Here are a couple of Badger and Pete action tweets. (The WP interface sucks for video, so tweets it is.):

Someone’s trying to give Badger a run for his money. ?

Soooo cute!!!
?BillinGlendaleCA
@mrmoshpotato: Or trying to badger Badger.
TaMara (HFG)
Oh, no, I think that just broke the internet with its cuteness. Welcome, Pete.

Oh Lordy. Cute doggie is cute.
Trouble ahead, trouble behind, and you know that notion, just crossed my mind.

Looks like Pete knows who’s the boss.
Every dog needs a buddy and I bet these guys end up great friends.
Little upside-down Pete is beyond adorable.

A wee little Badgerlet!
Jim, Foolish Literalist
Pete and Badger…. is Pete gonna stay skinny?
WaterGirl
@raven: I don’t see Boxer at all. I think they made that up!
WaterGirl
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Stay skinny? Did you see the same pudgy little guy running across the floor that I saw?
Betty Cracker
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: He’s already a chonk, so he’s not a good fit for the BB naming convention. :)
Betty
Baby Pete! Just too cute!

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
BC snuck it in as a comment (with picture IIRC) the other day.

Pete deserves this tweet. Or maybe Bandit does. Anyway, Pete is adorbs, and Bandit seems to be handling him with aplomb.

Pete Poochigieg?

@Baud: I think my heart grew three sizes just watching that, and I need to go lie down.

Adorable! Hooray! Puppies make all right with the world…
debbie
Will Pete’s coat darken like Badger’s or stay grayish? I’m already trying to figure out how to tell them apart when Pete’s older.
Betty Cracker
@KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager)): OMG, that’s hilarious!
debbie
@raven:
No pittie?
opiejeanne
@NotMax: lol. A friend got a French bulldog puppy a few years ago and was considering naming it Gucci.
I suggested Pucci, but she just laughed.
Betty Cracker
@debbie: We think he’ll stay gray. He’s not full Boston — he’s part Frenchy. (Though I’ve heard there are gray BTs too — never seen one.)

@Betty Cracker: he’s adorable!
Gah! The upside down photo! I need some insulin, stat!

OMG. The toe beans are to die for.

@Betty Cracker:
Good. Cute video, but I think Pete walks in, sees Badger, thinks “Whatever,” and proceeds on his way. Badger may end up not being the Boss Man he thinks he is.
WaterGirl
@Betty Cracker: What is the BB naming convention? I am drawing a blank.
debbie
@WaterGirl:
That’s what I get for just reading the boxed quote.
Dorothy A. Winsor
The internet needs more dog pictures. Dogs are good
zhena gogolia
@Betty Cracker: Interesting that he’s part Frenchy I can see it
WaterGirl
@debbie: I saw that differently. I thought Pete was rolling along, the Badger gives him a look and then Pete turns his head away like he’s a tiny bit intimidated by the big dog.

Pete is soooo cute! But so is his big brother. It feels like everyone is getting a new furry friend. I need to get a companion for my remaining cat, Harley, since his big brother Louie passed away a couple of months ago. When I’m home he is happy enough being an only cat, but when I leave for work I get big lonely kitty eyes.
KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager))
@Betty Cracker: I’m so glad you appreciate it. I’ve been cackling over it between cookie batches all day and my family thinks I’m nuts. Well, they thought that before, but…

?BillinGlendaleCA
@WaterGirl: I’m really worried about it here in Glendale, we have a low vax rate for Southern CA(about 68%) and about 10% of the orange apron’s customers refuse to mask. It’s really quite scarry. I had one unmasked older lady asking me a question and she kept trying to get closer to me, I’d back up and she’d move forward. I really can’t say anything either.
prostratedragon
My my, even cuter in motion.

#TeamPete
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Baud: I bought some on Sunday, I’ll probably use one today.
ETA: A face shield won’t work well with what I do. I do lots of moving, putting on my reading glasses…just don’t think it would work
ETA2: I mean a lot of moving around, I walk between 25k and 35k a day. I’ve lost over 30 lbs since I started the orange apron gig. My neighbor asked if I was ok, in that I’d lost so much weight.
Jerzy Russian
What is Pete’s full name? Also does he have any honorifics, like “The Right Reverend”, in front of his name?
Baud
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Oh wow. That’s a good amount of weight loss. And you hike!
The N95 plus being up to date on the vax should help a lot.
KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager))
@?BillinGlendaleCA: I don’t know your situation, but it sounds like a counter-type ordering set-up? When things really started hitting the fan here (early spring 2020) folks at the ice cream store my son manages just couldn’t get it through their heads to stay back from the ordering stations they’d set up. He found that simply putting a table in front of the order station solved the problem. Oh, occasionally a customer would push the table out of the way to get closer, but he would just say, “I’m exposed to a lot of people all day; are you sure you want to do that?” That was almost always all it took.
Anyway, I hear every day how nerve-wracking and annoying thoughtless customers are. I feel your anxiety, believe me.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@HumboldtBlue:
Probably the first thing they’d say is “why are the shitstain fascist using us as they’re symbol?”.

zhena gogolia
@KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager)): sounds like a mega hardware type store so no counters
zhena gogolia
@?BillinGlendaleCA: they’re all walking around without masks but it’s Biden’s fault for not sending them tests
?BillinGlendaleCA
@KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager)): I don’t work at the counter, I’m what they call a “delivery associate'(it sounds better than a gopher). I go out into the store and pick up items that folk have ordered for either curbside or service desk pickup or to have delivered to their home. I get stopped by customers quite often doing this in the aisles, that’s were the plague rat, excuse me I mean customer, interaction happens.
dmsilev
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Just down the road, so to speak, here in Pasadena we have a pretty high vaccination rate (almost 90% of total population with at least one dose, about 84% two or more), and yet our case rate has doubled in less than a week.
On campus, just got an email saying five cases in the last day, which is bonkers high considering that just about all of the undergrads have left for winter break already, along with a lot of grad students and staff. We’re still planning, or perhaps hoping would be a better word, on in-person instruction in January. The contingency planning for going back to remote teaching is underway though.

@zhena gogolia: We’ve pretty much had a countywide mask mandate for the duration(I think there was about a month in the summer where we didn’t), we also have a statewide mask mandate, they ignore it. We had two smug looking maskless guys walking down one of the main aisles and after they were out of earshot, one of the other workers said “who do they think they are”, I said “they think they’re invincible”.

@debbie: Pit bull is a generic term that encompasses several breeds including American Staffordshire Terrier, so, yeah, pittie.
debbie
@cope:
Thanks. When people started renaming their pet’s breed to get around restrictions, I lost track of what the actual name was.
Jay
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
why can’t you say something. Policy at the Orange here is wear a mask or “special accommodation”, which is order online and p/u in lot.
When I run into a maskhole, I give them a couple nudges towards the free masks, then ignore them if they don’t take the hint, hand them off to a Manager via the link.
A bunch of staff, like “order fulfillment associates”, TR etc don’t even wear the Orange anymore, because we would never get to do our jobs.
KayInMD (formerly Kay (not the front-pager))
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Aack! Is there a cart or something you can wheel around with you to swing strategically between you and Typhoid Martin? At least put a tiny space in there?

I’ve probably just lost a good friend. He forwarded some link to an article, the headline of which was highlighting Biden’s “dead agenda.” Out of courtesy I started reading the piece, got to a reference to “Democrats in disarray” (in so many words) in the second paragraph, and lost it. I think I was logical and reasonable in my response, but perhaps it came across as an unhinged rant. I guess I’ll find out soon enough.

the breed restrictions in most places, lumped as many as 14 different breeds into the “pit bull bans”, along with a bunch of physical characteristics, ( phrenology like) that also caught up any mastiff/rottie/boxer cross .

@cope:
The American Pit Bull Terrier originated in the British Isles and descends from the Mastiff-type dogs introduced to England in antiquity. The breed was brought over to the United States by English immigrants in the 1800s, and quickly became one of the most popular and widespread breeds there.
FUN FACT
One of the most famous American Pit Bull Terriers is Pal, the dog who played the beloved Petey in The Little Rascals.

@zhena gogolia:
I’m on an I phone. When I hit the bottom right corner of the screen, a square box pops up, which when pressed, shows all the multiple screens I have up in window box fashion.
I usually have 2 to 10 screens up at any one time, BJ, CBC, You tube, twitter.
When someone posts a tweet or link, pressing on the link and holding it, gives the option of “opening in a new screen”,
If by accident I wind up “jumping” to the link or tweet, I hit the “back arrow” < to go back.

Pete is illegally adorable. I look forward to The Further Adventures of Pete and Badger.
@?BillinGlendaleCA: A better mask couldn’t hurt and might help, But unless everyone can stay away from people nonstop until February at least – which is near impossible, especially working a “customer service” job like yours – I think we’re all going to catch this fucker.
If you’re fully vaxxed and boosted, you might improve the odds a bit more by taking zinc and extra Vitamin D if you feel anything like symptoms at all.
How is Omicron more transmissible than Delta, FFS? Does it float in the air longer, stay virulent longer? Shit.
Mdub
Love the toe beans!!!

It may be too late in the thread, but I thought I would share that I also got a Christmas puppy (on the breeder’s waiting list, but their current litter had TEN puppies so – oops, i have @ Christmas puppy!) Tango, 9 weeks old, black standard poodle. The successor to my brown standard poodle, Charley, who died in October 2020.

@CaseyL: I think it packs a greater viral load.
It’s probably only about 10% of the customers that don’t mask, but that can be enough to spread it around. One guy walked into the store with his mask on and took it off once in the store…asshole.
I’m fully vaxed and boosted(J&J+Moderna).
Jay
@CaseyL:
apparently, bronchial tubes, greater aerosol spread, 12-24 hours of lung spraying before the onset of symptoms, if any show up.

@?BillinGlendaleCA:
are you including the half assed mask semi wearers in that 10%?

I was at Worldcon last weekend, and there have been three reports of positive tests from people who were there, so I just got back from waiting two hours in line for a COVID test at a local community center (Northern Virginia.) I wasn’t expecting to to be quite that long, but I brought my Kindle, so that was okay. I should have realized the line would be outdoors and dressed warmer, though.
I wanted to get a proper test before visiting my parents in Christmas, so it was worth the wait.

@?BillinGlendaleCA: You’re lucky. We’re way below 68% in my part of South PA and at the local orange apron store 90% don’t have a mask. It’s like everyone around here figured COVID was over and that’s what they’re acting like.
Odie Hugh Manatee
Congrats on the adorable pup! It looks like Badger gets to have a roomie to boss around…lol! Have fun with puppyhood!
We are in to Day Two of a surprise addition to our household and there has been face to face hissing with the new kitten. So far Stewie and Morty are being nice to Chuckie, who also happens to be Morty’s nephew. Morty’s sis, Shelby had three kittens on August 16th and we were able to pick one to add to our home. We named him Archie and were excited to have him come home in early October. Unfortunately about a week before he was to come to his new home he was killed in a couch/kid incident that I really did not want to know the details of. We thought that was the end of it.
Two days ago Shelby’s owner (Morty’s sis) called us and asked if we wanted one of the kittens. It seems that the 15 year old girl who got our ‘new’ kitty thinks that he meows too much and wants to find a new home for him. We picked him up two nights ago and our son named him Chuckie because he’s orange and of course, Chuckie Finster. He even came with a runny nose! And a weeping eye, runny poop, fleas… you get it. It’s apparent why he was meowing all of the time, poor guy.
We put him on a good food for kittens (Blue Buffalo), which he pigged out on. I gave him a dose of Revolution for the fleas and they spent yesterday dying and falling off of him. He was going gonzo scratching and they were falling off of him like flaming rats abandoning a burning ship. His poop has firmed up just with the good food and it looks like he is worm free (whew!). Today he’s been ripping around all over the place with nary a worry and oblivious to two pissed off adult cats he now lives with. The face to face with Stewie was something I could have recorded. Stewie was on the steps hissing up at a Chuckie kitty who was descending to a nose to nose greeting. One was hissing and the other was loudly purring. I carefully separated them and praised/treats Stewie for not killing his new roomie.
Morty just had a horrible day at the vet’s office and he’s napping off his shot. All good news but still horrible for the poor guy. He’s a favorite there since he’s a Siamese Scottish Fold and cute to no end, but the attention still scares him.
Back to cat adventures. Enjoy your new puppy adventures, Betty! :)
CaseyL
@Jay: It’s Giant Corporation’s fault that people who are supposed to be focused on carrying orders for pick up are always intercepted and asked for help from customers. There just aren’t enough ACTUAL floor service reps, so we who are wandering around lost home in on anyone wearing the orange.
Can’t tell you how often I’ve been in HD and haven’t seen a single CSR anywhere… or have seen exactly one (1) CSR, surrounded by people like vultures waiting for a deer to die.

@CaseyL: Omicron is mostly upper respiratory tract and produces a lot more virus (70 times more – don’t quote me) so breathing, coughing, and sneezing pump a lot of virus into the air.

@frosty:
Same here. 50% fully vaxxed and maybe 10% masking. I hate these people.
What’s been infuriating is that my campus is vastly safer than the county around us (we are pretty much centrally located). Students are hovering around 90% vaxxed, faculty is at 86% and staff at 83% (the Union staff is pulling that number down a bit). But everyone is fully masked indoors. An island of sanity amidst the crazies.
