Yesterday there were more #Covid19 cases reported outside of China than in China. A first, @WHO says.

In case you missed it earlier, here’s another brief, useful article on how to prep realistically for a (the) coronavirus pandemic:
This post is based on the assumption that a #COVID19 pandemic will occur at some point and that Wave 1 will impact us, wherever we live, in the coming weeks and months.
It aims to prepare & familiarise us with that.#PLANnotpanic https://t.co/SSS16TRKY4 pic.twitter.com/i0mqii6qGS— ??? ? ??????, ??? ?????????? (@MackayIM) February 25, 2020

You probably have heard that Trump gave a press conference about ‘the Caronavirus‘, and to call that presser a sh*tshow would be an insult to mere harmless sh*tshows. We know he’s taking it (or at least its effect on the stock market) seriously, because instead of giving the pandemic response portfolio to Jared, he passed it on to Mike Pence, Official Scapegoat. Seriously, read the Washington Post‘s report on the big announcement; if we’re not totally doomed, it will not be for lack of trying by the squatting administration.
There's a tweet for everything.

Cermet
Pence only purpose is, as you say and I mentioned in a previous thread, a scape goat. If the virus hits, under the bus he goes.
Placing the least powerful (actually, zero) person in the government as head of this effort is worse than not doing anything at all. This clog of dirt will block and/or slow people who are trying to get real stuff done to get us ready for this possible pandemic.
Once again, the gas cloud f’s up even the simplest job. Hopefully, most of his voting block suffer the most.

The absurd shit-show of a press conference resembled a Trump cabinet meeting in that speakers were required to kiss Trump’s ass as a preamble to remarks and insert paeans to his leadership throughout their briefing. Does Trump explicitly require public obsequiousness in speeches as a condition of holding top jobs? Or do toadies like Mulvaney and Kushner insert the slobbering praise into admin functionaries’ remarks to buck up Trump’s fragile ego?
Unknown, but the effect is surreal. Meanwhile, Trump looms behind the speakers, wearing a sourpuss scowl that he apparently mistakes for Churchillian resolve. He was extra-weird last night, turning from side to side and craning his neck to look around the room while the speakers held the floor. My husband and I were watching TV at the kitchen counter and talking about what to have for dinner when the presser came on. We decided to have cabernet sauvignon.

@Betty Cracker: Cab is always a good choice. Since trump was elected, the CDC has been careful not to upset him but their funding depends on it.

@Cermet: Can we stop the idea that his base voters are poor? They tend not to have below average income, even if they live in lower average income counties and states.

Nothing about the biggest news of the day? Transmission in the US with no discernible link to any foreign source?
I was intensely skeptical at first, but it looks like China will have its epidemic controlled by April. The rest of the world? I doubt it. The good news is that there was a Chinese paper published recently indicating that the epidemic never spread well there outside of Hubei. So once places go into panic mode and people stop going on and traveling the epidemic is quite controllable.
marklar
Before anybody panics, remember that Pence is on the case with two very effective remedies for all of society’s (and now diseases’s) ills. 1- Thoughts…these are generic, and anybody can get them (although their quality and doses are not standardized). 2- Prayers…getting these might be a bit tougher since many of them require proscriptions, and many prayer networks are closed markets.
