Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

What fresh hell is this?

This really is a full service blog.

This is all too absurd to be reality, right?

The revolution will be supervised.

Yes we did.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

There will be lawyers.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Han shot first.

They are all Michael Cohen now.

Just a few bad apples.

Saul Alinsky is my co-pilot.

I really should read my own blog.

Too inconsequential to be sued

This blog goes to 11…

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

People are complicated. Love is not.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

I swear, each month of 2020 will have its own history degree.

I did not have this on my fuck 2020 bingo card.

I always loved living around beach people.
Of course that always came with the caveat I could retreat five miles inland to get away from the beach people.

Time for some musical thoughts after a long day.

So, seems to me bands refer themselves in songs quite a lot; the Cars did It, Pink Floyd kinda did it (obligatory shout out to Raven and Which One’s Pink), I think there are many others…

…but how often do bands name check other artists? Neil Young and Skynard might be the most famous one. Kacey Musgraves and “burning one with John Prine” might be the most fun one. Thunder Road and Springsteen was Roy Orbison. Ive long thought Prince called out U2 on Purple Rain but that might be a reach.

Anyway, maybe it happens more in calling out others more than calling out your own band. Not sure.

Long day. This is how much brain power is left.

ETA: hold on. Cars is Gary Numan. $&@$.

Despite some odd issues with commenting there is now an active oil leak in San Francisco bay.

CHEVRON OIL SPILL: State emergency officials say a pipeline containing a mixture of oil and gasoline is leaking 5 gallons a minute into the San Francisco Bay.

My understanding is that rappers these days do it (name-check themselves) *all* the time (e.g. “DJ Khaled!!!”) and that Lady Gaga learned it from them.

    @The Dangerman:

I think it’s fairly common. Off the top of my head:

Tom Petty – Del Shannon in “Running Down A Dream,” and Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Sammy Davis in “Swingin”

John Mellencamp, then known as Cougar names Sam Cooke.

Bowie did a whole song for Zimmerman (Dylan)

Lennon said he didn’t believe in Elvis or Zimmerman or his own band.

Arthur Conley’s “Sweet Soul Music” is all about other people.

That was the most damning video I have ever seen. Trump needs to lose his citizenship. And so does every single one of the traitors who followed his orders and stormed the Capitol. THIS is who we need to be deporting.#ImpeachmentTrial— Ben Jackson (@BJacksonWrites) February 9, 2021

    @Patricia Kayden:

First, I’m not sure revoking citizenship is appropriate, as opposed to just enforcing the law, indicting, trying, convicting and imprisoning the insurrectionists, including Donald John Trump and all his minions who still worked for him on Jan 6.

Second, where could we deport them to that would be willing to accept stupid evil bastards like these we speak of? Because we can’t force an ally to take them, that would be cruel to the allies…

We can’t send them to Russia, which would be the most appropriate location for Donald J Trump. Preferably in January when it’s -45 and snowing in Moscow. But they don’t want him, I don’t think.

The Donald would have a terrible accident involving an iron tub, an open window or balcony on the 53rd floor, and a long fall just a few weeks after arriving in Moscow, don’t you expect? So sad, after finally getting to live near his good buddy Vladimir!
