I saw this yesterday evening but I figured we were not quite mentally in a place to take action yet, but figured that we would be this morning.
Stacey Abrams asked for help – for people who can help cure ballots IN PERSON.
I’m also willing to bet that they could use some money toward that effort. Donate to Fair Fight
? GEORGIA: We need your help contacting voters across the state to ensure their votes are counted. Voters only have until THIS FRIDAY, November 6th – sign up to help today: https://t.co/uQuSMf6f58 1/2
— Fair Fight (@fairfightaction) November 4, 2020
Let’s help them Count Every Vote.
Update: and help drag Perdue down to less than 50% + 1 so we can have a second run-off for Senate in Georgia.
Nicole
She’s so inspiring. As I’ve seen said of her on Twitter, to have an election stolen from her and her response to be to make sure that never happens to anyone else… that’s definitely someone who subscribes to the campsite theory of life.
Lord Fartdaddy (Formerly, Mumphrey, Smedley Darlington Mingobat, et al.)
Sent ’em $100.
Roger Moore
@Nicole:
I hope there’s space for her in the voting rights division in the Biden DOJ.
WaterGirl
@Nicole: She is inspirational. What’s the campsite theory of life?
WaterGirl
@Roger Moore: My money says she runs for governor in 2022 and wins.
MazeDancer
Biden is likely to take GA today (knock wood).
But the ballot cure can help Ossoff push Perdue into a run-off.
Kathleen
@Nicole: I heard Bakari Sellers say this morning that she is the reason Georgia is competitive for Dems and she deserves a parade in her honor.
WaterGirl
@MazeDancer: I agree, that’s where I landed last night. I think Biden will take GA, but I am hoping/praying that the cured ballots help drag Perdue under 50% + 1.
I think Perdue was at 50.2 % last night, but I might have that number wrong.
Citizen Alan
Stacey would make a great governor, but honestly, I wish she’d become head of the DNC. We haven’t had a good one since Howard Dean.
Baud
@MazeDancer: I need to get work done today, but I want to know right away when the right combination of states gets called to make Biden’s win official. I wish I had more self discipline.
narya
@WaterGirl: Leave the campsite in better condition than you found it (clean up after yourself and improve things when you can).
SenyorDave
My rant for the day. About 20% of black men voted for Trump. WTF!!! How effin stupid are they? I know that white males are stupid sacks of crap ( disclosure: I am a white male, but I am Jewish so Trump suppporters probably wouldn’t even consider me white), but now we have to add a portion f black males to that mix. And apparently Hispanic males as a whole might have even favored Trump over Biden. Maybe men shouldn’t be allowed to vote or hold office – no woman who could get elected could ever be as bad as Trump.
Baud
@Citizen Alan: Certainly, if Biden takes GA, she can write her ticket within the Dem party. I’m not sure what she wants to do next, however.
Nicole
@WaterGirl:
@narya:
Narya said it. Leave things in better shape than how you found them. A fine philosophy for getting through this world, I think.
Baud
@SenyorDave: Where are you getting your numbers from?
Baud
@narya: Shit, I’ve been doing it backwards.
Nicole
@Baud: We tried telling you that BAUD! Reverse Campsite! was maybe not the best slogan to run with.
mvr
Thanks WaterGirl. I was trying to figure out what I could do to push from Nebraska and where it would be most effective to send money. I sent $100 just now.
MazeDancer
@WaterGirl: GA Election Chief, finally, at 8:15AM, corrected his earlier whopping error of number of ballots left to count to around 51K.
Trump has a 18.5K lead.
Biden has been getting around 75% of the votes counted.
You do the math. Okay, I will: 50,000 x .7 = 35,700!
Stacy Abrams elects a President!
But you are right in your math, she needs help taking the Senate.
WaterGirl
@Baud: I am willing to text you when that happens.
WaterGirl
@SenyorDave: I saw that statistic refuted in one of the threads last night – more like 12%. And even when Barack ran the first time, 10% voted for Hillary.
Both of those are better than 20%!
clay
@SenyorDave: I wouldn’t trust exit polls, if that’s where your figures come from. They’re unreliable in a good year, but this year even more so because of the huge quantities of mail-ins and early votes.
Kathleen
OT but I saw AP article online that said Biden and Kelly took Arizona. They’re still waiting for results for down ticket races. Did anyone else see that? I’m like a Republican trying to keep in time with the “Stop and/or Count The Votes” chant – 3 threads behind the beat.
JPL
@WaterGirl: Fulton Cty is going to update results at eleven and that should pull Perdue under 50 percent
Abrams did it!
WaterGirl
@JPL: please please please please please let that be true.
clay
@WaterGirl: Sadly, I still think “familiar white man squeaking to Georgia victory” is a much easier lift than “black woman winning governorship”.
I would love to be wrong.
Felanius Kootea
@Nicole: She is amazing. I’ve been giving to Fair Fight monthly and this election has really brought home to me how necessary the work they do is. I hope she takes Kemp on again in 2022 and wins.
WaterGirl
@JPL: You just added the “Abrams did it!”
Not sure if you’re saying that Biden won GA, that Perdue is already below 50% + 1, or just generally that she is why GA is where it is.
WaterGirl
@clay: She almost beat kemp last time, and he was both secretary of state and running for governor at the same time. He fucking stole it last time.
germy
Jinchi
@MazeDancer: That math is pretty tight though.
If 18.5 K separate them, and Biden picks up 35K while Trump picks up 15K we’re at an optimistic scenario with Biden winning by ~1.5K.
I find it exasperating that Biden, currently winning nationally by 3.5 million votes, is considered only barely likely to win the election, and the multi-million voter edge he built in California is worth about as much as a coin toss in Nevada.
Felanius Kootea
@SenyorDave: If this is based on Election Day exit poll data, the stats are skewed to those predisposed to vote for Trump. The vast majority of early voters skewed a Biden and probably didn’t get polled in the same way.
That said, it is sad that there’s a substantial group of men of all races, especially white men without a college degree, who view Trump’s pathologies as strengths.
p.a.
Here’s a chance for some quick cash: someone develop a location app that tells tRumpublicans whether they should be rioting FOR or AGAINST counting votes based on where they are! Won’t someone think of the children!!????
Kathleen
@Kathleen: So not a kewel kid
James E Powell
Just woke up. Thought this would be done by now. What’s the buzz, tell me what’s happening?
JPL
@WaterGirl: She was able to mobilize the black vote. Democrats need to remember that we don’t need to win back rural white votes, we need mobilize the black vote. If GA does flip, it is because of Stacy Abrams.
Immanentize
@SenyorDave: That piece of data is bullshit of the first order.
People: polls are way off, they suck so bad!
You:. Except exit polls based on small samples of people who voted in person on election day. And now I can hate on blacks!
We ought to wait until about 6 months go by, when all votes are counted, etc., before anyone starts hating on people because of one day exit polls. K?
Elizabelle
Bringing this forward. Do any of you have any interest in a working meetup in Georgia??
If the Georgia Senate races come down to run-offs, (please, please, please — although an outright Dem win is always welcome, too), we could do a masked, contactless meetup down there.
It may be important to walk the neighborhoods and put informative info on the doors; talk up the importance of voting to those we find out in the yards and neighborhoods.
With the Spanberger campaign, we did contact-less lit drops to our voters’ doors — no knocking the door, so not a canvass, per se — but it was a pleasure to talk to several of those voters, when they turned out to be in the yard or came to the door once they saw us — usually to announce they had already voted! Our voters rocked this year.
We can check for interest a little closer to the date. I think being out there, and being visible supporters for Rev. Warnock and Jon Ossoff, could help turn out a few votes.
We can find out where we would be most appreciated with the lit-dropping. Could be a smaller town or city. Very likely to be suburbs.
[I was sad that COVID prevented our meetup in Maine to support Sara Gideon, and even sadder that g-damned furrowed brow Susan Collins won re-election. Maine!]
Jinchi
Georgia headed for something close to a tie. Biden edge shrinking in Arizona and Trump edge shrinking in Pennsylvania. Still waiting on Nevada (currently Biden up 8,000).
It’s 2020. Life can’t be easy this year.
Should get the next batch of numbers at 10:30, noon and 9 PM Eastern.
WaterGirl
@JPL: Completely agree. Stacey Abrams is helping people understand that their vote DOES matter.
Felanius Kootea
@clay: I think she may have just built an “unpurgeable” Georgia voter base. Kemp won with about 55,000 votes after incorrectly purging over 300,000 voters as GA Secretary of State, including over 150,000 who would have been more inclined to vote for Abrams. Many of those disenfranchised voters will never forget what he did.
She’s added way more voters this cycle and his handling of the coronavirus had him rated one of the worst/least trusted governors in the US. If she wants to take him on in 2022, I think she has a great chance of winning.
Jinchi
She’s currently the best hope for a Democratic Senate.
James E Powell
@Jinchi:
Are we still beaming with confidence about AZ, NV, and PA?
Are the Republicans still sending out mobs and lawyers
The campaigns have more precise knowledge, so their actions should reveal a bit of what they know. If someone is trying to stop the count, maybe they know how it will end.
Yarrow
Stacey Abrams is just the best. I’d be thrilled if she wanted to be head of the DNC but we’ve got other great possibilities for that role too. I can totally see her heading up some new Fair Elections commission or running for Governor of Georgia, or doing pretty much anything she wants to do.
Jinchi
Why not. It keeps the stress levels down.
And Republicans are still Republicans.
WaterGirl
@James E Powell: Nevada to announce results at 9 am this morning, but i am not sure what time zone!
All still going in the right direction, I believe, but no guarantee of outcome yet.
Immanentize
@James E Powell:
1) I am
2) of course! Including Rudy! to Philly indicating even Trump is not taking that issue seriously.
WaterGirl
@p.a.: I think that’s a brilliant idea. Someone with a lot of followers should tweet that. Even if we don’t make the app, people should talk about it as a way to (rightfully) mock the Republicans for their bullshit.
NotMax
@WaterGirl
9 Pacific time.
The Thin Black Duke
@SenyorDave: Not for nothing, but even if it’s true, what those numbers mean to me is that over 80% of black men are still a reliable vote for Democrats. If 80% of white men would do likewise, this country wouldn’t be in the shape it’s in.
topclimber
@clay: Let’s see what happens in the Senate runoff(s). Elect a black man senator and you can elect a black woman governor.
WaterGirl
@NotMax: Thanks. So it’s noon blog time.
Jinchi

@Elizabelle: I put in an order for 200 postcards last night, anticipating doing some writing through Postcards to Voters to Georgia in December. I sure hope it’s for 2 campaigns.
Jinchi
Agreed. I don’t understand Democratic obsession with kicking their base. Black men overwhelmingly voted for Biden. Save your anger for the groups who voted for Trump.
Baud
@James E Powell: If you trust the experts, PA is a lock. The only question is about when Biden overtakes Trump in the count and whether some combination of AZ, NV, or GA will give Biden the official win before that happens.
Yarrow
What’s the latest on the USPS court hearings? Are they happening again today?
narya
@Baud: I actually heard about it first from Dan Savage, who prescribes it for folks who get involved with someone much younger than they are.
japa21
Here’s why I would feel good about runoffs in GA. Trump will not be on the ballot. I have difficulty understanding his attraction to voters but he brings them out when he is on the ballot.
Elizabelle
@Nicole: That’s excellent. Postcards work.
Nicole
@Elizabelle: The first round I just wanted to get them out. This time I’m springing for the colored markers, to make them look prettier. :)
Bill Arnold
@germy:
Yeah, a lot of activity in those realms. Not just on Demon Trump’s side.
(To be clear, Paula White’s camp is attempting large scale magic spells in service of a Prince of Lies; nothing at all to do with G_d.)
Gin & Tonic
Saw on Twitter that Perdue is now below 50%
JPL
Georgia Senator David Perdue (R-Inc) has now fallen below the 50% mark. With outstanding ballots to be counted coming from primarily Democratic-leaning precincts, it is likely that Georgia will have two runoff races for U.S. Senate
or what Gin and Tonic said
James E Powell
@Baud:
So, we’re still basically where we were when I went to sleep. At least this time, I did sleep.

@Nicole: I ordered these really cute postcards with dogs on them. They … are still looking at me.
@Gin & Tonic: Perdue below 50%? Oh, I hope that is true.

@Gin & Tonic: @JPL:
Yes! Perdue below 50% would be awesome news
edit: I googled and I am not finding anything that says that.

This is going to be wild:
Jinchi
Smart move.
hueyplong
@germy: That’s all you need to know regarding whether Biden is going to win PA. Trump himself thinks litigation is his only path.
Redshift
@germy: Reminds me of a favorite quote (which I thought was from Ladyhawke, but I’ve never been able to track down):
Barbara
@germy: This is not a serious legal team.
Baud
@James E Powell: Mostly. I think AZ got a little worrisome late last night but the odds are still in Biden’s favor. The biggest change this morning from what I’ve seen is more confidence about a favorable result in PA. GA is inching closer but it’ll be tight. And NV is a black box until they announce their results today, so no change there.

Redshift
Relevant to both the previous thread and this one, one of the ways Stacy Abrams has been building a multiracial coalition (building in the work of Dr. King and others) is by showing people that when politicians gain power by suppressing poor Black folks, they always turn it on all poor people.
hueyplong
@germy: Bwahahahahahaha. A defeated Trump would not venture into public to be pointed at and laughed at by a million Nelsons.
Jinchi
So that’d be 2 more Democrats in the Senate.
Redshift
@NotMax: Welding would cost too much, just slap a thick coat of gold paint in it!

@germy: This is Donald Trump we’re talking about. Perdue and Kelly are on their own, armed with their stock portfolios.
WaterGirl
@germy: So not under 50% yet, it sounds like. Damn.
germy
WaterGirl
@germy:
hahahahaha
GOP winning wold depend on Trump doing something to help others that won’t help him? Good luck with that!
But someone could pay him to do it, and would probably jump right on that.

@SenyorDave: Sadly, many of our fellow Jews, whether in the Trump Administration, serving the Trump legal team, donating heavily to Trump, using their media positions to pimp for Trump, aligning with white-nationalist fiends, supporting Israel’s horrific human-rights violations, doing anti-Covid Mask Wearing rallies, or terrorizing a BJ commentator on the Cuomo Bridge is not looking too good for us as a culture. Plus, I believe, black males skewed only 10 percent for Trump, not 20 percent. We have to clean our own house of “Jews Without Mercy,” as Adam Silverman noted, quoting a classic book from 1981 that foresaw this horror.
WaterGirl
@germy: Every time I see one of your tweets, I end up going to google and typing “Who is [insert name here]”
Because I don’t know whether it’s somebody’s next door neighbor or someone who would really be in the know.
I am here to report that the 5 times I had to do that last night and so far this morning, everyone has been someone who would be in the know.
James E Powell
@Baud:
I am very anxious about NV. Ralston says Biden underperformed in Clark county and it will be very tight. Expects first reports today to be from rural counties, which may give Trump the lead.
germy
@WaterGirl:
I try to avoid the twitter random people, unless they’ve posted some funny comedy (last night’s cat nodding along with bongo music, for example)
If it’s political, I try to stick with people with real credentials (legal or news) rather than the hot take crowd.

@Baud: I’m sort of making this up, but it’s possible that Biden isn’t hitting Hillary’s numbers in Vegas because voters there are anxious for the city to be open to tourists/suckers and they know Trump is less likely to lock them down than is Biden.
[Sort of a hot take that isn’t actually very hot.]

@Barbara: of course not – Rudy isn’t on it

@hueyplong:
Whatever the cause, people are going to freak out if Trump is ahead unless one of the other states reports something positive.
hueyplong
@Baud: Agree. PA is my comfort zone. Trump is telegraphing that he ain’t got the votes there.
Barbara
@James E Powell: My only comment is that the disparity in population between Washoe and Las Vegas, on the one hand, and every other county in Nevada, on the other, is just vast. But I agree, it is certainly not mathematically impossible for Trump to take Nevada. That is the main reason I wouldn’t allow my husband to put champagne on ice.
This is just a grueling process, the one we were really, really hoping to avoid.
WaterGirl
They’ve got Rudi and we’ve got Bob Bauer and an army of thousands of attorneys.

@p.a.:
Wonkette is covering some pretty awful viral video mixes of Biden that the GOP flooded FB and social media with. They targeted young BIPOC voters in swing states. They are clips of Biden reading transcripts in hearings and are designed to make him look like a virulent racist douche. So we may want to give our young BIPOC male brethren a break here. This kind of disinformation has worked pretty well on White people too.
https://www.wonkette.com/gop-use-social-media-to-smear-biden-dems-as-racist-which-they-dont-believe-is-a-thing
trigger warning about these clips – This is an official proceeding (and also 1985) so no one would’ve thought to use the “n-word” euphemism, which didn’t yet exist. (I think that’s another thing we owe the O.J. Simpson trial.) Biden himself isn’t dropping the “n-word” like a presumptuous white character in a Quentin Tarantino film.
Bill Arnold
@artem1s:
I will never forgive the GOP for these advertisements, and for the spanish-language compaigns in FL and Texas. (Those had Columbian involvement too, and maybe others.)
