Spontaneous ovation tonight at a DC jazz club for #MarieYovanovitch. Grateful for your courage and integrity, Ambassador! #Impeachment #ImpeachTrump pic.twitter.com/GYwpQQdvJq

Contrast:
@senatemajldr #MoscowMitch had to have a security detail to eat in a Louisville restaurant tonight. Of course, he could just meet with his constituents, rather than hide. Or he could do the work he swore he would do. Instead, the traitor spends tax money on security to hide.

Hey… that’s Blues Alley, well-known Georgetown jazz club. I’ve been there many times.
NotMax
Erm, it’s not hiding if his location is known.
Just sayin’.
schrodingers_cat
This is what I said when she was testifying
Elizabelle
@MattF: Who was playing?
I am glad to see Amb Y getting public acclaim. It might sink into a few skulls of people who have some serious decisions to make.
And it’s a very positive form of throwing a finger at Trump, Barr, Pompeo, Giuliani. All the criminals.
rikyrah
MoscowMitch is a coward and a traitor.
TaMara (HFG)
@NotMax: I believe they are talking about him hiding from his constituents instead of holding town halls or public meetings.
Frankensteinbeck
Republican congressmen are pathetic, abject cowards. Remember the Obamacare repeal period? When they would go to great lengths to only hold town halls with Republican voters, and when they failed would duck out in the middle rather than face angry constituents? And these were angry liberal constituents, not the kind who would threaten them physically. It’s going to be one Hell of a campaign season.
Aimai
just posting to see if the site will remember me.
Aimai
@Aimai: that worked.
MattF
@Elizabelle: I’ve had a semi-regular evening-before-New-Years-Eve date there for several years. You get the New Years Eve headliner at a more reasonable price. Until recently, they had Ahmad Jamal, for the past few years it’s been Cyrus Chestnut.

Moscow Mitch reaps what he’s sewn. The NRA’S pet is scared of being shot. Oh, who’s kidding? He’s scared of his shadow. Go find a traitor flag and take a picture jackass.

@Aimai: We will never forget you!

The cool part was when she stepped onstage to recite poetry:

I was college friends with Lisa Dickey, who posted that first tweet – what a nice surprise to see it here! And to see the way Amb. Yovanovitch is being treated by regular citizens as she moves on from the hearings! Imagine that – doing the right thing gains you accolades rather than condemnation once you’re outside the rightwing bubble of evil. Guessing AG Barr wouldn’t receive quite the same reaction.
Baud
@Aimai: Good. I hope you become a regular again.

Is it true firefighters and EMT are siding with the protesters? I vaguely remember reading that somewhere.

Ladies and gentlemen, the 2024 Republican nominee for president:

@MattF:
I saw Stanley Turrentine there twice!
Elizabelle
FTF NY Times had a good column on Marie Yovanovitch today. David Leonhardt. Naturally it’s not by one of the stenographers who might lose access or upset a Republican.
Mueller and Comey Failed Their Tests. She Passed Hers.
Marie Yovanovitch chose her country over what others might think of her.
catclub
Isn’t Pete Sessions not running for re-election. I wonder if he wants to get himself out of the impeachment (and related prosecutions) spotlight.

@germy:
OMG, it’s Fat Eric Trump!
opiejeanne
@Aimai: I remember you.
catclub
@germy: i find it amazing that thre have been demonstrations in HK for 6 months and about 1 fatality.
meanwhile in Iraq, there have been hundreds killed in demonstrations.
opiejeanne
@Duane: Sowed. He’s not stitched up, yet.
Immanentize
@opiejeanne: Someone had to say that. Thanks

I’ll just leave this here.
Jay
@germy:
yup, and tuk tuk drivers, grandma’s and grandpaws, teachers, etc,……
Adam L Silverman
He didn’t run in 2018 and was replaced with a Democrat if I’m recalling correctly. Apparently he was considering a run in an adjacent district in 2020, but this may be the end of that.
Elizabelle
Whoa. Someone else is shrill at the FTF NY Times today. Marie Yovanovitch’s example has put some steel in some writers’ spines.
Tom Friedman does not mince words.
Mike Pompeo: Last in His Class at West Point in Integrity
The secretary of state’s behavior has been cowardly and self-serving.
Keith P
@geg6: Why can nobody in the Trump universe (other than the long-gone Mooch) wear a properly-fitted suit? If they’re under 40 (i.e. Jared, Miller…I’ll even throw in Spicer), the suit’s look like they came from the Boy’s Department; if they’re over 70 (or, inexplicably, Andrew Giuliani) they wear these giant Talking Heads suits.
germy
@Jay:
Watching DW news on our local PBS World channel, they keep reporting violent demonstrations, but then when they show footage it’s basically police lobbing tear gas at peaceful protesters.
?BillinGlendaleCA
OT: Thanks all for the kind comments for my pics in the “On The Road” post this morning, I crashed out early last night and didn’t get to comment in real time. I also answered a couple of folk who had questions in several comments after I’d woke from my slumber.
germy
@Keith P: bullet proof vests make any suit bulky. That’s my guess, anyway.
geg6
@Keith P:
Yes! That’s exactly it! That crazy gigantic suit that David Byrne wears in “Stop Making Sense!”

Hong Kong as a port, handles 18% of China’s imports and exports, as a FinCen and Corporate HQ, about 54%.
Crippling Hong Kong’s protests also cripples China’s economy.
In contrast, in Iraq, the people in power and the security forces are factional. Many of the “security forces” are just gangs with badges and a political patron.

Jay
@Elizabelle:
Tom only borrowed the spine. He has to return it later today.
Wapiti
@Elizabelle: Hopefully that’s a sign.
Friedman calling Pompeo a slimy coward is a good start.
the Conster
I’m convinced that Trump has only recently come to understand that he can’t fire Nancy Pelosi, nor control her, nor threaten her in any way, and that’s what put him in the hospital.
I just also want to say that her superpower is the ability to control the drip drip drip of information for as long as it takes to drive him absolutely mad, and letting Mitch McConnell get his filthy mitts on the House investigation is the last thing she intends to happen, unless it’s the right time of her choosing.
O. Felix Culpa
The applause clip brought me to tears. The ambassador deserves the accolades. I’ve been on the receiving end of a workplace smear campaign at a MUCH lower level and it is indeed devastating. She is a hero.
Jay
@germy:
It’s a standard media meme globally.
When Nazi’s stabbed bystanders and protesters at Berkley, the FBI investigated antifa for possible violations of the KKK’s Civil Rights and the DA brought criminal charges against a school teacher for pushing away from the victim a Nazi who was stabbing someone.
SSDD.
Gin & Tonic
@germy: Dude needs a tailor.
The Moar You Know
@Keith P: You know damn well Mooch wasn’t fired for his ambivalent relationship with the truth. Knowing this bunch, I’ll bet someone remarked that he didn’t look like he’d just stolen his suit from the Salvation Army and Trump just said “he’s gone”.
John Revolta
@Duane: Think you mean rips. He rips what he’s sewn.
You’re welcome.
WaterGirl
@Aimai: glad to see you here! I know that used to make you crazy,
Dan B
@O. Felix Culpa: It takes a woman to get it done. I wonder if Mueller and Comey were anxious about seeing the guys at the club, the one that Yovanovich and Vindman would not be welcomed at, at least not with open arms.
The contrast with Moscow Mule’itch and Ambassador Yovanovich is stark. The emotions put Yovanovich in a beam of light and Mitch in a dark that vampires would relish.
rikyrah
@the Conster:
He finds out that Nancy Smash has completely schooled him, and it pisses him off.
I’m still back at her taking time during her press conference last week to actually define the word for him. Not that I think he understood what the word meant, but, that it was so cold, and that she didn’t break a sweat as she went back to ‘ regular programming’ once she did it.
rikyrah
@O. Felix Culpa:
The one at the end of her testimony got to me. Watched it over and over.
p.a.
They deserve much much worse, but at least being debased in public is a start at some consequences for these fascists congresscritters.
Boris, Rasputin's Evil Twin
@John Revolta: Reaps what he has sown.
Now that we’ve fixed, that it’s time for a drink or seven.

@germy:
I got “Phillipa Fallon Performs “High School Drag” in High School Confidential when I clicked that Youtube link.
And when I used the Youtube search to look for Amb. Yovanovitch all I got was clips of Impeachment testimony, even when I included Blues Alley in the search terms. But B J is kinda wacky for me today, buttons quit working, back button goes anywhere but the my previous location, etc. Should reboot, I guess, but that won’t fix Youtube…
So glad to see Tom Friedman woke up after 15 years of napping! His description of the scum in our government was accurate, if four years too late!

@germy:
There was a time when I had that scene memorized. Love Uncle Fester on piano.
zhena gogolia
@J R in WV:
It was a joke. Since the High School Confidential scene is in a jazz club.
topclimber
@Keith P: Along these lines, has anyone started a go fund me for Jim Jordan so he can buy a complete suit? Something in a tan shade perhaps.
Yutsano
@rikyrah:
That was one of the best nonna moments ever.
zhena gogolia
@topclimber:
I got an e-mail from somebody who used that premise as a fundraising technique and claimed to be running against him.
Anya
@germy: I don’t like when people pick on the kids. He hasn’t done anything so why is he the focus.
also, too, does Trump know the younger Giuliani voted for Obama?
O. Felix Culpa
@Anya: Andrew Giuliani is another nepotism hire as Public Liaison Assistant to Donald Trump. He’s an adult who chose to associate and advance himself with this corrupt administration, so fair game. Agree that minor children should be left out. Andrew is not one of them.
