Late notice, but it’s not as though you’ll have to dress up & travel:
… George Lopez and political strategist Ana Navarro will host the event, which will include appearances by Biden and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, along with vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, as well as actors like Armie Hammer, Helen Mirren, Billy Porter and Amy Schumer and the cast of Queer Eye.
The lineup of musical guests is: A$AP Ferg, Sara Bareilles, Aloe Blacc, the Black Eyed Peas with Jennifer Hudson, Bon Jovi, Cher, Ciara, Andra Day, Jermaine Dupri with Johntá Austin “and friends,” the Foo Fighters, Macy Gray, Dave Matthews, Ben Platt and others, according to the Biden campaign.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, Maren Morris and Pink are among the special guests also appearing, the campaign said.
The stars will appear from a variety of locations. Their appearances are a mix of live and pre-recorded segments.
Fans are able to donate any amount of money to the Joe Biden Victory Fund to attend the event, which will take place on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET…
it's a difficult story to write because no D wants to publicly boast the race is over and let their guard down. but the general frame you see written about Ds – "they like what they see but 2016 trauma still makes them nervous despite it all" – is not how most of the convos go

Also entertaining: Politico‘s chief political correspondent is irked that Biden is doing such a professional job!
“[Biden] has run, objectively speaking, one of the most monotonous and predictable and uneventful campaigns for president in recent memory. And it has been nothing short of superb.” https://t.co/bCX1DdNAhz

I feel like everyone I know has voted (except my Trumpy brother, who seems somewhat dispirited these days). I realize I haven’t talked about voting with every single friend and relative, but whenever I do, it turns out they’ve voted.

The AM Joy podcast last night had a big chunk of Joe’s speech near Philadelphia, and it was flatout refreshing to hear honest, actual, straight talk about what really works for the country, and how we all need to get behind that.

I think a fairly large majority of Americans have concluded by now that “entertainment value” is a poor criteria to use to judge a Presidential candidate’s fitness for office.
But that idea “does not compute” for our media betters.
mali muso
@sanjeevs: Biden being up in Texas feels like too-good-to-be-true, but I’ll toss it into the cautious optimism pile. The early vote numbers are looking pretty astonishing! Turns out that when you openly suppress the vote, people might just get more determined to exercise their right.

What happened to REAL bands like Yes??
sanjeevs
@mali muso: It’s a stretch but Texas opening field hospitals for COVID victims at the same time as the second Whitehouse outbreak isn’t a great look

Being nervous is fine after 2016, given the stakes. Being irrational is never ok.
BeuceFromOhio
Making the fascists nervous about Texas gives me great joy. And as noted above, everyone I know has voted already.
Time to move on to harassing the living shit out of Republican Senators. And where is the Portrait of Moscow Mitch?
sdhays
@Chyron HR: They said no.

Baud
@mali muso:
And that is why vote suppression is pro-democracy. #FederalistSociety

They tried, but it turned into a long distance runaround.

@sdhays:
Yes. I was heartened by Cole’s post last night about being bored. I hope 2021 is extremely boring for anyone.
Amir Khalid
Drezner is plainly frustrated that the less erratic, less newsworthy candidate is the one with the better chance to win the election. He doesn’t want a POTUS who gets it done without fuss, who respects the presidency by showing dignity and decorum and dedication to service; he can’t get stories out of that. He prefers the one whose alarming behaviour will generate many clickbaity stories and make his job exciting.
mali muso
@Baud: Vote for Baud! Boring since the beginning!
Wag
@Chyron HR: Yes was British.

Just saying . Early money is like yeast. Late money is wasted. Save it for next time.

Someone here shared some scientific studies pointing to exactly that.

Doug Jones is also doing a terrific concert online tonight. 5 pm Central, 6 pm Eastern. Jason Mraz and Saint Paul and the Broken Bones (of Birmingham, AL; had forgotten that). Pay what you can.

@Chyron HR: I think the Foos might be the first band I go see post-pandemic ??

Do Republicans ever gripe about the Democrats having all the cool celebrities?

@Sab:
I see events like this as intended to lock in votes. Contribute even a dollar and you’re more committed than you were before.
And while early money is great for many reasons, I would guarantee to you that every day the campaign is deciding where not to spend money that it think would be helpful, because very few Presidential campaigns end with buckets of cash. Ad buys happen right up until the last couple of days. So late money is not going to be useless.
randy khan
I would be delighted to have some unspectacular excellence in the White House.

@Sab: The campaigns are saying otherwise. Plus there is a TON of late activity going on with get out the vote, so I don’t think late money is wasted this year.
Because funding is so good, late money can be used to try in places that we might not have had the time/money/energy for.

Probably part of why Mark Meadows wanted to hide the news of the outbreak. Another part might be that Trump would see Pence as weak for allowing it* and use that as an excuse to announce he was dumping Pence and putting Ivanka on the ballot as VP.
* Consistency, self-reflections, and forethought are not Trump’s strong suits.

You can take Jonathan Martin out of Politico, but you can’t take Politico out of Jonathan Martin. From his Twitter yesterday:
Now my take from this is that the Biden campaign thinks both states are in play, and his magic bullet Barack Obama is handling FL just fine today. Maybe Biden thought he could give Ossoff and Warnock a boost. I guess Tiger Beat on the Potomac taught ole Jon some super special skilz though.

@gene108:
I wonder if Christie ever thanked Barack Obama for arranging a meeting with Bruce for him.

@mali muso: Like Trump, he is turning to his base in desperation. Are there enough Baudettes to save him?

@WereBear: I love that “shriveled little raisin hearts.” Clarifies things for me a lot.
Bluegirlfromwyo
@WaterGirl: They also might need it for more lawyers. Trump’s foghorned that he’ll contest as many early votes as he possibly can.
WaterGirl
@Omnes Omnibus: I’m gonna have to go with ‘yes’ on that one.
Ken
Now I’m imagining “Along Came Bialy” from The Producers, with Baud in the lead role. Which is tricky since I have no idea what Baud looks like.

@Bluegirlfromwyo: Money for lawyers for the inevitable lawsuits. That is a most excellent point.

@Bluegirlfromwyo:
I’m sure that’s why a lot of people aren’t ready to declare victory yet. Until we know just what lawsuits our new Supreme Federalist Society Court will be willing to entertain, who knows whether what would otherwise be a landslide will even translate into a win?
Hopefully Biden’s win will be sufficiently overwhelming that they’ll realize how stupid they’d look if they tried to help the GOP contest this election. Even then, I wouldn’t put it past them to interfere in states with a close Senate race.
WaterGirl
@low-tech cyclist: I agree. The only saving grace is that the chief justice probably does not want to be that blatant.

@Chyron HR: You just know that Orangemandias is gonna gnash his teeth over the fact that all the Hollywood celebs and famous musicians he desperately *wishes* would court him, like his sycophantic low-quality hires do, are instead falling all over themselves to raise money and GOTV for Biden/Harris.
May he stroke out mid-gnash.
@Amir Khalid: Of course they do! Witness Chris Christie’s heartburnings over The Boss being Just Not That Into Him.
