Current weather forecasts for Portsmouth indicate that the rain is supposed to stop there around noon on Saturday; the rally was scheduled for 8 p.m.https://t.co/sfme6rUDmT

Be nice if he’d done it before the DeathCult-heads brought their plague caravan to New England, but he didn’t have a fresh reason to avoid reporters until after Roger Stone’s commutation was announced. From the local NH television station, WMUR:
… Tropical Storm Fay is headed toward the Northeast and is expected to bring heavy rains before it moves out Saturday by late morning or early afternoon. Although the rally was scheduled for the evening, the campaign said the storm was enough to have them reschedule the outdoor event.
With the rally postponed, the days are flying off the calendar until Election Day. Even though Portsmouth is one of New Hampshire’s liberal bastions, Trump has had some memorable rallies there…
The planned rally at Portsmouth International Airport at Pease promised more memorable moments for the president’s supporters, but the Trump base will have to wait. The campaign said it plans to reschedule within the next couple weeks…
Gonna be a tough few months for the advance team. The Squatter-in-Chief is desperate for more & bigger in-person hits of slavish adoration from his cultists… but they don’t dare expose him to long periods of public scrutiny, especially when there’s a new outrage against law and decency that might incite aggressive questioning. We can only suppose that the grift, in cash or contacts, is worth the increasingly futile effort.
Much safer to stick with “rallies” like this one:
This could possibly be the single dumbest thing any campaign has bragged about, ever, in the history of campaigns. https://t.co/wAbrxyPldh

Perfect really because this is Trump's actual base. Not working class white people but rich yuppies who adopted 'redneck' as a personality during the Bush administration. The shittiest Below Deck guests became a political constituency. https://t.co/xwZBKI7HvS

NEW: Concern over turnout was factor in postponing Trump rally, GOP advisers say https://t.co/xxtByuXlj5
— Geoff Bennett (@GeoffRBennett) July 11, 2020
Well before the call was made to postpone President Donald Trump’s Saturday re-election rally in New Hampshire, the warning lights were flashing red.
There were no signs of the typical throngs of supporters camped out days in advance for a good spot; the Republican governor said he would skip it, advising anyone at high risk to stay home over coronavirus concerns; fears of a repeat of Tulsa’s disappointing turnout weighed heavily; and then came the stormy weather reports, which could have further stifled attendance…
The coastal town is not currently expected to be hit directly by the storm, but the decision to reschedule over bad weather is a “convenient excuse” for the Trump 2020 team, one outside adviser told NBC News.
“It’s the perfect timing. The weather may have been dissuading people to attend, but many weren’t coming to begin with because of the virus,” this person said.
It all came as expectations for the campaign’s second attempt at rebooting the president’s 2020 rallies were as low they’ve ever been….
If the Oval Office Occupant isn’t already in a bad patch of cognitive-decline anger/aggression, an underattended rally would most certainly send him into one.

The Convention is going to be the fun one. If they follow through on the outdoor plan, he’s going to insist on the big football stadium, because Obama did that in 2008.

I absolutely loved Portsmouth, having drilled there for a couple of years at PNSY. New Hampshire has a short coastline but it’s really magnificent. Not the right place for a Nuremburg style rally for Fat Bastard.

By the way, the official results of Singapore’s elections are in, and the main opposition party (Workers’ Party) have doubled their presence to 10 MPs in 3 GRCs, highest number of oppo politicians by far ever in our history, if I’m not mistaken. Unfortunately, still means that PAP has the other 83 seats, but well, we’re trying XD
Goku (aka Amerikan Baka)
@Emma:
Do you think the Hong Kong National Security Law may have played a role?
@Kropacetic:
Even when positive rates of cases are increasing and so are hospitalizations. Truly a 12th level intellect we’re dealing with here lol
Emma
@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): I guarantee no one in Singapore was giving a shit about Hong Kong – PRC relations when voting. Lots of our own domestic issues, including of course the PAP’s response to the pandemic, the Ivan Lim saga (edit: also the Raeesah Khan saga), and the general “screw you” attitude the PAP has toward people who don’t like the way they game the system.
Goku (aka Amerikan Baka)
@Emma:
Huh. I’ve always heard that Singapore had one of the best public health responses to the pandemic in the world. I guess that’s not correct
Also, just looked up PAP, and the logo for their party looks like the British Union of Fascists’ old logo

LA Times reports that though the coronavirus is on a rampage in the OC, the mass of shops and restaurants outside the theme parks known as Downtown Disney reopened this week. It was, of course, mobbed.
They did take precautions – masks were required and enforced (everyone knows Disney doesn’t fuck around; my high school is one of many that’s been banned for minor infractions). Plexiglass was installed and social distancing spaces marked.
Customers were the same kind of people who participated in the boat parade.
The motive is, of course, money. Disney collects a lot of taxes and employs the most people in the county. A sole voice of sanity:
Edited for tweaks.

They haven’t outgrown the sschoolyard taunts stage. Campaign full of Bart Simpsons and Nelson Muntz.
Emma
@Goku (aka Amerikan Baka): at the start, yes, but then remember that COVID exploded within the migrant workers’ dorms. Didn’t read much on this, but apparently the PAP MP of the GRC with a lot of those dorms was out gladhanding people and denying that there was any issue before it became obvious that there was indeed an issue. Also, PAP likes to buy votes by giving out money from time to time, but I guess it didn’t really do enough to disguise the obvious wealth disparities during the pandemic.
You may find it amusing to know that the PAP (People’s Action Party) started off as a left-wing party until Lee Kuan Yew shivved one of the other co-founders, a genuine communist, and took over the party. Read the comic The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye for more on this. Critically acclaimed and won 3 Eisners, but it sure pissed off the Lees lol.

Hey, folks, wonder if someone could explain something to me. When I watch the news recently I’ve started noticing, in the coverage of what’s going on in hospitals, that some of the nurses aren’t wearing a mask, or mask and shield, but some sort of inflatable helmet gizmo. Fits entirely over their head with a clear panel in front, a hose at the back of the head attached to some sort of power pack at the waist. What ARE those things? I assume the hose is providing air, but what does the power pack do? Does it filter the outside air, or provide onboard air? It looks a lot more protective than the masks, so I hope they’re being manufactured and distributed just as fast as possible. Does anyone know what they’re called?
JWR
@JoyceH:
You mean these thingamajigs?
ETA the link.
JoyceH
@JWR: That’s not quite it, though it might produce the same effect. The helmets I’ve been seeing are sort of close fitting to the head, though you can tell they’re kinda ‘puffy’ from the air supply, and they’re white except for the clear panel in front. I’ve been googling and I think they’re PAPR, ‘postive air purifying respirator’ equipment. Google tells me they’re more protective than the N95 masks, so let’s hope they are soon in use everywhere. Maybe we could even have them for ourselves, like every Brit in WWII having a gas mask.
