In other news – if you didn’t see it last night, this Great Dane pup found a new home. Not only a good home, but a very special home, not far from where he lives now. Very happy for him and his new family.

Calling all East Coast juicers! One of our potential pup adopting families is in NY, and still looking. So if you see any extra large dogs (doesn’t have to be a Great Dane) in the area, shoot me an email with the deets. I’ve put them in touch with some rescues, but you never know where that special pup is going to come from. Thanks!

I got a note from First Run Features’ publicity machine about a film that some Juicers will like: “To Be of Service”, service dogs and veterans. I bet it’s an inspiring tearjerker.
This is what First Run Features says about the film:

My Good Deed for the month. I know an artist who’s quite literally a starving artist – she makes her entire living off commissions. Living in a trailer in Arkansas, she gets very little access to medical care, though her son does get Medicaid.
Since she has no access to medical care, her wrists and back started falling apart. Drawing for hour upon hour in a threadbare chair on a digital tablet will do that to a person.
So I went to the Evil Amazon and I bought her a top class Big and Tall office chair, a memory foam and gel tailbone cushion, the most expensive wrist braces I could get (with built-in hot and cold gel packs) and sleeping braces. So now when she “goes to work” she doesn’t have to spend the day in agony. She’s already a lot more relaxed at her job. These things, not terribly expensive from my perspective, may as well be a million dollars from her’s.
Fuck the Second Gilded Age. That is all.

Good for you, and good for your friend. You have your angel’s wings for the day.

@Amir Khalid: Yeah, there’s a little “virtue signalling” in it, but mostly it’s to show that small acts can make a big difference, and to pay forward the MANY small acts from friends, over many years, that have kept me alive. Nobody can save the world, but I very much believe in this quote from the Talmud: “…Whoever saves a life [of Israel], it is considered as if he saved an entire world.”

Long and varied career on the screens both big and small as well on on stage. Perhaps best recognized for his Oscar nominated portrayal of C. W. Moss in Bonnie and Clyde.

@Another Scott:
the structure of debt and title would have to be changed in law.
here for example, title is registered by the Province and all debt against title is registered by the Province.
debt and credit is a contract, so my mortgage cannot be bought or sold. All a Financial Institute can elect to do is to with sufficient notice, decline to renew a loan or mortgage, at end of term. Financial Institutes under some conditions “securitize” loans, but the fiscal liability attaches to them, not to title.
corporate law is different however.
because individual debt cannot be bought or sold, or even moved with out the debtor’s agreement, it becomes a lousy vehicle for speculation, and because it is registered through the Province against titles, difficult for Corporations to “game”.

A propos of Merlin’s impending travel: we know he needs paperwork to be an official passenger & apart from the obvious vaccine/booster certificate(s), is there a general standard form that says “I’m Good to Go” that every airline can issue, or does each airline do things slightly differently (this is America after all), or are there five different answers to three questions?

OK, I’ll toot my horn a little bit also.
Early last week, leaving the house to run errands, groceries mostly, and the dogs have dropped a box turtle on the front steps. He was all curled up, but his left hind leg was out, and a tiny bit of blood. This is the time of year when these small turtles have buried themselves to hibernate through the winter, and it’s typically much too cold for them to move outdoors.
His shell was abraded a little bit, but not broken or penetrated. I debated a few minutes, was afraid if I buried him I wouldn’t know how deep, plus the dogs would probably dig him up and be yet more destructive with him. What to do?
I took him to the Vet clinic where we have been going for 30 years now. Head Vet has been Vet of the Year for WV, helped found the Vet ER which is open all night and holidays and weekends, a really great person who has recruited other great vets for his practice. They used to have a couple or red-eared turtles at the clinic. I knew that at least I could get educated advice.
When I was escorted into the back of the clinic, senior Vet was there, smiled and said “Is that a turtle you’ve brought in?” After a close examination, he said Turtle was in pretty good shape, and offered to take him home to recuperate. Since my knee is down for the count right now, I couldn’t walk far enough into the woods to ensure his safety. Dr B said they had lots of turtles in their back yard because of his wife’s compost pile, where they would find old salad greens and vegetable parings and such, which attracted them all summer.
Hurray, one home run for the turtles of WV!! Our vets are great!
I love my dogs, but they are prone to be hunters out here in the woods.

Reading this from my disgusting Representative makes me want to punch something, and I have never punched anything in my life.
Prior to release of the report or any investigation of the allegations, House leadership announced their intent to impeach President Trump. Impeachment is a serious and extreme constitutional remedy that should be conducted soberly and with careful and considered deliberation. Unfortunately, that is not what is currently happening. After conducting a secret impeachment inquiry, selectively leaking snippets of interviews to bolster their case to the public, the House finally passed H. Res. 660, adopting a formal impeachment inquiry and outlining the procedures surrounding public hearings which began on November 13, 2019. I opposed this resolution because it fails to provide the protections afforded to President’s in past inquiries. For instance, House Democrats have not allowed Republicans to call a single witness.
After months of impeachment hearings, four simple facts remain and are undisputed: Ukraine received foreign aid authorized by Congress, no investigation was ever announced by the Ukrainian President or Government, President Zelensky has twice stated that he felt no pressure and the transcripts of the two calls between Trump and Zelensky show no pressure or offer for quid pro quo. Impeachment is a very serious charge that invalidates the results of the 2016 election and impedes progress on important issues that affect the American people. You may believe the President’s actions and foreign policy approach is inappropriate and I believe that is an issue that should be debated and decided through the course of an election. Based on those four simple facts, I do not believe we should remove a duly elected President of the United States through impeachment, an act that would also prohibit him from seeking the office in the 2020 election, which is less than a year away.
Congress has been consumed with impeachment and important work is not being done such as passing the USMCA, lowering drug prices, alleviating student loan debt, and fixing our broken infrastructure. We were elected to solve problems and produce solutions for our constituents, the longer the impeachment saga drags on the more important issues will get neglected. I understand your position on President Donald Trump and his policies but impeachment is a most serious act and I believe given the current set of facts that we should let the voters decide whether President Trump will continue to serve in office.
