Chants of “Lock Him Up” at tonight’s @BernieSanders rally in Minneapolis. pic.twitter.com/58NT6dQ7ZP

To clear up any confusion, these “Lock Him Up” chants were made by the crowd while Sen. @BernieSanders was calling on Pres. Trump to be impeached.
Sanders did not participate in the chants, and did nothing to stop them from occurring.

I flipped through Twitter a little while ago, and saw people who had tut-tutted about the chant at the World Series game saying “See! This means we were right about how bad that was!”
Nope. Yes, Sanders could have made it clear this is bothsiderist bullshit by shutting it down, which would have been a great service, but it’s still not a sign of “normalizing” calls to lock up political opponents. We have a president* who literally has only not been indicted because the Justice Department says he can’t be.

[Trump] added that it is “#1 in the country for going down.”
I dunno, going down, done correctly, ranks very high all over California, my friends tell me. I do remember a period of time in Los Angeles (Los Feliz, to be specific) going down was a very memorable #1, along with some other #1 items.
Edit: but at least Trump gives SF a number 1 in something. Good to know.

@Redshift: And also, how many Nationals fans chanting “Lock him up!” were being egged on by a Presidential candidate? Hell – Dump’s first national security advisor* was leading a “Lock her up!” chant at the RNC.
*Flynn’s currently awaiting sentencing – fuck ’em!

Trump also nonsensically ragged on California for the recent fires, and our water. He’s still fixated on Finnish forest raking, which he says we don’t do, but is magic and we are stupid for not doing it. I heard a news report that the recent fires were mostly shrubland and chaparral. Note sure what burned most, shrubland or forests in the Kincaide fire, since there is a lot of both up around there. But, I see no reason to doubt the news report. Raking manzanita litter will be a real chore. But might pay for itself if we can get people hooked on manzanita tea, which is very good.
I heard on the news that Trump wants California to ‘stop’ the Sacramento river from going into the sea, whatever that is supposed to mean. Feds would need to spring some big bucks that that, though. Seems like a big job. Maybe Trump will talk about funding it during the next infrastructure week.

@mrmoshpotato: Clearly, it’s the crazy radical commie Democrats’ fault that half the country is so enraged at the stupid criminal behavior of a stupid criminal president that they want him impeached, convicted and removed from office, and they start spontaneously chanting ‘Lock him up!’ whenever they sense any excuse at all to do so.
Edit: Fox and Friends probably has secret video of Bernie agitating the crowd at the martial arts match to shout ‘Lock him up!’. And the world series game. It was outside agitators!
mrmoshpotato
@jl: Yeah! Totally not the fault of the the stupid criminal behavior of a stupid criminal president.

Far as I remember, that particular complaint arose from maintaining the salinity of the water in the delta, which would in turn maintain habitat for the CA Smelt. And who would do that other than an environmentalist whackjob? Hannity was pushing hard on that issue during the 2016 campaign, saying it was all for the farmers.
Mary G
@JWR: Farmers want more water from the Delta for their almonds, salinity be damned. Those channels are the “lanes” Twitler is nattering on about.
Martin
@jl: I’m assuming that’s in reference to the Delta Tunnels. It’s still a pretty fucking stupid statement.
For those who don’t know, part of CAs large agricultural footprint is our fisheries. That’s about 100K jobs there, and there’s a pull and push between water use for fisheries and agriculture. The Delta is especially tricky because in summer/fall seawater would flow inland and then in the spring snowmelt would push it back with freshwater. The ecosystem kind of relies on that back and forth. Further complicating the situation is that most of the delta is below sea level.

Bill Bennett looks like he just wants to see the Ring one more time before he goes West.
JWR
@Mary G: Yep. I remember Hannity holding up a Smelt and saying to the farmers gathered about that “This! This little guppy is why you can’t have nice things!”, or something to that effect.

@JWR: And then Hannity explained the nuances of it all in detail, right?

Why aren’t people booing Drump on Twitter?
From that NYT article, I got the idea that whatever people tweet to his @-handle shows up on his feed.
So why isn’t everyone just pounding him with 248-chatacters worth of “boo” and “boo you loser” all day?

Trump wants California to ‘stop’ the Sacramento river from going into the sea, whatever that is supposed to mean.
There’s a big Shasta dam on the upper Sacramento. Republican big-money agricultural landowners in the Westlands water district in the southern Central Valley lust for more water to further raise the value of the land that they bought cheaply when it wasn’t irrigated, and the Trump admin is pandering to them by pushing to raise the Shasta dam higher. All previous administrations, Democratic and Republican, have looked at the project and said “Nope. Not gonna use tax dollars for an environmentally-destructive project just to further enrich private landowners” — so of course the Trumpies are all in. Environmental groups and the CA government are resisting, but the project is slowly moving forward. It will make the level of the Lake Shasta reservoir even more variable than it already is, reduce summer streamflow in the lower Sacramento, facilitate saltwater intrusion into the delta, and drown the lower McCloud River, one of California’s nicest remaining fishing streams.
Devotees of gasoline-powered recreation on Lake Shasta are said to be in favor.
