While it has no legal weight, most Americans will now see this as over, and that’s important for reducing tension. The presumption is now that Trump is gone. So now we only have to wait to hear what kind of nonsense there will be from the WH in response. It will be nonsense, only question is how bad.
Trump still gets to be President for another two and a half months. He can do a lot of mischief in that time. He can get us into a war. He can and will likely destroy every document he can get his hands on, wipe as much digital data as he can.
In the service of feathering a nest offshore, he could disclose a ton of classified info to e.g. the Russkies.
On entering the WH, the Bidens will need to have the place swept for bugs, electronic or insect. I’d want to replace every computer in the place and have the entire place minutely inspected for damage, sabotage, blocked toilets, you name it.
This will be, by far, the rockiest transition in modern times. The Biden administration will likely have to spend a good portion of the first few months just restoring basic functionality.
@trollhattan: Probably? No chance in hell he attends. Tho, I’ve said before, I really hope that Biden scales back the ceremony to the absolute minimum. We’re still in the middle of a pandemic here..

@Punchy: No. Biden would win that lawsuit in 3 minutes. He can freeze them out of the WH, but:
A) Biden has plenty of WH experience to navigate that just fine.
B) I can’t imagine there’s anything ongoing in the WH that Biden is interested in smoothly segueing off of. The only thing of value there is Fauci, and I’m pretty sure they’re already talking.

@enplaned: Wouldn’t be shocking if IC has some presents about Trump for the new admin on 1/21.
I can imagine situations in which monitoring of foreigners picked up some things from u careful Trump minions or the anthropomorphic colostomy bag himself.
… Trump has famously survived one impeachment, two divorces, six bankruptcies, twenty-six accusations of sexual misconduct, and an estimated four thousand lawsuits. Few people have evaded consequences more cunningly. That run of good luck may well end, perhaps brutally, if he loses to Joe Biden. Even if Trump wins, grave legal and financial threats will loom over his second term.
Two of the investigations into Trump are being led by powerful state and city law-enforcement officials in New York. Cyrus Vance, Jr., the Manhattan District Attorney, and Letitia James, New York’s attorney general, are independently pursuing potential criminal charges related to Trump’s business practices before he became President. Because their jurisdictions lie outside the federal realm, any indictments or convictions resulting from their actions would be beyond the reach of a Presidential pardon. Trump’s legal expenses alone are likely to be daunting. (By the time Bill Clinton left the White House, he’d racked up more than ten million dollars in legal fees.)
And Trump’s finances are already under growing strain. During the next four years, according to a stunning recent Times report, Trump—whether reëlected or not—must meet payment deadlines for more than three hundred million dollars in loans that he has personally guaranteed; much of this debt is owed to such foreign creditors as Deutsche Bank. Unless he can refinance with the lenders, he will be on the hook. The Financial Times, meanwhile, estimates that, in all, about nine hundred million dollars’ worth of Trump’s real-estate debt will come due within the next four years. At the same time, he is locked in a dispute with the Internal Revenue Service over a deduction that he has claimed on his income-tax forms; an adverse ruling could cost him an additional hundred million dollars.
To pay off such debts, the President, whose net worth is estimated by Forbes to be two and a half billion dollars, could sell some of his most valuable real-estate assets—or, as he has in the past, find ways to stiff his creditors. But, according to an analysis by the Washington Post, Trump’s properties—especially his hotels and resorts—have been hit hard by the pandemic and the fallout from his divisive political career. “It’s the office of the Presidency that’s keeping him from prison and the poorhouse,” Timothy Snyder, a history professor at Yale who studies authoritarianism, told me.
…. Last winter, a Cabinet secretary told me Trump had confided that he couldn’t imagine returning to his former life as a real-estate developer. As the Cabinet secretary recalled, the two men were gliding along in a motorcade, surrounded by throngs of adoring supporters, when Trump remarked, “Isn’t this incredible? After this, I could never return to ordering windows. It would be so boring.”
I think he need not worry about windows, aside from how narrow will his be? Welcome to the rest of your life, Trump.
May you be even sorrier about that ridiculous EC victory in 2016 and that you did not just jet off to Turnberry in Scotland, as you’d planned. You’d still be a jerk, but you might not be as big a laughingstock.
And now: back to celebrating Prez-elect Joe and VP-elect Kamala. Say her name (right!)
I’m very much looking forward to the forthcoming statement from the President-Elect’s desk that his Administration will direct the DoJ to investigate and prosecute any individual or individuals who are discovered to have removed, destroyed, replaced, mislaid or otherwise made unavailable any and all documentation that comes under the various preservation of records acts.

I would like Biden to start managing the epidemic response ASAP. Another 80 days with the Trump/Azar herd immunity approach will likely cause 100,000 more deaths (1,182 yesterday and climbing) and leave the virus further out of control. I don’t think Mr. transactional would allow that, but promise him less jail time or something. The deaths seem even more horrifyingly unnecessary now that he doesn’t need to pretend everything is o.k. to win re-election any longer.

flying under the radar, but may be yet another plot twist in this election, AK doesn’t START counting absentee and early vote ballots until a week after the election. There are well over 100,000 of those up this year. That is a huge number in a state as small as AK. Dan Sullivan is just some carpetbagger. He doesn’t have the life-long AK roots of a Murkowski, so he doesn’t have that generational loyalty that she does. His opponent Al Gross has that AK cred. It’s not impossible he wins a senate seat.

@SFAW: Biden should make it clear to the current White House staffers that on 1/20 they hand in their badge, and after that, but before they go home, there will be a, let’s call it “debriefing”, with the FBI.
My reading of the summary is that it is mainly a bureaucratic thing, office space, briefings, and all kinds of detail things that drumpf has no interest in. As someone else mentioned, Biden has a pretty good knowledge of how bureaucracy functions and should have plenty of help from others that know and also from a sizable number of civil servants who know that he will take their work seriously. I suspect that all the Biden transition team needs to do is focus on what they need to do and it won’t attract much, if any attention from drumpf.

The fascist party already chose Trump. They seceded from the United States when they refused to convict him in his impeachment. They are not American. They have no connection to America. Tell them to get the fuck off our land.

This is a funny Tweet:
So the race ends as the President golfs—and his pathetic aides stage a shambolic press conference at a landscaping company next to a dildo store. I couldn’t have precisely predicted this, but it seems inevitable really.
Origuy
It has to be said:
This is good news for John McCain.

@TaMara (HFG):
Oh my god, my heart just grew three sizes, and it was as already pretty expansive today.

@Sebastien:
And now you’ve gone and made me cry again. This just the best day! ?

@Origuy:
Hahaha.

@The Thin Black Duke:
Enjoy and gloat a bt!

@Alison Rose: Yes! That is a fantastic idea!!!

That’s him all over, and that’s why he’s broadcasting from the remotest section of the wilderness.

@catclub:
Maybe use a Sharpie to insert the word “Actually”?
Omnes Omnibus
@debbie: I feel that gloating was implicit in enjoying.

Both my Mexican exchange sons and several of my widespread exchange daughters are messaging me to express relief. Long road ahead, but today is for celebration.
debbie
@Omnes Omnibus:
Surrounded as I am by Republicans, there is a difference. I think I’ll go stroll by the homes with Trump signs and listen for sounds of wailing. That’ll be when I can really let my gloat run freed.
The Thin Black Duke
@debbie: Let your freak flag fly proudly, my Lady.

@SFAW: Biden should make it clear to the current White House staffers that on 1/20 they hand in their badge, and after that, but before they go home, there will be a, let’s call it “debriefing”, with the FBI.
PAM Dirac
@SFAW:
Kathleen
@Salty Sam: That is exactly how I feel. Thank you for your eloquence!

@Punchy:
He is president up until noon January 20, 2021. Unless he walks away – resigns. A friend said that if he goes to MarLogo to sulk he’s no longer president. I tried to explain it doesn’t work that way, but he just wants him gone so badly that he doesn’t get there is a process and it isn’t like him not showing up for work.

@prostratedragon: PDX native here. Um, Jim Paxson retired in 1990… I assume you’re referring to the beloved Trail Blazer.

Great clarity, a subdued Schwarzenegger, a very rich with bold Samuel L. Jackson and yet a subtle hint of MAGA tears. I’ll take the whole bottle please.

@SFAW:
I’m thinking he’s more of a toadfart than toadweasel.
YMMV

@Baud: Also too, one of Brian Cox’s best roles!

Maybe a FO-MEGA?

@Redshift:
Let me ask you, would you rather have shitforbrains golfing, or in the WH causing more destruction?
I’m sort of hoping that he’s golfing……

I slept in late today after a rough day and uneven night’s sleep, so I am just seeing the news.
Are we there yet?
Yes, we are here!
And once again, I am loving the lyrics to Star Trek: Enterprise, for this moment.
It’s been a long road
Getting from there to here
It’s been a long time
But my time is finally near
And I can feel the change in the wind right now
Nothing’s in my way
And they’re not gonna hold me down no more
No, they’re not gonna hold me down
‘Cause I’ve got faith of the heart
I’m going where my heart will take me
I’ve got faith to believe
I can do anything
I’ve got strength of the soul
And no one’s gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star
I’ve got faith
I’ve got faith, faith of the heart
There’s a lot of work to do. And I have faith in Biden and Harris.

@Sebastien:
Thanks, Sebastien! We’ve worked hard, donated, organized, now we get to be happy.
And Wife and I love France, and once the Trump Plague is over, we intend to spent a lot of time in Europe, visiting ancient places and eating great food all over the continent. Oysters in Brittany!!!
Cheese, champagne, bread. Liberty, equality, fraternity!!!
SFAW
@Ruckus:
I’m OK with either one, as well as a whole host of similar expressions.

Make that pay-per-view, and they could knock a big hole in the deficit.

I saw a headline stating: “The GOP has a decision to make: It’s either Trump or America.”
The fascist party already chose Trump. They seceded from the United States when they refused to convict him in his impeachment. They are not American. They have no connection to America. Tell them to get the fuck off our land.

@lowtechcyclist:
Hey that’s my gag. dammit, you got here first…

Sooner is back home, both physically and spiritually. :)

@mrmoshpotato:
trump officially moved to Florida, he’s likely heading to Mar-a-Logoff before fleeing the country altogether.

@lowtechcyclist: Kicking and screaming at the same time is a lot of work. Maybe it should be divided between the Secret Service and the shitgibbon.

I have nothing to add.

@trollhattan:
he’s got his trolls all over his twitter feed slavering over the idea of Kasich being appointed to the cabinet. I guess he expects to be rewarded for NOT flipping OH to Biden. there was a reason we referred to him as King John when he was governor. he’s an arrogant asshole and will try to claim credit for winning this election and saving the GOP from Trump all on his own. too bad he failed miserably at stopping Trump back in 2016 when it would have done some good for the country and the GOP. seriously he’s even more reviled by Rs than JEB. Not hated quite as much as Ted Cruz but working on it.

I don’t think there’s anything I can add that others haven’t already said, but I wanted to celebrate with all of you. Here’s to Joe and Kamala! (And don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out, Loser!)

@Amir Khalid: Here is how to pronounce it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmuDeCIP874
A woman from anywhere (formerly Mohagan)
@dc: It’s not multiple choice, it’s all of them, of course. Translated from the Assyrian, I think.
A woman from anywhere (formerly Mohagan)
@Salty Sam: True that, from an old white woman.
