Once again, the Squatter-in-Chief has invited his biggest fans to do whatever they want… which is to intimidate people in the name of White supremacy. On the positive side, at least even the least discerning pundit can no longer pretend they don’t know what Trump might be encouraging…
Really unfair of the moderator to spring that gotcha question on Trump about whether or not Nazis are bad.

Step Two: send them to the polls to stir up trouble.
Step Three: when fighting starts, send in police to close the polls.
Step Four: disqualify the process as being too chaotic. https://t.co/4W9G0davJ1

I think what frightens me most about the situation is that one of the things that might help save us from Trump’s evil is Trump’s stupidity.
Villago Delenda Est
These assholes need the sort of treatment that the guards of newly liberated concentration camps got in Germany in 1945.

I might note that the “Storm Troopers” were an elite element of the Imperial German Army in WWI. Somehow, in the 30’s, Nazi thugs coopted the name and “Storm Troopers” have forever been associated with fascist movements, even though they’re untrained and undisciplined, unlike their namesake in the Imperial German Army.

@germy: There was a reason Michelle Obama included ‘vote early, in person if possible’ in her convention speech. It wasn’t an ad lib. I think Biden said something similar last night.
I think there is a real push to lock in as much early vote as possible by Dems. Many states start verifying, processing and/or counting mail votes long before election day, and that process will be hard to stop, even by Trump’s fixed up SCOTUS
Edit: and from what I’ve read, despite Trump’s toxic threats to democracy and validity of mail voting, GOP state parties are pushing it. Apparently they think it is important for them. I wonder how solid the GOP voters’ stated intention of voting in person really is. I’d bet the state and local parties know better than anyone. Also, I wonder how much Trump campaign money problems are eating into GOTV funds. State GOPers will have to fill in gaps in campaign spending, and how much of that will come out of their GOTV? GOP billionaires are stepping up, I’ve read, but not enough to make a big dent in the gaping hole the Trump crime machine dug.
Edit2: and also, I’ve read GOP GOTV strategy is to contact voters early, which may not be the most effective strategy, might be better to contact them when GOTV is ready to help them to get their vote in. That leaves less time to fill in the money gap. Anyway, Trump is Trump and he doesn’t give a damn what his antics do to the rest of the party and its plans for getting the vote in, which is a good thing.

The Proud Boys aren’t Trump’s Storm Troopers. They’re more like the Brown Shirts (and it didn’t end well for them).

That’s kind of wild to have that big a crowd in Greensburg. That’s Westmoreland County and about as Trumpy a place as you’ll ever find. Wonder if my niece went. A new record! 49 Biden signs on a 30-minute walk vs. the same 2 puny Trump signs. A couple Biden signs were missing since previous counts, so there could have been 51 or 52. I walked this same route just a couple of days ago, when the count was 45.

NBC Nightly news is being kind to trump, but he won’t realize that. They are only pointing out who the proud boys are and what happened in Charlottesville, and showing Biden’s comments today. Now onto his comments about the election.

It’s not even Holy Shit which is one of my terms. Decades ago a mom called because her son blessed his shit like me. She said I bet it’s from the little brat next door, and sheepishly I said probably not. Her son is a Methodist minister these days so still blesses shit.

Yesterday we had a realtor do a video walk through of a house we would like to buy. It’s on a cul de sac, and we asked her to first look around to see if any of the neighbors had tRump signs in their yards, because that’s darn close to a deal breaker. There were Biden/Harris signs, no tRump signs. We made an offer today.
Humanities Prof
@Mike S (Now with a Democratic Congressperson!): We live in a very red country in Ohio (registered Republicans in our county have a more than 3:1 advantage over registered Democrats).
It was wall-to-wall Trump country in ’16. There were maybe 3 Clinton signs in our neighborhood, including ours.
We took a walk with the dogs last night. This year is a totally different story. At least in our neighborhood, yard signs are pretty close to a 50/50 split, and we might actually have seen more Biden and Biden-Harris signs than T/P signs.
Weirdest one was the folks who have a flagpole with an American flag, Trump banner flying beneath it–and two Biden-Harris signs stuck into the ground on either side of the flagpole, along with a “We believe black lives matter sign.” Still SMDH trying to figure that one out….

For years Republicans have claimed there’s no point raising taxes on billionaires, because there’s so few of them that it wouldn’t raise that much money. Guess what, it turns out the same is true of political fundraising! The party that gets $10 from 40 million people out-raises the one that relies on $10 million from 20 people.

@Peale: Jeni’s has a seasonal cherry cordial brand which is to die for. I had it once in a restaurant but have yet to see it in the freezer section of my friendly Kroger store. It. Is. So. Good. If you ever see it buy about 20 pints. Those should last you a couple of weeks.

@Humanities Prof: I’ve seen very few Trump or Biden signs in Cincinnati. I’ve seen far more signs for the local elections. The greatest number of Biden and BLM signs I’ve seen are in one of Cincinnati’s wealthiest neighborhoods. I live in what is called a “changing” neighborhood 5 minutes from downtown. Incomes vary widely and our population is very diverse thank goodness. Sad to say I saw 3 Trump signs on my street.
Ken
@Cheryl Rofer: Maybe it’s one of those words where the meaning in Castilian Spanish differs from that in Mexico.
I remember a (possibly-apocryphal) story of a missionary who got caught that way, using a verb that according to his dictionary meant “take, seize” but in the local dialect was the f-bomb.

If the proud boys support the moronic Kenosha shooter, they’re far more dangerous than I would have expected.
If *ANYONE* can call the Kenosha shooter anything other than a complete frickin’ moron (or, the same, but using stronger language), they’re either evil, stupid, or both.
Guns are tools, okay? And you pick the right tool for the job. If you saw someone with a 20 pound sledgehammer, and they said they needed to drive a small nail, to hang a small picture, on the wall, you’d call them a moron.
Imagine this: you’re going into a crowded area – there might be dozens of people nearby.
Why would you bring a rifle that fires high velocity rounds? You don’t shoot at things unless you know your target and backstop, and in that situation THERE IS NO BACKSTOP, so you DO NOT bring a rifle that could kill someone a hundred yards away, in order to protect property.
Why not? BECAUSE YOU DON’T EVER USE LETHAL FORCE TO PROTECT ORDINARY PROPERTY FROM PEOPLE 10s OF YARDS AWAY.
And if you’re going to be protecting yourself or property from people 10s of feet away, a handgun or shotgun is a better choice.
I can have some basic respect for someone who trains with actual thought in the use of guns and tactics. I remember the movie Tremors, where the survivalist pair are more than a bit over-the-top, but I loved how Mr. Survivalist checked the 6-gun he handed to the kid to give him some dutch courage. (It’s good discipline – when you accept a weapon, check its load state. But it also goes back to an old joke about gun safety: “guns load themselves around stupid people – like, those who don’t check the load state when taking control of them.”)
I don’t have any respect for someone who thinks having a rifle known to shoot high velocity rounds means you’re a badass, or who treats it as a toy, or worse, uses it to “make a statement” (talk about the wrong use of a tool!).

@Ken: There are an alarming number of these. Spanish is a very widely-distributed language and a lot of words that are innocuous in one place are wildly obscene in others.
I once was looking at a translation guide for business software and there was something like a three-page table for Spanish saying NEVER USE THESE WORDS EVER and my grade-school Spanish said that a great many of those words were various synonyms for “to take” or “to have”.
And, you know, both of those kind of are the F-Bomb even in English if you waggle your eyebrows hard enough while saying them…
