As promised, all-Georgia fundraising the next few days. Ground has shifted in the House and it looks like we may be in a position to play offense, not just defend first-term incumbents. One of the best pick-up opportunities in the whole country is in GA-7 where Carolyn Bourdeaux almost won in 2018 and is now running for an open seat. A couple of you have mentioned this race in the comments so now seems like a good to time raise some money for this race.

Thanks, Doug. I volunteered for Carolyn in 2018 and this time around I’ve given her a fair amount of money, but tossed a little at your thermometer anyhow just to prime the pump (forgive the mixed metaphor).

Is John going to invite Sullivan to blog here now that he’s been dumped?
Any other position would be objectively pro-cancel, amirite?
jl
@Poe Larity: Did Sullivan get dumped, or is he just leaving to do his own blog again? I read that he wrote some farewell column, though a bit nicer and more rational than the one the cancel lady did.
Another Scott
@oatler.: :-(. An amazing talent.
RIP.
Cheers,

@jl: He was let go. He apparently weeps for himself and the critical theorist gestapo who don’t understand how meanie they are.

Doug,
Sort of OT but every time I think or read an article about Trump, I think of you and your mastery of song lyrics as thread title, and I keep waiting for this, from “Salt of the Earth” by the Stones
“Let’s think of the wavering millions
Who need leaders but get gamblers instead”
Based on the quote below which I just copied off a CNN piece, I think the time for that line has truly arrived.
“In fact, as he escalates his campaign of fear and race baiting, he is making clear that he is betting he can win in November while ignoring a disease killing hundreds of Americans every day””

My housemate heard from her best friend in Guatemala today that the friend’s 27-year-old sister died of COVID19, and a brother in his 30s is on a ventilator in the hospital not likely to survive.

@Mary G: Terrible.
Doesn’t Guatemala have a “strongman” leader? How is that country handling COVID-19?

@jl:
I suspect there was already some acrimony between New York Mag and Sully (uninteresting output, prima donna attitude, whatever). And that, when the inevitable end came, Sully decided to describe himself and his role in the departure in the most martyr-like way he could.

@oatler.:
Some Emitt Rhodes music:
The Merry-Go-Round, “Live” (1967).
Four songs from Emitt Rhodes (1970).
0.00 – Live Till You Die.
2:40 – You Should Be Ashamed.
5:17 – Lullaby.
6:20 – Fresh as a Daisy.
And an early regional (SoCal) hit from the Palace Guard, “Falling Sugar” (1966). Rhodes was the group’s drummer.

Have a friend who has a daughter who graduated from Georgetown and took a job in Equador… Haven’t heard anything from her so far, I assume she’s OK else we would have heard
ETA…have contributed to this Senatorial campaign already.
evap
Done! I’ve been meaning to donate to her, here’s hoping voter turnout will push her over the finish line this time.

I should use that one. One of my favorite albums of all time!

@DougJ: Mine too.
Also the line from “Memo from Turner” about “policmen’s buttons” seems appropriate to many current stories as well.
