At their show in Philly last night, Jason and his band, the 400 Unit, played the first single off the album – R.E.M.’s “Driver 8”.
Great track. Great cover.
Oh, and it was a great show.
I’ll be buying Georgia Blue the day it drops.

(I swear I was putting this together before MisterMix’s post went up. Now I have to go find my Michelle Shocked CDS from back when they were first released…)

I would buy this album.

I’m seeing Isbell Sunday, part of a two day music fest near Buffalo. Hope he plays this. It’s my favorite rem song.

I may get a few copies – I’m sure my RWNJ bro would appreciate one and I’m sure I can think of others! ?

Breaking my heart… I have been wanting to see Jason and co. for years and I finally have tickets for later this week. The show is indoors and I just can’t bring myself to go.
We have young unvaccinated kids in the house that we don’t want to bring the virus home to. Even though the venue is being diligent about vaccine/test requirements, I figure there will be some Delta covid in the auditorium somewhere.
Anyone in Boston want our 2 tickets?

Driver 8 is not a song to be trifled with, but that’s a really nice cover.

Driver 8 is one of my favorites.
I think I might have given away my Michelle Shocked CDs. I didn’t realize they were worth $250 each.

It is. I’m anxious to hear how he covers “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.”

I shall atone with a song: Suzanne Vega, “Cassidy.” Seems like I was listening to Deadicated around the time I was listening to Michelle Shocked.

@Jeffro: Poll watchers will be important this year and next. There will be a lot of bad actors from the other side trying to disrupt balloting. They may make a token effort in your town, but they will be out in force elsewhere, likely in khaki pants and polo shirts, trying to deny voters the franchise. Many will be paid with dark money.

Judging from the clip, it’s going to be a great CD and I hope it raises oodles of cash for Stacy and friends.
REM was so prolific. It’s hard to have a favorite or even a top 5, but Driver 8 seems at the top of a lot of people’s faves.

He played here Sunday night at a vax-mask only gig and the word is that it was great!

@Another Scott: Is that for real or the Onion? They switched over in 1975. Nobody under the age of retirement will even know how it works. I remember watching little old ladies in Marks and Spencer trying to figure out how many meters of fabric they needed to sew a new garment from an old pattern.

@Another Scott: Ugh. That’s all I’m going to say. That crap spewing out of his piehole is so horrifying that I can’t find even making fun of it to be funny.

@Suzanne: it’s so rad to find a band you like is also into a band you love

Agree about the song. Maybe it’s just me, but if I’d just been listening and hadn’t been watching the video, I might have thought it was a lo-fi REM concert recording? A fine cover.

The REM folks are very happy with this effort.

@sab:
It sounds like they still sell a lot of things in traditional sizes, e.g. pints of beer. They were still allowed to label them with the Imperial measurement, but they also had to be labeled in metric. Now it will be legal to mark them only in Imperial units. FWIW, this is worse than the US, where you still have to include the metric units on everything.
Sure Lurkalot

@raven: Wow. Surprised for a moment that he went that far back. Then I recalled 1) his years with Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Ray Charles; and 2) that I go back that far. Was between high school and college that year.
I saw him and the Shells in Ann Arbor/Hill Auditorium back around the time of that album. With Cyrus Chestnutt, James Carter, and the showstealer, Twinkie Clark.

No fan of Howard Stern, but he gets Norm MacDonald to do a fantastic Rodney Dangerfield impression here (toward the end of the clip):

@raven: Isn’t this a variation on the old Van Halen no brown M&M’s contract? A way to see if the venue actually reads the contract and all the band’s requirements?

@raven:
People laugh and make fun of musicians and their dressing room requirements like this…
But touring on the road for months, even if otherwise luxe accomodations, having stuff you like around in your dressing room is worth that laughter, if you ask me.
===========================================
And as far as other acts stealing a show, many years ago we went to see Stevie Ray Vaughn, so you know how long ago it had to be. The opener was a blues act, a guy named Lonnie Mack, I had never heard of him, which may say more about me in a small town.
He totally stole that night from Stevie Ray, was a great show, we were all shocked by the contrast with the headliner act, which was not electric at all. You would think that after a few shows, Stevie Ray would wake up and start killing his show too… maybe.
