I thought it would be good to try and end the day on a good note. For those who missed it…the ducks have taken over my bathroom and I promised you a photo:
BTW, between the pig last weekend and the ducks this weekend, I am definitely team, “some animals need to live outside.”
And here is bonus Bixby. I accidentally threw one of their soccer balls over the fence when I was playing with Scout the other day. I felt bad, so I bought a new soccer ball and Bixby promptly did what he does, deflate it.

The short-haired cat is shedding like crazy on my black sweatshirt (and elsewhere). The longer-haired sibling cat has not seemed to have lost a single hair since he joined us. They are both good kitties, even though they sometimes steal things.

Bixby says monch! What a cutie. My quarantine friend is fostering the most adorable pupper (who looks not unlike Bixby, actually), and it’s always a delight to see him. He usually curls up next to me on the couch and falls asleep.

Ducks!!!
We just got a new couch and Samwise loves it. All the furniture for the new place is finally all set up. Love this apartment!
Let’s see, what else is respiteful. I’m watching Monk!

You’re going to need to scrub that bathtub once this cold snap is over

I love that you couldn’t sleep worrying about the ducks.
And they wasted no time getting the tub f
ull of feathersfeeling nice and lived-in. Do you have more than one bathroom, or do you get to use the toilet under the ducks’ supervision?Today my kitties thought about going outside. There’s between 10-12″ of snow here.
Jeannie thought about it long enough to take two steps onto the back deck, and watch her own feet disappear into the snow, before she ran back inside.
Oscar went out front, lurked under the table on the porch for a while, then soldiered on through snow up to his chest about 10 yards before deciding this wasn’t nearly as much fun as when he was a young cat, and came running back inside.

@Chacal Charles Calthrop: Are you kidding? I”m going to have to bleach the bathroom from ceiling to floor. ?♀️

I saw a white peacock this morning, just sitting in someone’s driveway, staring at its reflection in the side of the parked car.
Probably an omen for something. Is there a tarot card for ‘white peacock, reflected’?

You might be a critter god ala Douglas Adams’ traveling sales guy who didn’t know he was a rain god but was annoyed to seem to be followed by clouds everywhere.
Snugged in with hot chocolate and about 10 inches of snow. And no reason to go anywhere tomorrow.
And to the other jackals, thanks for the respite links.
ETA you = Tamara

@TaMara (HFG): Yeah — not much of a respite it seems to me

@Beautifulplumage: I have two problems:
So at some point I have to refill my vehicle so I can get to Physio on Tuesday without borrowing one. And keep my teeth clean. And more snow is coming. Oi. :P
I’m just kvetching. I love snow.

Got baking soda?
Redshift
Earlier this winter, our furnace broke down and we had to get through a night without it. (It got down to the low 40s in the house.) We were bundled up in bed, and both Ms. Redshift and I had trouble sleeping because we were worried about the bunnies. (Two of them are nine years old.)
We came down in the morning, and they just gave us a look like “What? We have fur. Where’s breakfast?”

The Ducks!
It was foretold……….
prostratedragon
The magenta heart balloon blew, up into the snow, higher than the street lights, over the trees, into the clouds, and out of sight. Down on the street, there was no one.
Yutsano
@NotMax: That hack had already occurred to me. Of course I’m squeezing whatever I can out of the tube I have but that will only cover me for another couple days at most. I’ll see if I can get my car dug out in the morning although the second wave has already started.
opiejeanne
@Yutsano: It’s snowing there now? I can’t tell if it’s snowing here right now, too dark. I don’t know how much we got today because I went out at 11am and it was about 6 inches on the driveway, but it snowed until nearly 6pm.
opiejeanne
@TaMara (HFG): Tamara, I didn’t get to read about how you solved the piggy problem. Did it belong to a neighbor?
John Revolta
@opiejeanne: Yeah, she said she heard some people calling for the pig and it was some neighbors from up the street. They had heard the ducks in the past so maybe the piggy went looking for the quackers!
sab
@Yutsano: You can never be out of toothpaste. Just squeeze that tube harder. Try a rolling pin from the kitchen.
sab
@Yutsano: Oops. I see you saw that solution already.
No name
@prostratedragon: This is lovely. Did you write it?

Thread’s probably dead, but Gaby wanted me to let everyone know that cold weather and snow ❄️ are the best things ever. We’ve been walking most every morning, and I swear I spend half the time watching her roll in and push her face through snow.
J.
@TaMara (HFG): Your animal posts always put a smile on my face and make me laugh. You are a good soul. Those ducks are lucky to have you. (Though I am kind of disappointed you didn’t keep the pig.)
Nutmeg again
Ah! You’ve helped me understand why I saw a duck in a bathtub at the big animal hospital one time … to clarify… Angell Memorial is the big dog/cat (and bird!) hospital in the Boston area. Its campus used to be a seminary, and the wards included former bedrooms and bathrooms. One time, many many years ago, I was visiting one of my creatures who had a procedure, and I saw a duck calmly swimming in a tub, still built in where it started in a dormitory. It seemed unusual, but a good use of facilities–now I know!
