According to the folks at Lawfare, the government won a key early ruling concerning a legal issue affecting hundreds of Jan. 6 Capitol Riot prosecutions. That was on December 10.
Many of the defendants in cases related to the insurrection on Jan 6 have been charged with corruptly obstructing an official proceeding, which is a felony. That charge has been challenged by some of the insurrectionist attorneys attorneys for the insurrectionists, and the ruling that came down on Friday, allowing that charge to stand.
Thank god for small favors, as we used to say.
Government Wins Key Ruling on Issue Affecting Hundreds of Capitol Riot Cases (Lawfare)
We should celebrate all our victories, right?
I’ve been swamped with work lately, so swamped that I missed that public hearing last night. If anyone has a good link, I would be grateful if you would throw it in the comments.

JeffreyW, if you are reading this, someone else won the coveted “I order the calendar from the previous year by mistake” award. I assured her that she was in good company. One person a year, could be worse, I guess

@Dorothy A. Winsor: Yippee!!!

@Dorothy A. Winsor: Good!! I feel exhausted when it comes to the Quest to Hold Trump Accountable. I want to see him frog matched to jail where he belongs.

@Dorothy A. Winsor:
Everything is going to be appealed to the Supreme Court. He’ll probably end up appealing the UN if that was possible.
japa21
@Patricia Kayden: Let’s assume, just for a moment, that we are living in an alternate reality, and Pelosi told everybody not to put up much resistance to the traitors. I assume Hannity thinks that she also duped them into attacking and trying to capture and/or kill legislators, deface the Capitol, and all that other stuff. Therefore the traitors were really innocent victims themselves.
Sounds like the old rapist defense. Your honor, I had to rape her, she wore a dress so short I could see her ankles so obviously she wanted me to.

@WaterGirl:
I had managed to suppress that memory but I expect I will not long remember your reminder so you can sleep secure, if not tonight, then tomorrow night for sure.

@WaterGirl: I just received my two calendars — for 2021 — and they are beautiful. WaterGirl, you did a great job!

@Patricia Kayden:
I impatiently await Nancy SMASH’s response.

And better yet dismissed by a Trump-appointed judge too, which will send Trump right up the wall raving about disloyalty.

@WaterGirl: OT- I’ve attempted to send you a Christmas photo from my childhood. I couldn’t find where to send it, so it’s in the On the Road submissions. The photo is from 1951 (I think). Sorry I had to do it this way.

@Patricia Kayden: I’m all for the DoJ nailing Hannity to the wall.
ETA – not sure on what, but it would be nice to see.

Which public hearing would this be?
Are you looking for the whole thing excerpted one thread down?
Ken
@WaterGirl: 2021 wasn’t a leap year, so the calendar will be usable 3 more times over the next 27 years. Not in 2022, though.
sab
@WaterGirl: It is too bad we had to skip some years, because otherwise don’t eleven consecutive calendars cover all possible years (days of week landing on right number, and leap year and all.) My count might be wrong, but concept isn’t. Learned that from my Mom’s dishtowel calendar collection.
Thank you and your graphics partner for all the work y’all do. The last six weeks must have been hellish
ETA : Especially with shepherding the luddites. ( BJ trends a tad old?)

At the end of the day everything that the Right is guilty of will be blamed on a DEEP STATE False Flag operation, or the Lizard People/Martians.

So Mrs VR has some symptoms post travel. Took the test yesterday morning. Still has not got results back. I am relieved she is Pfizer boosted recently. But wtf the results delay is maddening.

@debbie:
Probably something to the effect that she has better things to do than respond to maniacal ravings.

@sab:
There are 14 possible annual calendars: 7 days of the week the calendar might start on and leap year and non-leap year. You should be able to get all the possible non-leap year calendars within a decade or so, but you’ll have to wait for a minimum of 25 years to get all the leap years.
debbie
WG: Here’s a link to the youtube video of the hearing. Cheney starts at about the 7:30 mark.
WaterGirl
@Ann Marie: Thank you! Of course Beth is the designer so most of the credit for the beautiful calendar goes to her. I did get to have some input, though, which truth be told is more fun than the collecting a thousand photos part. :-)

Stopped by my dad’s nursing home, and his private duty nurse went berserk for Christmas. Very cheery. Two trees in one room, and a little Christmas village with houses and some iceskaters that move with music when you turn it on. It was so sweet that I wanted to cry. Dad always hated holidays because the offspring troops descended en masse. He seems to like this simple cheerfulness.
ETA I think I will buy Ponyo some antlers to parade by his window. She is too excitable to come inside. My stepdaughter commented on how well behaved my German shepherd was. She went through four full obedience courses to get that way.
WaterGirl
@The Fat Kate Middleton: No, that’s perfectly fine!
You could also do it by email to my nym at balloon-juice.com
Thanks for sending the photo!
sab
@Roger Moore: I really suck at math. Thanks.
WaterGirl
@Ken: Actually, when you order a previous year’s calendar, you get last year’s photos but the calendar dates are all correct!
So it’s usable, it’s just that this year’s pics aren’t in it!
WaterGirl
@sab: Thank you! I will confess that fundraising followed by the calendar followed by the book club, all in rapid-fire succession, is not a run of things I would want to do all in the same month again. :-)
The best part is that I did it to myself!
WaterGirl
@VeniceRiley: Ugh, waiting sucks.
WaterGirl
@debbie: Thank you! I will watch the whole thing. If I had known about it in advance I would have set Tivo to record it on c-span.
Dan B
@VeniceRiley: I hope it’s just the cold but boosted is a very good thing!

@WaterGirl: I suspected that you were unacknowledgefly awesome
ETA I don’t have the energy lately to organize myself out of a box.
Mousebumples
@WaterGirl: no the best part is that you did it so well, and rocked it all! ??

This story could go in one of two ways….
Whew!
Dan B
@WaterGirl: It’s great. Everyone shows their outrage. It’s excellent messaging. It includes both narrative and appropriate emotion. I played the audio for my partner who’d been at the doctor’s – back pain – and his jaw dropped when Cheney read Don Jr’s text. The fact it was Jr floored him.
Enjoy!
You deserve it.
WaterGirl
@The Fat Kate Middleton: That photo is adorable!
I wish it were bigger. But photos weren’t exactly high res back then, so I am very happy to have it at all.
Kalakal
Seems only right to join in the praise for the calendars. Mine just arrived and you’ve done a great job. Many thanks
sab
@Ken: I know. My uncle’s wife’ s nurse was murdered by her husband because she was having an affair with the chef in the same nursing home. Actually, that is wrong. She wasn’t the wife. She was a friend of the wife. It wasn’t funny. It was horrifying.
Ken
So I recorded MeTV’s Christmas Cartoon Special last night, and began watching it. Something seemed off, and I finally figured out what. It’s not the cartoons, it’s the commercials. None for toys, none for kids’ clothes — it’s the usual lineup of auto and life insurance, heart medications, orthopedic chairs… And I realized that this cartoon program is targeted at old people like me.
sab
@NotMax: So Flo is a bitch?
My stepkids keep abandoning and rescuing pets to us, and currently we have six cats. This/that is not normal. I love them all, but they stand on the kitchen counter when I am trying to cook. They stroll across my pie dough when I am rolling it out. They wake me up at 3 am when they are hungry although they have dry food in their dishes.
VOR
@japa21: Some of it is just cognitive dissonance that violence and threats could have come from nice polite conservatives. People wearing “Fuck Your Feelings” shirts couldn’t possibly be impolite. And are you saying those nice Proud Boys could have done something wrong? We all know Donald Trump never lies. Unpossible! It had to have been Antifa! Deep State False Flag! Just had to be!
Baud
@Ken:
Nah, it’s that kids today are in a pretty sorry state.
Roger Moore
@sab:
This isn’t really math, or at least not the hard kind of math. You just have to know that in a regular year, the next year will start one day of the week later than this year. In a leap year, it’s 2 years. So, as an example, 2021 started on a Friday. It’s not a leap year, so 2022 will start on a Saturday. 2022 isn’t a leap year, either, so 2023 will start on a Sunday. Then 2024 will start on a Monday. 2024 is a leap year, so 2025 will start on a Wednesday instead of a Tuesday. And so forth. So you get:
2021: Friday
2022: Saturday
2023: Sunday
2024: Monday (leap year)
2025: Wednesday
2026: Thursday
2027: Friday
2028: Saturday (leap year)
2029: Monday
2030: Tuesday
At that point, it will be 10 years, and we’ll have all 7 days a non-leap year can start on. If you start in 2022, it will take only 9 years. But if you start in 2023, you’ll have to go to 2031 (Wednesday), 2032 (Thursday, leap year), and 2033 (Saturday) to get every day of the week, which is 11 years. The same logic applies regardless of when you start*. Again, this isn’t tricky math once you know the rules.
*Not quite. Years that are multiples of 100 but not of 400, like 2100, are not leap years. That means there are 7 consecutive non-leap years starting in 2097, so you could get a complete non-leap year calendar in 7 years starting that year.
sab
@WaterGirl: Cute kits and pups other years. I did not know that they readjusted thecalandar everyyear. Whole different bakl game. Which year’s pups and kits are cuter? None of mine are.

@sab: sounds like a catastrophe
Ken
@Baud: Brilliant! And you’re right, it must be the kids’ fault.
Ken
@Roger Moore: Now do the one about why the 13th falls on a Friday more often than any other day of the week.
Comrade Colette
@VeniceRiley: Ugh, I hope it’s negative. I’m waiting for test results, too – I’ve had a cold since Sunday night and got tested this morning, so I probably have until at least tomorrow night before I know. Waiting suuuuuuucks. Fingers crossed for you.
Kristine
@Ken:
Yeah, I braced myself, too.

Does anyone have a link to the Col. Waldron powerpoint, either the 36 page or 38 page version? If so, would you post it in the comments? The link posted on Silverman’s piece is only an upside down version of the first page when I try to open it. I have searched using Mr. Google, but so far I have articles about the powerpoint but not the document or a pdf of the document itself. Somebody probably posted a link already, but I missed it. Thanks.
Danielx
@sab:
So six is down towards the end of the normal curve, but everything else sounds like typical cat behavior.
Okay, so behavior maybe isn’t the right word. Let’s just leave it at typical.
Comrade Colette
@Mike in Pasadena:
There’s this version, from the Wayback Machine, dated July 2021.
ETA: 36 pages, title matches, but I have no idea what the difference between this and the 38-page version provided to the committee is.

@Roger Moore:
I’ll plan on doing that.

There was another ruling that also rejected a dismissal of “obstruction” charges by 1/6-ers. So far the courts are holding up this approach by DoJ to build a case (there are more challenges pending).

That Costco enchilada dish was amazing. Very too spicy for my taste, but excellent. And no cooking. Just put it in the oven, and an hour later out it came.

Old Dan and Little Ann
@Ken: I think there were at least 3 several years ago. I was teaching 4th grade. I remembering thinking WTF with all the Friday the 13ths?
Ken
@Old Dan and Little Ann: There are from 1 to 3 in each year. I never looked at how many can fall in one school year, though. Looks like 2019-2020 had them in September, December, and March.
Another Scott
@Comrade Colette: I happened to glance at that (thanks for the pointer – that’s the same version in a comment at EmptyWheel’s place that mentions 38 pages.
It’s a bunch of crazy nonsense. Every absentee vote apparently is fraudulent, or something. Dictator TFG gets to do what he wants to get the results he wants, according to these numbskulls.
All that’s missing are a few sprinkling of the Bilderbergs and the Tri-Lateral Commission.
Grr…
Cheers,
Scott.

@Old School: Frustrating as her leaving test was expensive but same day!
@Comrade Colette: Hope it’s a head cold for you too.

Calendars have arrived. Too busy / tired to open but preview was confirmation of WaterGirl and Co.’s excellent work / taste.
Also too, low res Christmas pic sent.

Another compliment for the calendars, got mine the other day and it’s great, so many cute pets.
