Next week a Democrat will send an email or get a hair-cut and everyone will forget that Trump called fallen soldiers losers and suckers.
So let’s make hay while we can by raising money for Democratic Senate candidates.
Lots of requests recently for Bullock and Greenfield, so let’s do them.
Theresa Greenfield, Iowa Senate
Steve Bullock, Montana Senate
You can see all our candidates and party organizations here.

Hoping Bullock can pull it off – Montana feels like one of those states where Cheeto is probably quite a bit less popular than he is in other rural states. I also hope that Montana Dems can beat that jerkoff Gianforte in the governor’s race (again).

Thanks, DougJ. Tossed a coin to each candidate.

Since I’m watching “Deadwood” again (an annual tradition), I can’t help but wonder if Steve Bullock is any relation of Seth “Montana” Bullock’s.//

Wasn’t Labor Day supposed to be Mitch McConnell’s cutoff for allowing Senate candidates to cut loose from Trump if the Trump poll numbers didn’t improve? I’m guessing they’ll all come up with some kind of reason to stick with Trump (like using Gallup for before- and Rasmussen for after-polls), but no way senate candidates run against (or even without supporting) Trump
mrmoshpotato
@Keith P.:
Some kind of reason like the entire Russthuglican party being the Kremlin’s bitches. (Voters too.)
jonas
Anyone know how Doug Jones is doing in AL? Earlier in the summer he and Tuberville were pretty close, but a poll in early August showed that Tuberville has since pulled ahead with a pretty commanding lead. Is this just AL reverting to the mean (= beet red), or is Jones just not getting the support he needs? It was always going to be an uphill battle for Jones to keep that seat, but I do wish it were closer at this point.
Haroldo
Done and done.

Did I miss a new e-mail scandal, or are these still the butter e-mails?
Yutsano
@jonas:Down by 10 in the latest. But I wonder if Tuberville will get to the Senate and find out it’s a totally different skill set than what he has.
PsiFighter37
@Yutsano: Didn’t stop him from starting a hedge fund and fleecing investors. In the Senate, he will just be doing the fleecing on behalf of whatever big corporations tell him to do.
different-church-lady
Soldiers and their families will remember. Vividly.
Calouste
@Yutsano: What, do you think Tuberville can’t read the voting instructions McConnell will send him every day? Because that’s all the skills a GOP Senator needs. Well, that and repeating the latest conspiracy theories off the internet if he is in a committee hearing.
raven
@different-church-lady: Don’t count on it.
cmorenc
Recall what legendary hardball campaigner Lyndon Johnson said about planting a rumor that his opponent had a fetish for fucking pigs: whether its true or not, i want to make the motherfucker have to deny it (ie thereby reinforcing the image of the story in the public mind).
That dynamic is much more powerful when the allegation is consistent with what the public already knows about the opponent – trumps quite public trash-talk about john mcCain is coming back to haunt his attempted denials of the atlantic story and ditto trumps dissing of the khan family whose son died in combat
Brachiator
@raven:
People can be reminded. Trump has failed citizens at home, letting them die from the virus. He demonstrates a callous indifference towards those who choose to defend this country, and discounts the sacrifice of those who have given their lives.
Trump condemns himself.
The tally keeps growing.

Thanks for the link to the all-BJ page. I’ve been feeling itchy about using this moment to mobilize money, since Republicans are looking a tad more vulnerable now than a week ago. I’ve given to a few Dems today!
I want to bump Raphael Warnock (the BJ actblue is here). It’s a serious worry for me. First two past the post go to the runoff. Current polling has a GOP in the top spot & second spot, with Warnock a very close third (w/in margin of error I’d think), and another Dem fourth. I know open races are hard to get a team approach, but this was going to be a hard — but not at all impossible — seat to flip. Dems splitting the vote and as a result sitting out the runoff would be a foolish tragedy.

@Calouste: “shitgibbon is now calling for the dismissal of the Fox reporter who confirmed the story”
This is part of what I don’t get about our ridiculous press — in particular the bothsides sunk cost morons on TV. Do they think that in a Trump second term* he won’t find ways of nationalizing, shutting down, or having his cronies buy up (at corruptly manipulated discount prices as their licenses are threatened) their networks?
Do they really not get that this is for all the marbles?

Something seems off about that headline, but I hope Trump is able to save the Stars and Stripes from the Pentagon.

People like Wolf Blitzer will still be decrying shrillness and discourtesy when the black uniformed thugs come to drag him out of the studio into a re-education camp.
RaflW
@Yutsano: Unfortunately for Doug Jones and 2020, Alabama will require a long-term investment in registering and mobilizing Black voters. But that’s also the good news longer term.
White Alabamans, will likely me more conservative than the median American for the foreseeable future. But the state is only 65% white, so if the POC vote can be protected & motivated in a post-SCOTUS Voting Rights shitscape, I think it would only take a small percent allied white vote (there are urban and more-liberal whites in AL, just not nearly enough) to move AL politics a fair bit.
Brachiator
@raven:
I suggest that people post Trump’s deficiencies on Twitter and Facebook. Use it in replies to Trump supporter friends.
We’ve got 2 months to go. There is not much point in whining about the media cycle.
Calouste
@RaflW: Yep, they just keep pushing and pushing the boundaries. Forcing TikTok to sell is where we’re currently at, but that will keep moving. Once they got enough people on board that they can take out a Chinese company under the excuse of national security, they’ll move on to other foreign companies, and the American companies.
It’s not like the Nazis started by invading France and sending Jews to the gas chambers. They started by sending troops into the demilitarized zone between Germany and France and by sacking Jewish professors.

I don’t understand how anyone can come away from all this thinking Trump is ‘strong.’ Right or wrong (the latter, but anyway) he has the authority to shut down Stars and Stripes. He made the call. The Pentagon got to work on it.
And then people got mad at him for it, and he reversed the decision in no time flat. And he’s done similar things countless times! He’s the most flabby and weak of leaders. He’s completely sway-able by changing sentiment.
I shouldn’t be surprised this far in by how 60,000,000 Americans swallow his performative nasty guy schtick and see it as strength, when he’s a complete chinless fraud (not to mention that he cannot, ever, stand up to Putin).
Kent
No, he as the exact right skill set. Good ole boy goober used to sucking up to rich white southern alumni and “boosters” is exactly the same skill set as a GOP senator sucking up to rich business lobbyists.

@RaflW:
They think about it all the time. The problem is it’s an asymmetric threat. There’s a serious down side to being Trump’s enemy if he wins, but there’s no equivalent down side to being Biden’s enemy. So they suck up to Trump.

@RaflW: Either Warnock or Lieberman need to drop before much longer. Otherwise the two Republicans are going to make it. And I don’t know if there’s any leverage for Lieberman to give up the race. Or if Loeffler can get any more damage to fall back before Election Day.

@randy: Me too, Romanoff was the better choice but people went for Hick because he’s familiar I guess. I hope to see Romanoff still in politics next cycle. Of all the D’s I’ll be voting for, he’s the one I am most meh about but I would vote for a potted plant to defeat Gardner so Hick it is!

My dilemma. CBS Austen reports “multiple boats are in distress and sinking on Lake Travis for the Trump Boat Parade.” So — am I a bad person if I laughed?

You are not a bad person.

I just hope the sinking boats are parade participants, I guess. Last one of these things that made the news, the parade wasn’t following wake rules and wound up swamping a boat that had nothing to do with the parade and was just out for a day on the water.

I have a million and one chores to do but decided to do nothing and watch movies instead. I finally moved outside and now the squirrels are throwing acorns at me.

The AntiFa Deep State Navy!
obviously, it’s the latter.
Ken
@JoyceH: Who could have known that drilling a hole in the bottom of the boat to hold the flagpole was a bad idea?
JoyceH
@MomSense: I too have an impressive to do list. And I’m sitting outside sniffing the asphalt and watching my new driveway “cure”. The new driveway replaces a vintage 1989 gravel drive and is something I’ve wanted for a long time.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@JoyceH: I’m not much of a boater, but it looks to me as if this picture confirms your wake-rule theory. Looks like they’ve got the piers rocking
