Let’s give Pelosi the biggest majority we can. Give to the fifteen Democratic challengers running in districts that are listed as toss-ups. When we hit our goal here, I’ll move on to the ones in districts listed as Lean R.
Balloon Juice House Tier 1 (15 Republican held seats that are listed as toss-up)
Money goes to Kate Schroder, Jill Schupp, Cameron Webb, Hiral Tipirneni, Candace Valenzuela, Sri Kulkarni, Christina Hale, Eugene DePasquale, Dana Balter, Jackie Gordon, Wendy Davis, Kara Eastman, Christy Smith, and Amy Kennedy.
You can see all our candidates here.
Elizabelle
Thank you for this, Doug.
I went ahead and donated directly to Dr. Cameron Webb (Virginia’s 5th District; young black physician up against a God-botherer from Liberty U; the district’s GOP kicked the incumbent lunatic to the curb for insufficient conservatism).

Thank you DougJ! There are some excellent candidates in this group!
Several of these candidates are supported by EMILY’s List. To look them up easily, Google “[Name] Emily’s list”.
Ballotpedia is also a good source of information on candidates, although it sometimes has odd search algorithms.

In for $25. I’ve been lurkily using Balloon Juice’s ActBlue links for years. Feels good!
DougJ
Thanks everybody!

I’m no schoolboy but I know what I like
Thanks, Doug.

I hope you get in nice ambassadorship for all your great work.
Aleta
Pick Canada DougJ you won’t have to move. Also you can help me get across the border in yr limo with dip. immunity.
PS Donating again. (Hope that helps my chances.)
John S.
@Baud: Is there an ambassadorship to Jersey or maybe Geurnsey? Faroe Island perhaps?
Skepticat
I do proofreading for the campaign of one of these candidates, so I’m sending a bit back to her. I’ve been heartened by the number of strong women candidates.
Amir Khalid
I wasn’t expecting to see Brown Sugar quoted in reference to Nancy Pelosi. Well done!
sempronia
I donated to Ammar Campa-Najjar, who’s running in CA-50 against the odious Daryl Issa. He almost won last time in a ruby-red district when his opponent got indicted. They’re running neck and neck now. It’s California, so we’ve got a good majority, but wondering if it’s worth putting up a thermometer for this race. Getting rid of Daryl Issa would be nice, and like Doug said, we can give Nancy a bigger margin.
RaflW
Just kicked in a decent amount. Also going to suggest that folks watch this short video from the GOP leader in Kansas. She says very plainly that she has a plan to redistrict KS so that all four US House seats are GOP. It’s vile.
Juicers have been giving to Bollier. Keep it up, she’ll be needed to veto this crap. (I’m also giving to Michelle De La Isla, KS-02 candidate, even if she’s a bit of a long shot in an R+10 run. Fuck these Republicans!)
evap
done! I just kicked in another $100. Does money this late in the game really make a difference? Inquiring minds want to know…
RaflW
@RaflW: Oops. My bad. Bollier of course is running for Senate. KS will have to rely on Gov. Kelly to veto any tortured district maps.
@evap: I hope Doug will weigh in, but my view is that campaigns make plans based on projections of how the money will keep rolling in. If the funds don’t show, they may have to scale back, or take on late-cycle debt that sucks to fundraise for after an election.

This is excellent.

Miss Lindsay last night:
“I care about everybody. If you’re a young African American, an imigrant, you can go anywhere in this State, you just need to be a conservative, not liberal.”

I’m sure the South Carolina Tourism board is thrilled with that statement!

@Elizabelle: I was just reading about Webb the other day! Guy is both a doctor AND a lawyer! His opponent calls himself a “biblist”, which I guess means Bible-ist, and primaried the GOP incumbent for officiating at the same sex wedding of a couple of his staffers. Going to donate to Webb too.
Elizabelle
@JoyceH:
Thank you! I was heartened to drive through Webb’s district a few weeks back (Virginia wine country and rolling hills, among other areas — Liberty U Lynchburg, too) and was heartened to see a lot of Webb signs. And then — Abigail Spanberger signs as I drove closer to home.
And — last week: the Eastern shore of Virginia, with Elaine Luria signs aplenty.

I split it and sent my donation to DePasquale who’s running to unseat Scott Perry, who was my Rep until the PA ungerrymander.
Yutsano
@Ascap_scab: For some reason that video won’t load for me. I totally believe he said it, I just want to hear the smarmy tone.
Renie
Thanks for having Jackie Gordon on your list. She’s running for the seat Peter King held for way too long. So glad he retired and hopefully my district will have a great representative going forward.
Yutsano
@Renie: I just hope my fireplug man crush Max Rose wins on Staten Island again. He’s REALLY funny (and foul mouthed!) when he’s not being scripted.
opiejeanne
Thank you, Doug J. I would like you to add Kim Schrier, WA 8, to your fund raising efforts. She’s a Dem in a seat that had been red for years, and Republicans have targeted her. She was elected in 2018 and we’d like to keep that seat blue.
Ivan X
I just opened up a shiny new credit card with a big spending bonus on it, so that I can give a bunch of money to all the BJ thermometers, and as a good American capitalist get something back for it.
Here’s a question I have for DougJ and all you Juicers: of the BJ candidates, who, strategically, needs a little extra cash love? Like there are a bunch of Senate seats, and I’m gonna give to all of them, but who’s in a real close fight, or otherwise would benefit from extra consideration? And should I give more to the group thermometers, like this one?
frosty
@Ivan X: My take for a close race that needs the money and is the best bang for the buck is Alaska Senate.
trnc
@Ascap_scab: I don’t mean to single you out because I know it’s really common, but can we drop the Miss Lindsay thing? We all know he’s a closeted gay man working to destroy gay rights, but it still smacks of intolerance and doesn’t really add a lot to the discussion (IMHO).
Thanks.
JPL
@Ivan X: GA special election has 21 candidates and it appears that Democratic Warnock will have enough votes for a run off. Save some money then because he’ll be going against a very wealthy candidate.

@trnc: I think those of us who are straight should definitely avoid using the “Miss Lindsay thing”.
Cheryl from Maryland
@Elizabelle: Same here. Good fortune to you Dr. Webb!
sdhays
@Mary G: Good for him, but damn, that’s fucked up.
sdhays
@RaflW: This was brought up before. The real threat is the Republican super-majorities in the Kansas legislature that mean Republicans can override the governor’s veto. They need to pick up, I think, 4 seats to break the super-majority.
4 votes just to break the super-majority makes me kind of sick.
Reboot
@Cheryl from Maryland: Likewise–he’s the next district over from mine. I think at this point he’s slightly ahead of Good!

Also – despite my love for Jimmy Miller/Mick Taylor era Stones, I have to say that Brown Sugar is a racist and misogynist piece of trash that I hope I never have to hear again.
Ruckus
@sdhays:
My understanding is it’s just one to break the supermajority but more is always better – sets the bar much higher to overcome next time.
PJ
@Yutsano: He’s also very conservative, but it’s better to have a conservative Dem in Staten Island than the alternative.
Quinerly
Who’s watching this Trump Event? MSNBC just cut away since he was lying so much in first 5 mins
3 rallies now scheduled this week. FL, PA, Iowa.
JoyceH
What’s the weather like? I’m about 90 miles south of there and it’s raining here.
sdhays
@Ruckus: Oh, I’m probably remembering that are 4 potential pickups.

@Formerly disgruntled in Oregon: Claudia Lennear is Brown Sugar
Watch her jam with Leon Russel and Kathi McDonald.

And I’m feeling the urge to post a PSA – guys, HUNKER the eff DOWN! The fall surge is upon us! Now is not the time to slacken off on pandemic safeguards. Double the guard! Work remotely if you can. Mask up constantly if you can’t. No restaurants, no bars, no movie theaters. Avoid your Republican friends and relatives. Stay ALIVE!
I saw an epidemiologist on TV the other day say the fall surge is here and we could be in the midst of the explosion of new infections right now and we wouldn’t know it for two weeks.
Oh, but be sure to get your early vote in, in person (masks, masks!) or by mail. Since the GOP has decided that in person voting on election day is Republican Virtue Signaling on par with going maskless, the way we win this election is simply outliving the bastards.

I love the “to inform Mick Jagger of his dispensability” quote!

@JoyceH: clear there. I only saw 5 mins. Big crowd. MSNBC cut away as I said. He only spoke 16 mins.

@sdhays: the indefatigable Charles Gaba has a Kansas Lege donation page. I’ve hit it twice. Less than $600 to go on his goal there. (I have three cousins in KS, and my dad, uncle and paternal grands are buried there).

Weak! Sad!
Elizabelle
@JoyceH: My 20-something neighbor contact informed me this week that she’s awaiting COVID test results. She attended a wedding in coastal NC last weekend, and — surprise, surprise — the bride has come up COVID positive.
My neighbor is quarantining. Took her and her boyfriend donuts this morning. And I am out and about in a mask, always, on limited errands.
Did not have extended contact with neighbor, but a few moments here and there, outside mostly, but sometimes within 4 feet or so of each other. Maskless. In front of our homes. SO: I take that COVID contact seriously. I appreciate tremendously that she warned me.

Good news if true. I hope they spread any excess around in their states where it can do some good.

@Formerly disgruntled in Oregon:
OK.
How about Mister Overseer Lindsey, then?
Comrade Colette Collaboratrice
@Elizabelle: Thanks for the heads-up about Dr. Webb. I just donated directly to him.
My congressperson is Nancy Pelosi (long may she SMASH!), so I’m happy to give where it will have more bang for the buck.
WaterGirl
@Comrade Colette Collaboratrice: @Elizabelle:
If you click the BJ thermometer above, you can choose the split, which means everything you donate can go directly to Webb if you assign your whole donation to him rather than splitting it.
