Here’s my first contribution from this side of things. Let’s see if it works.
So far today, two billionaires have become very upset.
I took a screenshot of the Blankfein tweet because I figured that someone would tell him about the racism and he would take it down, but it’s been up for four hours now.
[Individual 1] mistermix
I guess this brings up the age-old question of whether being an asshole is in your DNA.
LanceThruster
Wonder if Duval Patrick, on the board of Bain Capital, will get much traction.
Princess
“Maybe tribalism is just in her DNA.”
My guess is the racism was intended.
mrmoshpotato
Would these fuckers like some Easy Cheese up the nose with their whine?
Apparently it’s Easy Cheese I’m thinking of, not Whiz.
Formerly disgruntled in Oregon
@Princess: Asshole thinks he’s being clever. Racist garbage. F that guy.
germy
If someone dared to say that about Blankfein there’d be hell to pay. But that sort of casual racism is tolerated when it comes to Native Americans, apparently.
Chyron HR
Wow, are we going to be revisited by every “BERNIE IS YOUR GOD, YOU FUCKERS” asshole from 2016?
LanceThruster
This link portrays him as an attempt to kneecap Warren.
opiejeanne
@Princess: I thought so too. He probably thought he was being clever by pointing out her DNA test.
catclub
But I would not be surprised if she is MORE generous on a percentage basis.
ETA!: He could also say he has avoided more taxes than she ever paid, doing it.
opiejeanne
@Chyron HR: For some reason I have you pied, and I can’t seem to remove you from the pie list.
opiejeanne
@catclub: Yup. He just outed himself really badly. “I’m really REALLY fucking rich so I can give more to charity in one year than you can ever contribute in your entire life, because you don’t make enough to contribute that much, but I don’t feel it because it’s a pittance.”
What a nice guy.
CapnMubbers
@opiejeanne: Yup. mostly trying to see if my nym sticks this time.
FlyingToaster
Warren has been making all the right enemies.
She also has a “Billionaire Tears” mug up at her merch site, which I have to buy, now.
I swear, next time I know I’ll see Governor Patrick, I’m wearing my “She Persisted” shirt.
Baud
Name one.
It got Trump elected.
Percysowner
Probably. On a different site I posted in the comments that Deval Patrick getting into the race was a reaction to the fear of Warren and I got jumped on because “It’s Bernie, he did it first, he did it better. It’s all because of Bernie and they fear him most of all.”
And Yay! BJ remembered my nym and email!
Cacti
I see the DNA test is still a sensitive topic for the Warren folk.
Comrade Colette Collaboratrice
“She doesn’t know who the f— she’s tweeting.”
Will these self-important fuckers EVER figure out that any variation on “do you know who I am?” will do nothing except reveal their assholeishness?
Kraux Pas
Wonder if Duval Patrick, on the board of Bain Capital, will get much traction.
I volunteered for his reelection campaign for governor. He definitely would have been on my radar if he joined the race like months ago. Now… As far as Warren, claims that she’s vilifying the wealthy are bunk. She asks the wealthy for more, yes, and she vilifies those who got/maintained their money by exploitation. So that argument is clearly being perpetuated by exploitatative people and bad listeners.
Ruckus
@Chyron HR:
I fucking hope NOT!
I like my politicians to at least have the ability to do the job, I’ve seen enough of those who don’t, and even if all they’ve got is the ability there’s always the chance they might use that, but without ability, the best you’ll get is did minimal damage.
prufrock
I’ve been an atheist a long time, but I’m still fond of the bible story where Jesus said that the poor woman who donated two shekels gave more than all of the rich assholes in the temple.
Edited: Two mites! Even more appropriate.
Kraux Pas
@Cacti: If Warren had claimed tribal membership or sought career advancement based on her heritage claims, they would be concerning. She did not, so I don’t see the issue.
If there’s a different reason you think this is a problem for her, please let me know. I’ll consider it.
Cacti
@Kraux Pas:
Yes, the Cherokee were deeply honored by her DNA test and welcomed it with open arms.
A true political masterstroke.
Kraux Pas
There seem to be some issues with how comments are formatted.
Kraux Pas
@Cacti: Oh almost forgot you’re a troll who doesn’t seriously engage any argument.
Chetan Murthy
With respect to @Cacti, I -do not- think it’s unreasonable to view things like “tribal” and “DNA” as innocent, when it comes to Warren-bashers, just as it’s not unreasonable to view anybody who brings up information security practices in discussing Hillary.
If someone’s going to do that, they need to carefully caveat and explain why they’re not just slagging.
So yeah, I think good ol’ “God’s work”[1] Lloyd was outta line there.
[1] Remember that doozie? The fucker. The fucker.
opiejeanne
@Cacti: I’m not a Warren folk. I’m a Harris folk, but I see that reference to her DNA test as a clumsy attempt to call her a racist. Or something.
Steve in the ATL
I started reading a novel the other day and the main character was Native American, drove a Cherokee, and carried a Tribal pistol. I didn’t give up until chapter 2 when it was reviewed that the tv in the safe house where the world savers took refuge was always tuned to fox “news”. Deleted, with a one star rating on Amazon.
opiejeanne
@Kraux Pas: Ok, now you’re on my pied list, and I don’t know why it’s showing up like this. I’ll try to get you removed.
Ok, never mind. You’re not pied permanently, if your comment was in response to someone on this thread who I do have pied. That would explain it, because half of the time when I reply to someone it doesn’t show the name of that person.
opiejeanne
@Kraux Pas: I think I know why you appear to be pied. I think you must have replied to a person on this thread that I have pied, but that person’s name was not displayed in your comment.
In order to get your nym visible in a post to you, I have to hit reply once, delete the comment box, then reply to you again, and there you are.
Kraux Pas
@opiejeanne: It doesn’t help the blockquote isnt working.
Betty Cracker
@Steve in the ATL: At least you had the good sense to bail when you saw where it was going. My sister has this thing where she has to finish any book she starts, no matter how awful. Life’s too short!
opiejeanne
@prufrock: These guys never went to Sunday school.
Sab
@Kraux Pas: I remember Warren saying about 10 years ago that she is all for capitalism and people getting rich, but there are some well paying jobs you just don’t take, for moral reasons. As I remember, she was referring to jobs with banks thriving off of predatory mortgages and excessive fees.
Apparently some folks’ feelings were hurt.
opiejeanne
@Kraux Pas: It seems to work for some people. I’m on a Mac right now, on Safari, and everything else seems to be working for me.
Sab
@Cacti: As I remember, there are three Cherokee tribes, two in Oklahoma, and only one of the three had an issue with her.
LanceThruster
@Percysowner:
I don’t like the idea of you getting jumped on for your comment, but I feel most of the kneecapping is aimed at Bernie. Before the BJ move when I still couldn’t comment, I’d see endless references to anytime Warren was polling well somewhere, but crickets for similar strong showings for Bernie.
I’ve been banned since right around HRC’s loss, with more blocks that popped up whenever I was able to get back in after talking to JC. Bernie is regularly mocked here as “Wilmer” and “Shouty McFingerwag” and similar vitriol is directed at Tulsi for whatever reason. Occasionally I’ll see critiques of other candidates similar to my own views, but anything I might say is viewed through the lens of my previous and continued support for Bernie.
I find it somewhst ironic that Bernie’s platform was largely pilloried here, but if Warren champions it, it becomes a non-issue.
Searcher
How many billionaires have announced this cycle?
When I googled it the other day, there were only ~600 US billionaires, so I feel like there’s a strong possibility we have 1% of US billionaires running for President.
I also wonder, what percent of US billionaires will run for President in their lifetime. 10%?
Kraux Pas
@opiejeanne: I’m on a phone using Chrome but the tags are in text, I don’t know why it should matter.
Then maybe that’s why I haven’t finished my computer science degree yet.
LanceThruster
@opiejeanne:
I always loved how some people would proudly announce their pies like a toddler making a poopy.
LanceThruster
@Kraux Pas:
Al Gore never said he invented the internet either, but it stuck as a way for opponents to belittle him. I think that unfortunately, Warren is in a similar position with the Pocahontas dig. It was probably even a worse move to put forth the DNA test as being thought of as proof somehow of her contention. Some indigenous groups indicated that they found that in itself troubling.
I take her at her word that it was part of her family lore. My concern for her candidacy and my own lack of support for it is based on other more relevant factors. I have no doubt Trump would whip up his own base relentlessly with that taunt, nothingburger that it is.
Cacti
@LanceThruster:
Because Warren didn’t help deliver the White House to Trump in 2016.
That’s why your god will always be viewed as scum around these parts.
Steeplejack
@Kraux Pas:
Sounds like you might be in Text mode when commenting. Try pressing the Visual tab and see what that gets you.
Cacti
@LanceThruster:
As for comrade Tulski, she’s a lifelong wingnut cult member, cosplaying as a Dem so that she could have a political career in Hawaii.
The mask drops every time she needs comfort, and leaps into the arms of Breitbart and Fox News.
Percysowner
Using you as a test for replies, sorry.
LanceThruster
@Cacti:
Actually she did. She endorsed the candidate that Dolt 45 beat.
mrmoshpotato
@Cacti:
And also Warren didn’t get beaten like a rented mule, having mathematically lost the nomination by May, yet still didn’t drop out and had the nerve to pout at the convention.
Additionally, if she doesn’t win the nomination, she won’t scream that the primary was rigged but will instead tell her supporters to back the nominee if they want anything close to what she was proposing, because they surely won’t get anything close to income equality with four more years of Dump.
laura
Hey Lloyd, nothing better to grease the guillotine like the creamy fat of the billionaire class.
I’m calling bullshit on the big money boys for their charitable giving as it’s really just a tax avoidance method that gets them some decent press.
Confiscatory tax rates to wring the idle capital out of their soft hands….
Shalimar
@LanceThruster: You seriously can’t understand why people have vitriol towards Tulsi? Wow. Work on your reading comprehension. People love giving their reasons.
Cacti
@LanceThruster:
Warren is a disaster waiting to happen because she’s trying to make your god’s ideas sound intelligent and plausible.
Impossible.
Humdog
As a Democrat, worry is my natural state. I think we will have a hard row to hoe trying to beat back the Evangelicals, white nationalists and anti feminists. I think the super rich are just fine with fascism. I love Warren’s multitude of plans, it tickles my inner wonk.
But I worry trying to openly take on all these moneyed bozos as well as surmounting the other troglodytes mentioned above will be too much. We cannot not win, too many people will continue to be badly hurt. I think this country needs someone like Warren but too many can be convinced to not vote for her.
Ugh, again, all we need is better voters. All!?!?!?
mrmoshpotato
@laura: The well-off, including Bill Gates, also tend to give the bare minimum.
Steve in the ATL
@Betty Cracker: I used to be that way too, but in my old age overcame that bit of OCD. Especially since I can get a replacement book on my kindle in a few seconds.
I almost quit reading “red sparrow” when the [minor spoiler alert] the congressperson committing treason with Russia is a California Democrat, but it was otherwise a really good book.
Cacti
@Steve in the ATL:
They got Dana Rohrabacher’s party wrong. But everything else was right.
Shalimar
@LanceThruster: Bernie honeymooned in the Soviet Union. Republicans are going to beat up the Democratic candidate relentlessly for something regardless of who it is. That is what they do. It isn’t specific to Warren.
Also, they will find something better than the tribal controversy. Nobody actually cares about it.
trollhattan
Now that’s just crazy talk! She’ll take the rest of the

strikethoughbutton back. Yay!Zinsky
Somehow I don’t believe that Blankfein was even aware that he was making a snide reference to Elizabeth Warren’s indigenous background. Rich white privileged assholes like him are usually incredibly self-unaware. Look at Trump. Warren is the only Dem candidate that makes sense from a holistic point of view.
LanceThruster
@Cacti:
I felt the same way about she-who-must-not-be-named (as it triggers some folks) and we saw how that turned out. Did we do more than the Russians or less?
But that’s water under the bridge. Bernie’s been quite the juggernaut this go round with some powerful endorsements early. It kills the DNC that AOC knocked off Crowley, who was next in line for Pelosi’s speakership. He’s also polling quite well, and that’s with a dearth of coverage. His rallies are record breaking. Those of the rest… not so much.
robmassing
Cacti –
How do you see that? Blankfein is the one tweeting about it.
LanceThruster
@Shalimar:
Sadly, these contests are reminiscent of Thunder Dome. Momentum sways whenever one side smells blood in the water. I find Bernie more than capable of holding his own against anyone. Trump would be soundly thrashed.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
Blankfein sounds like a Bond villain name, boy howdy does Warren know who to provoke. lol
westyny
The St. Bernard troll actually voted for Stein. Or so they’ve claimed. Protest vote in blue California and all that . . .
LanceThruster
@Shalimar:
I see some over the top statements like she’s a cult member, but I like her statements against needless wars. I also liked her integrity in calling out the DNC in 2016.

Cooperman: “As far as the accusations of insider trading, I won the case. She’s disgraceful.”
Reality: “Hedge fund manager Leon G. Cooperman and his firm Omega Advisors have agreed to settle insider trading charges and beneficial ownership reporting violations by paying nearly $5 million and subjecting themselves to onsite monitoring by an independent compliance consultant with access to their electronic communications and trading records.
The settlement, subject to court approval, would conclude litigation that included a significant ruling in favor of the SEC after the agency filed its complaint against Cooperman and Omega in September 2016.
Monetary Sanctions
Cooperman and Omega agreed to pay:
$1,759,049 in disgorgement of ill-gotten gains
$429,041in pre-judgment interest
$1,759,049 in penalty for the insider trading violation
$1,000,000 penalty for the beneficial ownership reporting violations (ordered as to Cooperman only)
Independent Consultant
To guard against insider trading, Cooperman and Omega must retain an onsite independent compliance consultant until 2022 (unless Omega Advisors ceases to be a registered investment adviser prior to that date).”

Shalimar
@LanceThruster: Have you read Gabbard’s history? She was literally raised by an offshoot of the Hare Krishnas run by a guy who very clearly has been a textbook cult leader. The guy is still alive, her dad is still a member. Tulsi was definitely in a cult for most of her life. The only question is whether she still is.
Roger Moore
@LanceThruster:
Mostly because she’s an apologist for Assad.
LanceThruster
@Shalimar:
I remember how she quite poignantly describe her upbringing being a part of her earlier LGBT views and that they changed. HRC’s views on same sex marriage evolved too. I’m not keen on her views on Modi, but then Indian foreign exchange students at my university were OK with Modi themselves.
I think for any of us, there are aspects and positions that are deal breakers. I’ve not seen that for Gabbard, but have for others in the race. Harris for instance, did not prosecute criminal banks and Mnuchin, and now Mnuchin has a damn cabinet position.
My Side of Town
An open thread, eh? Well I’m looking for advice. I have allotted 100/per month for political donations. So far, I’m sending Jamie Harrison 25. Amy McGrath 25 and Sara Gideon 25 because I think they have a decent shot at winning senate seats against truly evil opponents and I think at this point my dough would be wasted on presidential or house candidates. So who would be good to spend my final 25 on in the senate?
TomatoQueen
In the case of Blankfein, over time he’s been consistent enough that the DNA answer is inescapable.
Uncle Jeffy
Cooperman’s language! Tsk, tsk!
Nice talk, Sugarmouth. You kiss your mother with that mouth?
Humdog
@My Side of Town: How about Mark Kelly in AZ? Good on you for your early support of Dem candidates!
LanceThruster
@Roger Moore:
One, that’s false. Two, the prevailing Syrian narrative elevates the very terrorist forces tearing the country apart. The gassing claims were specious to the point of being laughable. Getting rid of Asssad would likely turn Syria into the “success” that our machinations did in Libya.
John Cole
@LanceThruster: You were banned not because Hillary lost, but because you are a total asshole when it comes to all things Bernie. You literally see her name or his and you go insane and post eleventyseven manic comments. Do not do that here (although I see you have already started) or you will face the same consequences.
John Cole
@Barney: He considers that winning because he was fined less than the amount her stole, thus a net win. You need to think like a bankster.
Shalimar
@LanceThruster: So you do understand why people think she’s a cult member and are terrified by that, you just don’t agree that she is still in the cult. That is not what you said at first.

@Kraux Pas:
nope. Two strikes have been reported so far.
#1, Bain under his leadership went big on Foreclosures in Minority Neighborhoods, which has not been forgotten.

That’s a bit subjective. Bernie is hated here on a level that’s certainly curious. I followed the comment rules as far as I know. I responded in kind at times, but generally tackled anything thrown my way in a serious and respectful manner.
Bernie is a candidate. It’s a primary. There’s been polls but not a single vote has been cast.
If expressing an non anti-Bernie thought is verboten, say the word. I’ll take my leave. Otherwise, my own personal view is backed by a single vote. Same as anyone else’s.
Kraux Pas
@LanceThruster: I agree that the tenor of Bernie hatred here verges on the extreme but I managed to get pretty heated at some people and not be banned.
And now we have much better choices.
Cacti
I can’t help but notice your lack of response for her ongoing love affair with right wing media.
Mnemosyne
@Zinsky:
Oh, Blankfein knew. It’s an article of faith that Warren knowingly lied about having Cherokee ancestry and when she released her DNA test showing it was true, they decided that it wasn’t true enough.
So, yeah, Blankfein deliberately used a racist slur against Warren, but he thinks it’s okay because she’s not a “real” Native American.
LanceThruster
@Shalimar:
Is her so-called cult status reason to kick her out of the military? She’s been vetted to a certain degree to reach the rank and status she has. HRC had ties to The Family iirc (her bible study with The Fellowship).
In answer to your question, those fearing her seem a bit like those convinced Freemasons are agents of Satan or whatever. I’d have to dig to see if her religious views are a red flag. I’m an atheist myself so I’m out of sync with believers of most any stripe.
I like the Jew that dares to say Palestinians are people deserving of safety and security like anyone else.
On a side note, is anyone excited about the feelers Hillary seems to be putting out for another run? Has her time come and gone, or is she posdibly the new Comeback Kid?
Cacti
Why do you speak of the Bernie 2016 campaign as being separate from the Russians.
Tad Devine was Paul Manafort’s partner, and spent years on the Kremlin payroll.
LanceThruster

Well, no one was able to point to a violation of the comment rules either. I consider it a sign of respect to share my views openly and honestly in the arena of ideas. I always say, “Bring out your champions!”
No amount of walking on eggshells in here ever seemed to make a difference.
I took John’s comment before the move about a new dynamic for interactions in here seriously. Can’t change the past, but some appear stuck in the exact same rut. I can’t help that. Can only speak for myself.

It’s her words. She says she’s learned to “never, never, never say never,” and that she’s under tremendous pressure to run from “many, many, many people.”
It was an honest question. She’s not my candidate so it’s not my call. I’m glad Bernie’s back in it. Wondered what those who supported her in 2016 thought about the possibility. It was Mark Penn who wrote an op-ed some time ago that he expects she will.
Mnemosyne

@Mnemosyne: I hate to tell you this but in the last 2 days the Washington Post published an interview where she says she is getting a lot of pressure to run again. She also said she wasn’t but then hedged saying she would never say never. Another source said Bill said something in August. There is also a BBC interview a few days ago with the same kind of thing. Google Hillary interview and you’ll find reputable links.
that said, WaPo pointed out filling deadlines are already closing so the odds are against her. She also said she didn’t intend to endorse in the primary, but support strongly our candidate.
She has a history of saying she would never say never before other try’s and didn’t end up trying. It’s part of her personal guidelines.

The point was that the murmers were coming from her. I think she sees the writing on the wall, but I was curious if it actually happened would she still have the people who touted her qualifications so emphatically in 2016 on board again. I’ve seen the phrase “Hillary was right about everything!” more than a few times in here. It’s not a completely implausible hypothetical.
waysel
Excellent opportunity to try out the new pie filter. I’m happy to announce Lance Thruster as my first ever pie filteree, regardless of it’s disdain for such pronouncements. Long live pie!
Jinchi
Yeah… Hillary Clinton isn’t running in 2020 and I wouldn’t read too much into a comment like that. Because she does get a lot of pressure to run again – from every reporter she ever sits down at an interview with, and I’m sure she has lots of fans in the audience when she give talks who would love for her to do it. Telling them that “No, I’m not going to run for president this year” would invite the question “What about 2024?!” Telling them that “No, I’m not running for president.” Invites the doubtful reaction “Really…..?” So she throws out a non-commital “never say never” and lets the listener fill in whatever blanks they prefer. But whatever you think of her, she’s pragmatic, and if she were going to run this year she would have announced about the same time Biden did.
Suffice it to say that she probably thinks a lot about what the world would look like if she had been able to make the choices that Trump made instead, and she undoubtedly thinks it would look a whole lot better than it does in our reality.
Kattails
I have already had to skim over most of this thread because of this individual, was on the verge of using the pie filter last incarnation when he mercifully disappeared. A bit late to the “will Hillary run again” party, but as for why she frequently says “never say never”, I think this has largely to do with the fact that it gets under Trump’s skin, and she knows it! And more power to her for doing so! ;)
