Just finished it. Amazing and incredibly creepy and depressing.
He was the world’s powerful people’s collector of little girls, which bought him wealth and leverage, and “they” killed him when he was no longer useful.

Dershowitz always was human debris, except I’m doubtful of the ‘human’ part.

No thanks.

Same here.
I don’t need to watch to know what he was and how bad his defenders are.
Didn’t someone say that money is the root of all evil? Sure seems like it in this case.

Trump is crowing about the drop in unemployment… Like it actually has anything to do with him or his policies!
To go a bit new agey for a moment, I wonder if the bloated sack of fish fat and greed can metaphysically feel the hatred and disdain of–worldwide–3 billion people.

I have no desire to put myself through that. I got enough problems dealing with what’s happening every day without smashing shit.

Joe Biden has reached 1995 delegates according to USA Today.

May I suggest Queer Eye instead? They just dropped Season 5 and uplifting is probably not a strong enough word.

I’m torn. I rage watched the most recent docs re: Michael Jackson and R. Kelly. I will probably catch this just because, as a rape survivor, I find I have a slightly sick fascination with these cases. They give a sort of validation that I’m not the only one or even suffered the worst crime (it was a date rape and there was no threat to my life or my family). And, in some cases, justice gets done and that is satisfying in a way that is hard to explain to others.

The saying is that the love of money is the root of all evil. Perhaps a fine distinction.
The bromide I have been thinking about this week, in regard to cops, is the one about “a few bad apples.” People tend to forget that the whole saying is “A few bad apples spoil the barrel.” ‘Nuff said.

@John O: I am on the Island episode. This just shows how rotten to the core our elites are. So many rich and powerful people knew what this man was doing and they looked the other way or covered it up.
It’s not in the same scale but this is similar to the Jimmy Savile, in UK who sexually abused hundreds of children and women at the height of his fame. Almost everyone apparently knew or suspected but they did nothing.
MisterForkbeard
Off-topic, but: I haven’t been able to find much information about looting and rioting lately. In that I have no idea if there’s more or less of it. I think apparently a lot less, since I’ve been hearing less about it, but… no real idea.

@Steeplejack (phone):the whole saying is “A few bad apples spoil the barrel.”
And extending the metaphor, adding good apples will never fix the problem with the barrel until the bad apples are removed and the barrel is cleaned by someone outside of the barrel.

@MisterForkbeard: In Seattle, the curfew has been lifted (after 4-5 days), which signals to me that the rioting and looting have ended.
Feathers
@MisterForkbeard: Apparently, In early days the NYPD looked the other way while Soho stores were ransacked, in ways consistent with organized crime being involved. Based on this got a curfew. They are now content to kettle protesters so they are trapped and unable to get home before curfew, thus justifying beating the crap out of them and arresting them at random.
This same pattern has been observed elsewhere.
EAlbert
After reading last night about protesters clucking to call Trump a chicken, all I can think of is a sound system blaring out The Chicken Dance and when it gets to the refrain where everyone claps 4 times have the protesters call out TRUMP 4 times. There can’t be many people who don’t know it from every wedding they have gone to.

Cole, seriously: Find something else to watch. Hikaru no Go is available on both Hulu and Amazon Prime; it’s about a teenage fvckup who learns to be a responsible gamer through the intermission of a genius teacher (who happens to be an Edo-period ghost). Or Princess Nine (high school girls’ baseball). Twin Spica, if you can find it — if you remember Andre Norton or Heinlein’s YA novels, this is a fantastic modern version. Genshiken, which is so true to the details of being part of the sci-fi geek campus subculture as to be somewhat embarrassing for those of us who once lived those tropes.
Or maybe Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars, which is more like R.A. Lafferty. The aliens are here — have been here! — but it’s not really a posting that attracts the best galactic ambassadors…

@Anne Laurie: I would really push for Silver Spoon (Gin no Saji) as a journey of exploration of a young academic burnout who finds out just where his food comes from as he picks an Agricultural School because he thinks it’ll be “easy”. His evolution as a person as he rises to multiple challenges is awesomely funny and touching.

Weird. I got to about half way through the first episode and decided to take a little break and see what the juice has going on tonight. So far I’m mostly astonished at these young women, used like they were spank mags and then dismissed — and here they are, full human beings telling the tale.
In that sense, it’s empowering and they deserve my attention.

I’m not sure how I feel about that; maybe it’s not enough.

@opiejeanne: Boy, there’s gonna be major push-back from all these police officers (and their unions) to all these calls for something resembling justice. Here’s Sgt. Jeretta Sanchez, vice president of the L.A. police union:
I realize she’s one of the heads of an all powerful police union, but she lies like a cheap-ass politician, and flat-out threatens the public. And it’s not all for money. It’s about their stranglehold on local politicians.

@Duane:
The DJ has been sold as the be all end all of the economy, while it’s actually just another name for a casino. All the people who work for those companies, that pay those dividends, who spend their pay for groceries and homes and cars and smartphones and pay taxes, that’s the economy. And when those people aren’t doing well the economy crashes. Sort of what it’s doing now. At the very same time the DJA is going up. How is it that the supposed economic indicator is going up while unemployment is huge, and there is a pandemic killing well over 100,000 people? Maybe it’s the gambling that makes the DJA go up and it’s actual people actually working that is the economy and screwing the working people is what we should actually be worried about……

My dog is ailing. He still has ‘excellent’ lab work. He’s had an infection off and on since March, and we’re still waiting for the bacteria test and biopsy last Monday on that to come back. (On Mon. vet found his forehead bone is infected.) Just now his weird breathing and cough woke me up. He’s 13. He’s been on a new antibiotic since Monday. Right now his paws. etc. are hot. Atmospheric low pressure has been bothering him this week. I think the vet goes for the simplest answer each time we go, which makes sense but ….

When she was about 15 years old and had severe hip displaysia, she finally started groaning when she got up and down. That was the extent of her expression of pain. I hope you get some better answers soon and am sending you good thoughts. Give scritches to the doggo on my behalf.

You seem to believe Epstein actually committed suicide, while all the security cameras conveniently went on the fritz. I think prison guards were very highly paid to kill Jeff, and other techs were highly paid to “fix” the camera systems.
After all, if you’re a billionaire, what is a million bucks to each of 8 or 10 people, to keep your name out of the pedophile trials? Besides chump change I mean? And look at the cost/benefit ratio. You stay out of trouble, you’re still richer than everyone else you know… What’s not to like?
We’ll never know for sure… but I expect Jeff Epstein’s documentation was all destroyed, for a large payment, end of story.

@Wapiti: Actually the other way around. Harder for the police to riot, and less of an opportunity to go after the protesters instead of the looters, once the curfew is lifted.
They’ve probably gone back to doing their jobs.
That was actually the intent when the curfew was lifted, in direct response to community pressure (and quite suddenly).

May I recommend “The Great” on Hulu? NOT a typical costume drama — although there are some luscious costumes — but a dramedy about the rise of Catherine the Great, starting with her disastrous marriage to an out-of-control nutbag, Peter, who as emperor of Russia ruled without regard for anything except his own desires and power. (Sound familiar?) BTW, this Peter is not Peter the Great, which is a bit of a running joke in the series.
