NO EARLY VOTING
Missouri does not offer an early voting period. If you will be unable to vote in person on Election Day, you can request an absentee ballot/mail-in ballot by mail or by visiting your local election office – beginning on Sept 22.
Mississippi does not offer early voting. In Mississippi, the only “early” votes are absentee ballots that are available beginning 45 days before an election, but only for specific excused reasons including the voters knowing that they’ll be out of their home county on Election Day or disability or voters past age 65. College students and members of the armed forces can often vote absentee ballots.
Always check your state and county websites for specific information about voting times and voting locations.
Remember, if you vote – in person or drop it off or put it in the mail – stop by and post a comment in the I Voted post. It’s in the sidebar on computers and in the hamburger menu on mobile.
If you know the first date for early voting, and your state isn’t on one of these lists yet, please let me know in the comments.

I think JPL voted in GA this morning. I’m waiting until tomorrow or Wednesday — and judging by the photos of loooong lines I’ve seen, I think I made the right decision. But it’s heartwarming to see so many people, and I just hope the majority of them are voting to Turn Georgia Blue.

SEP 30-OCT 1, 2020 A/B IBD/TIPP
1,021 LV Biden 49% Trump 46% Biden +3
Same pollster today
OCT 7-11, 2020 A/B IBD/TIPP
851 LV Biden 53% Trump 42% Biden +10 (not sure how Nate gets +10 instead of +11, presumably his magic calculations)
538 now has Biden at +10.6

This is completely misleading.
According to the MD State Board of Elections, early voting in person does not start until Monday, October 26. You could look it up on the official MDSBOE website.
You may have dropped off your mail-in ballot, but you sure as fuck did not “early vote” in person – which AFAICT was the intent of listing states at the top of this thread.

Uncle Cosmo
@WaterGirl: Again, this is misleading. According to the MD State Board of Elections website, early voting in person does not start until October 26.

Redshift
@JanieM: Virginia also technically has “absentee in person.” I suspect that was originally a way to shoehorn it into the state code. The State Board of Elections website just calls it early voting now, so I guess the technical term doesn’t matter much any more.
Chat Noir
Missouri has absentee voting in person at your county elections office (through Nov. 2). If you’re going to be out of your county on Election Day (or for various other reasons), you can vote prior to Election Day.
SiubhanDuinne
@mrmoshpotato: Well, water as it happens in this case. But don’t say anything funny after 5:00 pm.
Maeve
Alaska: first day of early voting is Oct 19. If you vote by the 29th the votes are counted on Election Day.
I am doing early voting in person because it doesn’t require a witness and the ballot is the same type as the Election Day ballot (paper and fill in circles). It’s in court now as to whether witnesses will be required for absentee ballots during the pandemic.
JanieM
@Redshift: I’m not totally sure, and I see that there are some arguments going on, but according to that LWW site I linked, “early voting” is when your vote is counted as soon as you submit it (if you do it in person) or they receive it (if you mail it), whereas for absentee-in-person they don’t count the votes until election night. So it doesn’t matter in terms of one’s own actions, but it does matter in terms of when the votes are counted — which, given all the shenanigans that are likely to go on this Nov. 3, probably matters a lot.
WaterGirl
@Uncle Cosmo: done! thank you.

Yup. Got my absentee request form, but got concerned about the in-person vote tallies Election night. I wanted this household to try to show our blue, to change Iowa’s hue, when the Bill Comes DUE, Donald. (Rather concerned about Election Night *not* being decisive and another Brooks Brothers Riot causing even more chaos, heartburn and you know, just the distinct, all-to-real possibility of the end of our Democracy. Not that absentee or mail-in voting is bad, far from it. Just in *this* case, we have the luxury of risking the in-person vote to help the early appearances come Election Night. I’ve no doubt it all the ballots are counted, this will be a resounding defeat for the ShitGibbon.)

We don’t advertise early in-person voting in this state at all – much more emphasis on VBM which we’ve made as easy as possible. Now I know

I’m here because I can’t stomach reading about or watching the Handmaiden’s Tale hearings in the Senate this week.
Apparently our WA ballots are supposed to be mailed out this week. I told my 17 year old daughter who missed being of voting age by 5 months that she can fill out my ballot. So she is busy researching all the local county commissioner and nonpartisan races (that are really partisan, they just don’t tell you who’s the R and D). Then we’ll drive over and drop it in one of the drop boxes. It is so refreshing to live in a state and city that works to make voting easier. We have 22 ballot drop boxes in our county of just under 500,000 here in the Vancouver WA area. I have at least 5 within a 5 minute drive. They are in front of post offices, schools, government buildings, and the park and ride lots all across the metro area
The WA-3rd Congressional race is starting to heat up here. LOTS of Carolyn Long and Jaime Herrera Beutler ads on TV during the NFL games, which is the only live TV that I watch. The last polls in Sept had Herrera Beutler up by 2 pts. Maybe a blue wave for Biden might carry Long over the top. She is running really good ads compared to Herrera-Beutler. All about growing up poor, living and working in her parents fruit stand and such. Herrera-Beutler is just running lame attack ads about how Long will raise your taxes and coddle Antifa.

@Ruckus: What I don’t get is why everyone seems to be assuming they’re going to be emptying these unofficial drop off boxes into the trash? They almost certainly are planning on submitting most of them (either in the mail or to an actual drop-off location).
They might even be planning on submitting all of them and just using it as a collection points for voters they think will be more sympathetic (thus the R office, Church, gun store, etc locations), but I don’t trust them not to selectively submit or destroy ballots based on their own profiles of the voters in question.

Early voting on Saturday and Sunday in MA are likely to be fucking mobbed.
I plan on driving home past town hall every day next week, to see what the line is like. There needs to be some kind of personal penalty for public officials who refuse to perform their duties despite repeatedly losing in court. Otherwise they will keep pulling this kind of shit: refuse to do it on one grounds, lose, appeal, lose on appeal, refuse to do it on another grounds, lather, rinse, repeat. Particularly in a case like an election, they can run out the clock and thwart the law even if they lose at every turn. At some point, they need to be held in criminal contempt and thrown in jail or something.
FlyingToaster
@KithKanan: I think the problem is that the County is likely to send out equipment to remove/destroy the fake boxes. They won’t submit the contents to the actual drop boxes, since the chain of custody is already contaminated.

@KithKanan:
The republican party in CA is losing and badly. The last election they lost positions they’ve held for a very long time. It has only gotten worse since. They are desperate and they know this is illegal. CA has made voting even easier than it used to be and I’ve lived and voted in other states. I have three polling places and more drop boxes within walking distance, it isn’t necessary and this is a felony. Even if they took every ballot to the county office, they would be invalid ballots. Now CA may count them but they don’t have to. Going to repeat this. It is a felony to do what they are doing, they know it’s wrong and illegal and so I ask, what do they expect to happen? And what do you expect to happen? You are OK with a political party gathering ballots? I’m not, and I wouldn’t be if the democrats were doing this. I’ve had to vote on machines that could easily be fucked with and it pisses me off that republicans feel they need to cheat to win, because it means that they know their policies are wrong, they know they are supporting a very narrow slice of citizens and they know that they want to fuck over a wide swath of citizens. They aren’t doing this out of concern that your vote might not count, they are doing this hopefully that your vote won’t count.

They are hoping to tangle the CA vote in legal shenanigans so CA electors will notbe able to vote on the designated day. Part of the scheme to force the election into the House, where the shitgibbon wins unless we pull off some amazing upsets for Congressional seats in at least 3 different states.

@yellowdog: Thank you. This makes sense, and is the best explanation for primarily evil as opposed to primarily stupid motivations that I’ve seen.

I’m seeing reports on Twitter that various GA early polling locations are facing long lines, broken equipment, etc. Once again, the Republican Powers That Be in charge of the state – and directly or indirectly in charge of the county elections offices – are performing incompetently (intentionally so) with the voting process.

@yellowdog: one quibble. if you are only drinking water and tea, and not eating, that is fasting. unless you put milk or cream in your tea, in which case that is not.

@Yutsano:
Yes it does. A part I really like was when I lived in Marin county. Wealthiest county in CA, 80% democratic. If they can’t get the very wealthy to like/vote for them…..
For example we had a republican fellow running for gov last time. He thought he was going to swoop in from NJ and win us over with his charm and republicanism. He was a typical condescending republican ass and he sent me an email. I replied in my best but cleanest fuck you mode. He sent me a far more condescending email. I replied in my best fuck off asshole mode. He must have gotten a few of those as he sent one more supposedly written by his wife, telling us how terrible and ungrateful we all are about her wonderful husband. I wasted no extraneous non 4 letter words in that reply. Never heard from them again. He lost rather badly. I don’t think they enjoyed their stay in our fine state. Your welcome.
