We need a new thread.

I know we’ve seen this little “panda” before, but I think she’s so adorable that I keep an open browser tab with her in it.
Update:
Baud
I’m not sure what there is left to say after that.
Ken
Didn’t we already have this hamster?
Then again, I shouldn’t complain. I just realized that I’ve not seen any new “did you hear what he’s done now” today. Small blessings, but still….
trollhattan
Living the life, is that hamster.
WaterGirl
I just added the YouTube I was in the middle of watching. I know I had to add it as soon as I got to the part where he says “My wife, Mylanta”.
LuciaMia
We know Trumps bonehead comment on a previous California fire ( they should have swept the forest floor) and his opinions on Californians in general (‘they didn’t vote for me so screw em!’)
But gee, considering whats going on in the state now you’d think the President would make SOME kind of statement.
WaterGirl
@Baud: They complain if there’s not a new thread.
They complain when you put up a thread that just says “We need an open thread.”
They complain if you put up an adorable hamtster that they have seen before.
No good deed goes unpunished. :-)
update: Just razzing you all.

Seems that there’s a new pair of polls out from Marist showing Trump tied or even 1 point ahead in Florida. Fairly small sizes and a 3.9% margin of error. Not sure how seriously to take them. Maybe our native Floridians could weigh in? My own intuition is that Florida is going to be close, but will ultimately go for Biden.
Ken
Welcome to the Trump era.

@LuciaMia: More so when most of the fires are in US national forrests.

So we just finished the first day of online school here. It’s gonna be a doozy of a year. Teacher was almost in tears about 15 minutes in due to technical issues and trying to shepherd 26 kids in varying circumstances. Think of all those zoom spoofs x 10. We made it through the day, but by the end, she was moving into complete frustration and irritation. Hopefully tomorrow will be better
JPL
@LuciaMia: I lost you at you would think
debbie
@LuciaMia:
Nope. Where CA is concerned, Trump is always rooting for injuries.

@WaterGirl: LOL, I’m going to reuse that.

@WaterGirl:
The hamster reminds me of the old Beatrix Potter book covers. Ignore the scurvy carking of the ungrateful among us!

Absentee ballots arrived in the mail today, and we plan on filling them out and returning them ASAP.

@WaterGirl:
I demand new hamsters!
WaterGirl
@Morzer: I ?that mouse with her little purse, munching on carrots.
oops, I mean panda.

@Ken: Here’s one. It looks like the DOJ is trying to take over the defense of Trump in the rape case. Arrrrrrrrrgh

What a goddamned liar that spokeswoman is. Trump administration lack of quality.

First time I saw the Trump impersonator’s video, I thought he was lip syncing, because it sounded just like Trump.
Benw
Great, now I need a panda hat and a carrot purse. Thanks a lot, Watergirl
;)
WaterGirl
@Baud: ?
Ken
So around January 25, the DOJ changes the plea to guilty?
Elizabelle
I love that hamster with the purse and carrots.
Would not mind seeing that dear little face monthly. Moar frontpage hamsters.

@WaterGirl: It seems that you are loaded for … hamster? I wonder when the “Post ten consecutive threads with hamster pics” achievement is going to be unlocked…
WaterGirl
@Benw: MomSense can for sure knit the hat! Wolvesvalley can surely make the purse.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
@Morzer: It’s Floriduh, assuming the polls are correct Trump will win because of shere dumassry. Remember lots of retired voters there who are immune to Trump’s nonsense.

@Morzer: I do enjoy a good challenge!

It’s like Hamster PornHub.

CNN showing live pix from Trumps N. Carolina campaign stop. People packed in and not a mask in sight. Hope some of these people arent counting on waiting for in-person voting.

It seems that Becki is the smart one. But we all knew that, right?

Twitter has a lot more right wing troll bots lately. Their English is better so I think they work for Pascale. They’ve been all up in my mentions. june-August 2020 start dates and 1-4 followers, sometimes more. Someone has some money.

Sorry Mr. Funny Voice Man, Trump’s not smart enough to know how to use sarcasm.

Posted late in last thread, posting here againg for more eyes
Ok, so my officialy t/f date for Houston is Oct 4th. I have to register tovote in Texas at least 30 before voting starts.
Early voting in Louisiana doesn’t start until Oct 20. I’m going to Houston this weekend to hopefully look at a couple more apartments. I’d like to sign a lease for an apartment before moving my stuff, but not sure if that’ll happen anytime before the 1st of Oct!
If I do lease an apartment in Texas, my last day at the NOLA lab is Sept 18, but technially my job transfer won’t take effect until Oct 4th. I’ve already did my 30 day notice for my NOLA apt, but that lease won’t be up until Oct 2th.
Ugh…I guess, soon as I get an apt lease in Texas (hopefully before Oct 1), I’ll submit a voter registration form, ASAP and hope it’s processed by election day…ugh
Update: I’m emailing my relocation consultant today to see if they have some idea of what I can do, but I doubt they do much in that area, they mostly focus on moving and stuff but might as well try
NotMax
Ooh, reruns?
A fave. Even with the spelling error.
:)
WaterGirl
@Baud: I have never seen any PornHub, which I assume is a real thing, so any resemblance to that is totally coincidental.

Never have been very fond of the hamster.
More than 50 years ago I held out my finger to my buddies hamster’s nose only have have it mistaken for a carrot.
The wound was deep, painful, and bled like crazy.
lamh36
WHAT.DEE.FUQ.!!!
Aleta
Carrots are Divine ?
WaterGirl
@NotMax: I had never seen that one! Is that for real?
Where’s the typo? I couldn’t be sure there was an apostrophe in “I’m”, but I doubt that was it.
WaterGirl
@lamh36: The DOJ has boundary issues.
I thought that was a typical family dysfunction, but they have clearly lost the plot.
TS (the original)
@Lapassionara:
But of course, the campaign has run out of money & you surely don’t expect trump to pay for his own defence.
NotMax
@WaterGirl
Missing R in embarrassing.

@lamh36:
I’m in Ohio, but when I moved shortly before the election, they told me to go vote at the Board of Elections. It was a regular vote, not a provisional one.

For those people who have been to Rocky MTN NP, the fire next door exploded to 100k acres yesterday. The snow and rain we’re now getting may just save the northern part of the park.

@NotMax: I didn’t read that far! I got the idea from the first part so I didn’t need to read to the end.
If we’re pulling out oldies, someone needs to find that awesome sign (Betty’s, I think) where they used a whole bunch of apostrophes wrong – none where there should be some, and some where there shouldn’t be.
lamh36
@debbie: deadline to register in Texas is Oct 5 for the Nov 3rd election.
Soon as I get an address I can submit my VR, but like I said, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find an aprt before Oct 1. Which will be pushing it for sure.
If I can get a lease by hopefully before the end of September, then I can submit the registration ASAP once getting to houston. and hopefully it doesn’t take more than 30 days (fingers crossed)

@lamh36:
What about the ACLU – they usually have a really good rundown of voting laws.
WaterGirl
@Benw: It really is.
WaterGirl
@lamh36: You might want to do everything you can in person, that will help shorten the turnaround time. But you have probably already thought of that!
WaterGirl
@MomSense: I volunteered you to knit the panda hat for Benw. Just thought I should let you know. :-)
Ken
Sort of. It turns out that porn, like laundry detergent, is an oligopoly (link is safe-ish – it’s Cracked, which is where I go for news after Balloon Juice).
Morzer
@WaterGirl: So does that mean that Betty Cracker is the Carrot Supply Officer?
Elizabelle
@lamh36: I wonder if you might want to vote in Louisiana, just for convenience’s sake.
That is putting a lot of trust in Texas, which may not deserve it.
What happens if it’s October 6 and you still do not have a lease?
Can you register with the address of a Texas friend or relative?
Can you rent a mailbox and use its street address? FWIW, I did not have a physical address while I was traveling for a long spell, and used my PO Box as my legal address. Which was fine with Virginia.
What happens to all the COVID evictees in Texas, who might be doubling up with relatives. Are they suddenly unable to vote, or to register?
planetjanet
@lamh36: Check with your local elections office. I believe there is a 30 day window, as in you may still vote in Louisiana if you have lived there within in the last thirty days.
Checked online and Louisiana allows you to vote absentee if you moved out of your parish less than 30 days from the election and you moved more than 100 miles.

@TS (the original):
Worse than that. They’re proposing to act as a legal shield for Donald J. Trump.
Apparently “the scope of his office or employment” includes lying about his behavior before he was president to protect his reputation.

As much as I wanna say “fuck off” to the people of Lake Charles who voted for Trump at 61% and who are represented by Clay Higgins but I can’t.
This is just another sad example of how badly our government has been damaged by 40 years og GOP bullshit.

@WaterGirl:

@HumboldtBlue:
actually, they only occasionally vote for democratic governors, usually after a huge scandal in the GOP admin.

Sadly true

@LuciaMia: When it hits 121 degrees in the San Fernando Valley, there’s only one thing Trump could say: “I always believed in the science of climate change, which was never remotely a “hoax”, and we must do whatever we have to to end carbon emissions much sooner than anyone thinks.”
So obviously….
zhena gogolia
@WaterGirl:
He says in the comments that his Obama is rusty. Then someone replies that he’s doing an Obama impersonator, not Obama, so it’s okay.
