have already been pointed out on the previous thread, but I’m too lazy to read it. As the biggest investor in GM, like it or not, a boycott would only hurt US taxpayers by driving down the stock price and prolonging the government’s role. If Rush actually believed conservative principles, he would be telling all of his listeners to buy only GM vehicles so we would get more of our invested money back and get the hell out of GM. Advocating for the boycott is like advocating we all go out and flush 200-some dollars down the toilet so Barack Obama will look like a poopy-head.
Of course the only thing we can count on wingnuts to be consistent about is their hideous misunderstandings of economics and public policy, but this one really takes the cake.

The NFL is socialist. That’s right, my friends. The NFL is socialist. Sport commissar Pierre Rozelle from the University of San Francisco imposed revenue sharing on this all-American man’s game in the 1960s. My friends, do you want your revenue — your hard-earned dollar — shared with any Elton, Keyshawn or Tyrone that comes along, just because he plays football? I say no. I say, HELL NO. Am I right?
The solution, my friends? BOYCOTT IT. That’s right, my friends: boycott the NFL.

Let’s see now – Rush says to boycott GM while Hannity pitches for Cadillac on the next show. Wingnut wars anyone?

I’m guessing they’ll be buying Fords, and the government take over of GM will be part of the reason.

Forget GM.
Rush should be encouraging his listeners to boycott the military and stop reporting for duty.

Comrade Kevin (responding to “just keep throwing any crazy bullshit out there until something sticks.”) said:
No; though Brooks’ jokes did come fast and furious, and some of them missed, he generally had a plot and a sense of comedic timing. The current thrashing from the Republicans is more like Friedberg and Seltzer’s kitchen-sink method, and the results are as incoherent.
