The Oval Office Squatter polls dangerously close to the magical 27%…

#Washington Poll:

Biden 62% (+5 Since May 19)
Trump 28% (-9)

Even Erick ‘Voice of the GOP Gated Community’ Erickson is (for the moment) disillusioned!

erick, son of erick, is the last psuedo-mainstream republican still out here pretending that this is a reasonable party led by reasonable people, and i'd almost feel bad for him if i didn't know literally anything about him. https://t.co/ReSi0IS6ul

— golikehellmachine (@golikehellmachi) July 29, 2020

i'm not saying that he was right; what i'm saying is that millions of americans now believe things that are significantly less tethered to reality than this country's most infamous serial bomber believed.

— golikehellmachine (@golikehellmachi) July 29, 2020

your average qanon supporter has more rational views than your average non-qanon trump voter, because at least the qanon guy believes that there has to be an acceptable esoteric explanation for the exoteric shitshow the non-qanon guy fully endorses.

“The world so angry — is such an angry place!” Don’t know if it was specific information from Putin, or just the visible collapse of his fantasy empire, but Trump’s certainly terrified:

the absolute dumbest people on left twitter said that this story was debunked, so I'll just ignore the obvious visible terror on the President's face and his response that's incoherent even by his standards https://t.co/BAvAYbxUjd

It’s interesting to listen to that interview clip and hear Trump‘s voice go higher and higher, until at times he sounds almost strangulated. He. Is. Terrified, most of the time now. Maybe he has been all along, but now he can’t hide it.

Give him points for consistency. Trump hasn’t worked solving any problems because his administration is about other things.

Watching that clip, I do think the “Trump’s in cognitive decline” stuff is dumb. He understands what’s going on, what he’s being asked about, and attempts to formulate responses (not answers, that means something different than his parries).

But what is abundantly clear is: He is a lazy, unprepared, insanely selfish man who relies way too much on bluster. And the lazy bluster is super-duper not working now. I also think Putin’s Russian mafia loans are weighing heavily on him. He knows he’s screwed when this ride is over in January.

Saw an interview in the Guardian with Brazilian singer Caetano Veloso, who among other things had strangely familiar things to say about the state of his country (“It’s just madness”). Wondering what he’d been singing lately, I found these, recorded in NYC in January. He’s accompanied by Ivan Sacerdote on clarinet and on the second, Mosquito on tres and vocal.

When Biden’s president, I really hope we have some Nuremberg-style trials or some kind of truth and reconciliation process. No, I don’t mean executions; I mean trials, or public hearings or some sort. Protracted, probing, your-BS-is-not-tolerated-here discussions. New laws and regulations that strengthen our institutions against Trump-style governance. I mean, this just cannot go on. Part of that involves people going to jail starting in 2021, but that’s not all. We need to identify the nonsense that Trump and his lackeys have abused (some of it publicly known, others not) and put a stop to it. Yes, I’m arguing that part of Biden’s agenda should be to put some leashes on the presidency, which is perhaps counterintuitive, but my god, we need this to stop.

    Like, what was the question?

Is this an approval poll, or a voting intentions poll? Was the population drawn from all registered voters, likely voters, whole population? And so on.

I love poll porn as much as the next, but more details would really help, and going to the tweet itself does not provide them.

The interview is like watching a ten year old try to give excuses why he didn’t do his homework. For three and a half years.

“No, I didn’t talk to him about my job of commanding the US military and keeping the personnel as safe as they can be in the front line. But I have heard of nuclear proliferation! That’s what counts. I want some of that. So does Putin. That’s what we should be talking about. And China. No, I do too read. Why, I read about some Indian soldiers getting killed in a fight with the Chinese. See? I’m a stable genius, and I know what’s going on in the world. And there’s China again. I told you. If we armed the Taliban before to fight the Soviet Union, it’s fine that Putin arms them now to fight us. I think the country I lead is now no better than Soviet Union was. That’s why I say ‘Keep America Great’.”

Change “reconciliation” to “retribution.” Even before the Murderer-in-Chief’s (in)actions — and those of his enablers — resulted in 100,000-plus deaths, those traitors had already done enough to destroy this country, such that “let’s study this judiciously” etc is a non-starter. If his maladministration, and Moscow Mitch, and much/most of the elected Republicans, get off with a sternly-worded letter and a finger wagged in their figurative faces, they will “learn” the same lesson that the Traitor-in-Chief learned from his impeachment acquittal.

Not saying they all need to be drawn-and-quartered, but lengthy prison stays (including life in prison for McConnell), seizing of their property/assets, and so forth , should be included/available.

One problem I foresee (were this to come to fruition) is that — to paraphrase Roy Scheider — we’re going to need a bigger prison.

The thing that disturbs me about that 28% is that 10% of people have expressed no opinion.  I can only think that they are ashamed to say Trump but they can’t bring themselves to say Biden.

So I’d call that closer to 38% than 28%, which is way to high considering we have lived through the last 3 years.  If Trump hasn’t done anything yet that allows you to say that you would vote for the other guy, I don’t think there’s anything he could do that put you over the line on that.
