So, our criminal president is (by Turkish proxy) bringing death down upon innocents who thought they could trust US friendship. His party, most of them so far, is just fine with that. He is actively working with every bad actor available to enrich himself and steal the next election. He is publicly admitting new impeachable offenses more or less on the hour. And there’s a non-zero chance that as the walls close in on his criminal enterprise he’ll find new ways to kill lots of the rest of us.
So I don’t know about you, but I could use a break. So here’s a couple of silly pictures that managed to make me laugh through the madness.
1: From a professor’s office at an undisclosed west coast institution of higher learning (the pic. was smuggled to me):
2: An oldie — a picture I took at the ASU bookstore a few years ago. Puts a whole new dimension of meaning into the imperative “Publish or Perish”:
3: And finally, inspired by Pat Robertson asserting that Trump has lost the “Mandate of Heaven” — my absolutely true story, no lie, factual to the bone image of the new yacht the Shitgibbon just picked up from the Dowager Empress Cixi*
David ??Merry Christmas?? Koch
At age 89, Pat Robertson proves, yet again, that only the good die young.

I am glad this is an open thread, because I just read this:
Woman who filmed Dallas police officer Amber Guyger shoot Botham Jean fired (video)
She was fired from her job at a pharmaceutical company and her credentials revoked after the company received threatening phone calls. She took a video which was not released to the public and which she is not allowed to discuss.
Another witness, Joshua Brown, was shot in the back and killed this past Friday.
Texas racist justice.

I’ll be spending most of November out of the country with sporadic internet connections. I’m find I’m looking forward to having my news supply cut off. Maybe Trump will be gone when I get home.

@Mary G: We’re flying to Barcelona, then taking a cruise on a ship that’s repositioning from the Mediterranean to the South Atlantic. There are stops in Casablanca, Dakar, and then along the South American coast–lots of places I’ve never been before. In a very un-American way, I’m in the process of trying to gain back some weight I lost because my doctor told me I had to. So besides the interesting stops, I’m hoping to eat my way across the Atlantic.

Am hoping Cole is off doing a happy dance somewhere because for the second time this campaign cycle the Dem candidate for WV Governor broke the state’s campaign finance portal trying to report a record number of campaign contributions:

Pretty much, thanks. The shoulder was never much of a problem—nice, clean 7" slit, very thin. The forearm scars (area about 6" by 3"), more complicated and messy, have taken longer to heal. They’re no longer red and angry—more like “still slightly concerned about something.” Haven’t quite faded to “old scars” status. And, somewhat to my surprise (two months out from the operation), the area is still a little tender to the touch. I’m still occasionally lubing it with Aquaphor when it feels tight, but that is less and less often.

Hoisted up from downstairs, where there was a brief discussion of Ken Burns’s Country Music.

Country Music is available to stream at the PBS site (temporarily, I presume).

@Dorothy A. Winsor: This is why sexual harassment workshops at universities can be a blast to attend.
“So what are some examples of sexual harassment? Looking at pornography in a shared office.”

“Uh, I study pornography. My research team analyzes and discusses forms of pornography ”
“Uh, how about exposing yourself to a coworker?”

“We’re doing a performance of Hair right now and a number of our students expose themselves during the production”
It legit turns into a challenge the sexual harassment trainers exercise.

As it happens, Toyota is a Japanese company. Selling stadium naming rights to corporations s not merely an American practice these days: Bayern Munich play at Allianz Arena, Arsenal at Emirates Stadium, Manchester City at the Etihad (the latter two are named after middle Eastern airlines). Liverpool FC’s Anfield Stadium is named after the neighbourhood it is in.

@Amir Khalid: Am aware Toyota is a Japanese company. Just found it ironic that a Japanese company would own the name to an American sports venue. But then I just glanced through this list and apparently Honda (Anaheim Ducks) and Mercedes-Benz (Both the Falcons & the Saints ?!?) also own names. I am sure there are others & I guess on further reflection at least Honda & Toyota have manufacturing facilities in the US.
