Steve’s cat cave was delivered today, and I am not exaggerating when I say that THREE minutes after I put it on the floor this happened:
He got in there so fast it was freakish. Although apparently I am going to need a bigger one:
Remember, Lily was raised in a trailer with 20 cats, so she does as they do.
Josie
Are you sure he’s really a cat? I thought they never liked stuff that was bought specifically for them.
jl
Thanks for cute petpix.
The first one looked as though Steve might be doing it merely as courtesy to his Dear Leader.
But the second one is of a very pleased cat.
Ken
What’s giving the purple lighting? Halloween decorations?
(And don’t tell me it’s not Halloween yet. Walgreens, Menards, and the other stores have had the stuff up for two weeks.)
jl
@Josie: That is why I was skeptical of the first pic. But once in a while, very odd things do happen with cats. Such as actually liking what you get for them.
John Cole
@Ken: huesync lighting matches my screen when I have a game loaded

Bitsy got eated but she got better.
MomSense
Awww, Steve is such a good kitty.
After you posted the photo of the cat cave the other night I looked up how to make them and found some interesting videos of the process on YouTube. I’ve wet felted slippers before but always started with a giant knit slipper that shrinks with the felting. These are made with wool that is not spun into yarn and lots of water, soap and working by hand.
WaterGirl
I forget how much Lily weighs, but she probably would fit in the cat cave. Cole will definitely need two, at least. Probably 3, aren’t you supposed to have one more of everything than you have pets that will use something?
dr. bloor
Do they have one of those for a 130 lb hu–er, kitteh?
Asking for a friend’s pet.
UncleEbeneezer
Our animals always seem to ignore stuff like this for at least a month, just out of spite. Then they will embrace/love them forever after. But only after a 1-3 month probationary period.
RobertDSC-Work
I hope you didn’t break down the box it came in. He’ll love that, too.
Steeplejack
Secure cat is secure!

@Josie:
They always prefer the box it came in.
WaterGirl
@jeffreyw: ha!

At first glance, I thought a sarlacc was eating Steve.
lollipopguild
“Open the pod bay door, Steve.”
?BillinGlendaleCA
@John Cole: Oh, I thought you got the deluxe cat cave with accent lighting.
jl
@lollipopguild: I’m glad Cole has mellowed and he doesn’t think this is some sinister plot by his pets to kill and eat him. But don’t give Cole any ideas.
Morzer
@lollipopguild:
“I’m sorry, John. I’m afraid I can’t do that.”
Morzer
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Maybe the deluxe cat cave is the one with the integrated cat launcher?
Major Major Major Major
Aww, totes adorbs. I’ve always wondered if Samwise would like one of those…

Now I want to buy one, but my two wouldn’t even use the hooded litter box because I might shut them up in it and make them ride in the car. I have an armchair my mom bought used in the late 60s or early 70s; the back cushion is filled with real goose down. They knocked it down and sleep together on the back of that cushion. No human ever sits in it anyway so I let them have at it. If company comes we just flip the cushion back up to hide all the hair. That hasn’t been a problem since March.

We picked up Lil Bit from the Vet Med Hospital. The ultrasound and needle confirmed there is liver and pancreatic cancer so now we’re trying to decide what to do. We are in the palliative care phase with a bunch of meds and thought, if she’d eat, it would be ok to hang in there for a while longer. It’s a dilemma most pet owners will face.
R-Jud
I want one of these for the Montster. He needs a safe space from his shitty, pushy little sister.

@raven:
Raven, I’m so sorry. I know how much you love Lil Bit and how hard this is for you. Sending big hugs. Please give her some belly rubs from me.

They always seem to know.

@raven: I am so sorry for your family and wish you all good days of love and companionship.

Haha, especially with that lighting!

Man, I know how hard this is. My thoughts are with you, the princess and the pooches. ?

So sorry Lil Bit, you, and your bride are in this situation.

@jl:
Cats, “courtesy?” I doubt it.

@raven: Very sorry to hear that.
Major Major Major Major
@raven: Oh, no. Hang in there.
UncleEbeneezer
@raven: So sorry to hear that. We just lost our dog Juniper a month ago and the last month and especially the final week, were just like that. It sucks. Be good to them, do your best, try not to beat yourself up too bad and enjoy/savor the remaining time.
Mary G
@raven: She’ll let you know when it’s time. Fuck cancer.
Princess Leia
@raven: Sending love and peace as you walk down this hard road.
raven
Thanks again ya’ll.

@Josie:
My cousin Marilyn’s wife got one for their cat and the same thing happened. I’m getting one for my Cleo for Christmas.
Elizabelle
@raven: You and your bride are in my thoughts. I know you will do right by Lil Bit. Eating and her demeanor will tell you, as you know.
I hope Lil Bit has some comfortable time left. You know what a good life she has had with you.
C Stars
Put that whole package in a box and mail it to me, plz.
I’m getting so desperate for animal luvs that I chased a stray around our backyard yesterday while trying to tempt him with a plate of tuna.
(He went for it, but hasn’t been back since. Maybe not a stray.)
realbtl
@raven: Sorry to hear this I’ve enjoyed your stories about your critters.
oldster
John, you hit a kitty home run with this purchase. I’m so glad for you, and for Steve, too, who may be especially grateful for the extra shelter because of his temporarily denuded state.
Raven, I am so sorry to hear. We lost our little Cavalier this spring, at 15, and I still miss the little guy. He wasted away over the last weeks, but died with all of his gallant feathers flying.

Sorry to hear the final diagnosis has been confirmed. You have worked hard taking care of Lil Bit for a long time, and I know puppy’s grateful for that.
You take care now.
Blackcatsrule
@raven: I am so sorry. I went through a cancer diagnosis for my sweet gentle kitty barely two months ago. I am still gutted by it. I am sending you and yours all good thoughts.
CliosFanBoy
@raven: Oh, I am so sorry. :(
Lymie
@raven: sorry, raven, I know what you are going through. I always thought I owed them as long as they were eating, pooping, and not in pain. But if the treatment was painful, I wouldn’t do much of that.
CarolPW
@raven: Completely sucks, and I am so very sorry. At least you have already figured out something she likes to eat. Love on her for us please; I suspect this one is tough for plenty of people at BJ besides me. All my energy to you and your princess while completing this stage of her life with you. Fuck.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@raven: So sorry, I know the feeling.
Domestic short hair tabby
@raven: very sorry to hear this, raven.
Benw
@raven: sorry, man, that sucks
frosty
@raven: I had one that reached the end stages that weren’t a clear yes or no that the time had come. Based on my conversations with the vet, he would have ended it a week or two before I would have. Based on my experience with my pup, I would have gone a week or so more. It’s very, very difficult. Use your judgement but listen to the vet, and make the most of the days that you have left.
raven
Aw thanks again!

Ugh. One of mine (cats, not dogs, but same principle) came down with a spindle cell cancer that was spreading ridiculously rapidly. He lost (surgically) his entire front left arm, up to and including the shoulder blade, which gave him a year of good life, but then the cancer came back, in his chest this time. Still, he made it to age 17, more or less (was never quite sure of his age: he was about a year old when I got him).
At least with the chest cancer it was clear when it was time. The ones with kidney issues were trickier. I waited too long with one of them… it’s hard.
(My current crop of kitties are getting well into senior years, but so far only one is showing some kidney issues. I have no direct experience with pancreatic and liver cancer animals, but just generally, yeah, watch the appetite.)
rikyrah
Steve looks, dare I say it, adorable in his new digs :)
