The RNC is programming people see daily. Grievance politics served up by Trump sycophants.

I thought we could make an advance list of awkward moments. For example, Governor Kim Reynolds is speaking tonight, and had to announce today that the federal government will not be providing disaster aid to many Iowans affected by the derecho. Any other nominees?

Every picture I see of Trump Junior, he looks like he’s trying desperately to puff out his chest. But he does it by leaning his neck backwards and he looks like a drunk at a bar about to fall over backwards.
Then I remember all the pictures of Trump Senior with his bizzare forward lean, like he’s about to fall on his face. Do these two suffer from some weird genetic mutation, or is someone actually teaching them to pose like this?

So, Jerry Falwell Jr. has decided to stay resigned.
WaPost: Jerry Falwell Jr. confirms he has resigned as head of Liberty University

Bored. And “free at last.” LOL.
I feel for the Falwells; they should have privacy in their marriage BUT they are foisting the Christianist lifestyle and hypocrisy on others. Anyway, let’s wait for the financial audit.

Again, no understanding of that proverb. It’s the barrel, people. And unrealistic expectations, too.

But FFS, these are his *base*. His Ever-Lovin’ Base. WTF, aren’t his advisors telling him he needs to move heaven-and-Earth to save them? I mean, I figured the reason Reynolds delayed asking for a disaster declaration and FEMA, was so that Shitler could come in on his white steed and save the day.

btw, looks like Laura is heading more West than expected, so now full impact is expected in Houston and parts of Southwest Louisiana particularly Lake Charles. I believe there is a mandatory evacuation for Lake Charles, but not sure. NOLA will be on the “wet” side though, so we can still expect higher tides and rain, depending on the well the pumps work, flooding is still a possibility.

The charitable interpretation of Falwell’s “free at last” comment is that he’s never believed in any of this stuff but went along because he felt pressured to live up to his father’s legacy. Jennifer Rubin is tweeting about a rabid anti-Semite at the RNC. Who is she talking about?
Le Comte de Monte Cristo, fka Edmund Dantes
@Ken:
I’ve been to better time-share sales presentations.
PPCLI
@gene108: I suspect there is a bit of myth-making about the multiple languages. The times I’ve heard her attempt to speak French, she couldn’t handle more than the most rudimentary greetings. Including one time when she was meeting with a bunch of French elementary school kids and after one or two standard pleasantries she quickly switched to English.
Le Comte de Monte Cristo, fka Edmund Dantes
@Ken: “They wouldn’t let me in until it was time to clean it up!”

Huh?

@James E Powell: I expect it is the “Angel Mom” Mendoza, who yesterday tweeted out a revolting Jewish world-domination conspiracy:

I heard something interesting tonight. Nick Rubando is running against Latta in OH, US House.
He said they polled the district he’s running in and Biden is up 6 in Wood County, which is considered a bellweather county in Ohio. This is very good news if true. I of course asked follow ups to try to verify this information for you but that’s all I have.
So take that as you will :)
Luciamia
@chrisanthemama: Yes, poor Trump. He had ALL those different people advising him. Yeah, a grand total of two.

@TS (the original): 11 out of 10 Black voters say otherwise there, Marc. But do go on…?

@Roger Moore: There is no charitable interpretation.
His cribbing MLK is fucking offensive. A rich powerful privileged white grifting bigot, comparing what he has brought on himself through his own character flaws and bad judgement to the injustice, powerlessness, oppression and hard life of black servitude. Fuck that cynical manipulative hypocrite.
He thinks he’s the victim here. Oppressed all his life. Now freed from slavery. Fuck that rich white godhumping partyboy whiner.
LongHairedWeirdo
@cain: If you don’t know the reference, there’s a joke, “The Aristocrats”, where the buildup is supposed to be discussion of an act so foul/disgusting/whatever that it would never be booked, and, when asked the name of the act, the answer is “The Aristocrats!” – which is pretty weak these days. I don’t think people hear “aristocrat” and have the image people would have had when the joke was invented.
Her fictional narrative was, like a good telling of the aristocrats, so crazy and over-the-top, that, at the end, if someone had said “uh, and what do you *call* that act we just saw?” a proper answer would, indeed, be “THE ARISTOCRATS!”
That said – “KHAAAAAAAAAAAAANNN!!!!” would work, too – anger displayed for the sole purpose of creating a false narrative.
WaterGirl
@The Thin Black Duke: It seems to me that he’s making excuses or seeing a positive night for Trump where I don’t see one, but I don’t get how that is privilege.

Biden up by six in Wood County OH would be stunning. It went for Trump 50-42, with 5 going for Gary Johnson. Are students back at Bowling Green?
Brachiator
Trump and the RNC have decided to go all in on selling resentment, racism and fear to white voters. There are a few crumbs thrown at non-white voters to try to mask the racism.
I don’t care much how pundits rate the convention. I’ve seen headlines at conservative sites claim that the convention has been a success, confounding liberal expectations. I discount this stuff.
But I am curious about viewership levels and voter reaction and will want to see post-convention polls.

Kay
@James E Powell:
Well, it’s kind of a famous bellweather county. “Famous” being relative of course :)
I’m not sure “students being back” would matter because obviously the students were also there in 2016.
There’s more! Rubando is only back 7 from Latta (according to this polling) and Latta won in ’18 with 62%. Now they have 17% undecided. It’s just very positive. Fingers crossed.
James E Powell
@Baud:
Different Bowling Green. I believe the massacre did not take place in Bowling Green KY. This is Bowling Green State University, in Wood County, Ohio, about 20K students.
Kay
@James E Powell:
It wouldn’t really be stunning, because it’s swingy. It would be winning. Obama won it twice:
The Thin Black Duke
@WaterGirl: I see it as privilege because anybody who isn’t a heterosexual white guy with money would be scared to death watching that freak show last night because every dirtbag there who spoke made it clear what they thought about everybody else who wasn’t them and what their future plans were for us. Boorman, however, chose to think of it as an intellectual exercise. Because he has no skin in the game. That’s privilege.
Chetan Murthy
@James E Powell: Wait, you mean there were *two* Bowling Green Massacres? Kellyanne was deliberately underplaying the carnage? Omigosh!

My part of the world it is the same. My parents/grandparents were all born in Australia – two of my 8 great grandparents were immigrants, so I am 3rd generation.
Another Scott
@WaterGirl: I haven’t read him regularly for a while, but he’s always seemed to have a bit of a contrarian take on some things for a nominal liberal.
In the excerpt, one could read it as him saying, “well, they had control of everything they presented, so – since the gates of Hell did not open up and swallow them all – yes they presented what they wanted and made their case to those inside their bubble…”
He tends to write carefully, so one has to read him carefully too, I think.
My $0.02.
Cheers,
Scott.
PPCLI
@James E Powell: Exactly.
The massacre that didn’t happen, didn’t happen in Bowling Green Kentucky.
It didn’t didn’t happen in Bowling Green Ohio.
Barbara
@Elizabelle: Another man. The pool boy, like most people of his generation, has digital receipts: audiotapes, text messages and screen shots. Reuters was shown Facetime screen shots of Becki Falwell in the buff and her husband visible in the background peeking around the door. The article was 90% false suggests that he only watched 10% of the time.
They used their private jet to fly this guy to meet up with them. My husband and I had a good laugh hypothesizing about what he would think if I kept insisting that we invite a much younger male friend to meet up with us when we were traveling around. “Don’t forget to book a room for Giancarlo! See if they have anything adjoining.”

@James E Powell: A slightly batty (sorry, but she was) older southern lady was in the habit of calling me in California to complain about–well, the topic is irrelevant, not political. She would end her calls that she was praying for me, and I thought she was talking about fires. I told her we were pretty OK here, the fires were in another part of the state. “No, I mean all those people rioting in the streets.”
ETA: It may have been a coincidence that her business name was abbreviated CSA, but I honestly doubt it.

@Brachiator:
I can’t find the link just now, but apparently TV ratings for the DNC first night were a few million higher than the RNC; both were down substantially compared to four years ago.
Keith P.
So whatever happened with Rudy Giuliani’s big Joe Biden “expose” that was supposed to happen on Biden’s speech night?
Jeffro
Recognizing that we are only one night in on the RNC here, all four nights of the DNC displayed the parties values as well as exhibiting significant outreach to swing voters and even disaffected Republicans.
The RNC is missing a huge chance to reach out to the remaining 3 swing voters in America and I for one hope they keep it up!

Should anyone be interested, it’s all the games which originally came with Windows 7, downloadable here. Includes both Solitaire and Spider Solitaire. During install, one can uncheck any specific games which hold no interest. Someone once in the past mentioned to me to be alert during install as it wants to also install some adware (which can be bypassed) but saw no evidence of any such today.

There are two uses of “first generation” with no consensus favorite. Some call the people who immigrated the first generation, others use that term for the first born in the new country.

If you read Q you just knew they were going there. It was inevitable. And of course about 25% of the Trump base are not only reading Q, but writing it.

@sanjeevs: That’s why Jerry Jr. said he wasn’t involved. He doesn’t want the (definitely existing) morality clause to kick in.

LOL. No argument. I saw only maybe a minute of her speech and thought… well, thoughts that are not easily expressed.
On Twitter, Rex Chapman posted a Kimberly Guilfoyle/Dwight Schrute mash-up that seemed to capture the spirit, even to someone like me who’s never seen The Office. (Probably already posted here, but I haven’t checked).

DMcK
@Calouste:
Guilfoyle’s mother is Puerto Rican; in other words, an American citizen, not an “immigrant” whatsoever. So it’s pretty shitty of her to use her own damn mother to force Puerto Ricans — fellow American citizens — into the Trumpists’ racist conception of scary border hordes (gaslightingly gussied up in a supposedly heartwarming immigrant’s tale, of course).
wuzzat
@Keith P.: He meant he was going to moon the TV during Joe’s speech.
Ken
@Amir Khalid: Trump’s mother was a Scottish immigrant.

What? Did her kid get killed by an illegal immigrant?

His mother was an immigrant from Scotland. Some say, an illegal immigrant. I don’t know, but people are talking about it.

JMG
@Kay: Heavy duty anti-Semitic comments, right up to praise for Protocols of Elders of Zion, found in her social media past. Her kid got killed and she went nuts. Very sad, but also telling the Trump folks were willing to exploit her problems for a soundbite.

In Canada, a First Generation Immigrant refers to a person who has Immigrated here, and become naturalized.
Second and Third Generation only apply to children of, and grandchildren of, parents/grandparents who were both Immigrants.
I’m not considered any common “generation” of Immigrant, because both my Grandmothers were born in Canada, even though both my Grandfathers were immigrants.
My ex however, is considered 2nd Generation because both her parents immigrated from Italy.
Guilfoyle is just faking it, lying and pretending.

@Barbara: I think the single most contemptible thing about Republicans (out of a loooong list) is the way the literally only care about the deaths of other human beings when they can use those deaths to slander Democrats. As if the life of a child who died at the hands of an illegal immigrant is intrinsically more worthy of consideration than, say, the life of a child who died as a result of drinking tap water in Flint, Michigan.
EDIT: And in this case, it’s not even a child! It was a grown man, apparently, a cop who was killed on duty. But yeah, let’s call them Angel Mothers.
