Funny you should mention that. Have been inundated with robocalls, sometimes the same one 4 or 5 times over the course of a day (and night), to the point where stopped dithering and a couple of days ago attached an answering machine to the phone so I can screen calls.

In other news, my back is acting up, which happens almost never. Felt a little tight starting late last week—I have no idea why—then flared up the last day or so. The crisis points are (a) right when I start to get up from a sitting position and (b) bending down below a certain point. I have been moving vewy, vewy deliberately and trying to stay off of the computer (at the desk, my primary sitting location). Fortunately, lying down really helps, and it doesn’t hurt to turn over in bed, so that’s good. And Aleve, which I take about twice a year, has been helping. That is all.

@mrmoshpotato: Cole fell asleep while facetiming Samantha? Yet another BJ blogger ethics scandal.
I was looking at Google Maps and they had a place name “Neenach Volcano” up near Palmdale. Turns out that it really was a volcano(last erupted 20 million years ago) here in LA county. The article pointed out another extinct volcano in eastern Ventura county were I grew up, Conejo Mountain(last erupted 14 million years ago).
I used to drive the Sepulveda Pass every workday (worked in Glendale, near Dodger Stadium, lived on Veteran near campus … talking last year or 2 at school here).
I really screwed the pooch (sorry Samantha!) with that job; I ran a lab, basically had it to myself (it was kinda dirty, so the office people avoided it) so I could crank up the stereo and do my thing. Damn, those were the days (wasn’t a fancy lab like my Aero days, where we had toys aplenty and was plenty clean, but it was fun in it’s own way). Had to quit though or graduation was going to be a real challenge (it was a challenge, anyway).
Anyway, these days, I’d rather hang out in Wuhan than drive the Sepulveda pass regularly.
@debbie: Actually, the vibe it gave me was more like the Dr. Who series where Amy keeps seeing a woman staring at her from unexpected windows in walls, with the window and the woman vanishing as soon as Amy sees her. Turns out Amy is actually a prisoner somewhere else, with the woman keeping watch, and the “Amy” who is with The Doctor and Rory is a construct.

Huh, we coulda been neighbors, but you were a year or 2 ahead of me, IIRC. On Veteran, I think it was the 600 block (660?), right across from the Cemetary. It was an easy walk to campus and the village.
Before Veteran, I lived over off of Wilshire and San Vincente. NOT an easy walk to campus but did it regularly (along with bus, of course). I was in the shadow there of Barington Towers, which I always thought were really nice, but there has been 2 fires there in just a few short years. Maybe it was never that nice or isn’t that nice any longer

I just started my THIRD week of lower back pain + sciatica. At this point, it’s really the sciatica that’s killing me because it makes it painful to walk since I have lovely shooting pains down my calf and shin. Yay.

@Mnemosyne: Yikes! I know the feeling! For me, beginning in 1990, it started with lower back pains, which chiropractic adjustments, once every few years seemed to take care of. But my Sciatica skipped my leg and jumped to where it is now, centered in my right foot. (And it hurts like hell, 24/7.) Here’s hoping that your pain, (and anyone else suffering from Sciatica), doesn’t become chronic.
Ouch! I’m seeing both a physical therapist and a chiropractor for other things, so they’ve both been working on the emergency that is my lower back. It’s definitely helped even though I still have pain.
