No matter how grotesquely sexist / racist / classist the GOP as a whole devolves, Rep. ‘Pigmuck’ King will strive to be that little bit worse. From the Des Moines Register – “U.S. Rep. Steve King: If not for rape and incest, ‘would there be any population left?'” —
U.S. Rep. Steve King told the Westside Conservative Club on Wednesday that humanity might not exist if not for rape and incest.
“What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled those people out that were products of rape and incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?” he said at the event in Urbandale, Iowa…
The Kiron Republican was defending his position of not allowing exceptions for rape and incest in the anti-abortion legislation he tried to pass in Congress. Republican leadership had prevented the bills he sponsored on banning abortions from advancing through the House, despite GOP support for the measures, King said…
He actually said that, in front of the cameras — there’s video. Of course the whole forced-birth ‘But what if that aborted baby would’ve been the next Einstein?’ trope has been in use for at least the last forty years, but count on Rep. Pigmuck to bring his own personal touch. And he’s not sorry, either; he insists the outcry that’s greeted his flapmouth bigotry is nothing but a plot by his enemies…
… In the hours after his remarks to the breakfast meeting, condemnation of his comments poured in from Democrats, including those running for president, as well as some Republicans…
“People think it was an organic media feeding frenzy, but no, it was orchestrated from the beginning,” he said Wednesday. “They had told me, ‘Heads up before Christmas: They’re going to try to drive you out of office and get you to resign.’ Within 24 hours, you had people saying, ‘Resign, resign, resign.’ Why? Because the New York Times misquoted me?”
King said there was a plan for President Donald Trump to criticize him, as well, but he met with Trump and said there’s “no signal from Donald Trump that he’s anything other than supportive of me.”…
Well, that part we can surely believe.

The GOP: It Is What It Is, And It Refuses to Go Away:
… At a time in which white-supremacy and outright racism is pouring out of the White House, and a time in which these forces are literally getting people killed, a public television station has decided to roll back the stone and bring back Pat Buchanan, who is responsible more than most people for injecting this poison into the body politic generally and into the Republican Party in particular…
… Now, with all of these issues at a serious flashpoint, these public-television dopes decide to give Buchanan, who is somewhere between 80 and 400 years old, and who’s never been sure that the right side won World War II, another crack at spreading aged-in-the-wood venom on TV. Clift and Page should not be a part of this fiasco, either. The conservative Undead never will leave us.
He does. Let’s elect his Democratic challenger @JDScholten https://t.co/WEtdq1G91v

TY. Had to go to Twitter to see the new thread, btw. Now to see how many iterations of refreshing I need…
OK, um, still not seeing this post by refreshing the original window. And it’s getting worse. Hanging in for the new BJ, but damn. I have to wonder how many people are just frustrated beyond right now.
Ruckus
Not trying to burst your bubble or anything, first because I know you know the answer, but a lot of conservatives would think this line of bullshit, but Steve, he’s at the head of the line of conservative assholes. And I’m not sure that he hasn’t said worse in his miserable life. He’s the example that makes average people look great. Because by comparison they are. One of the worst examples of human life form actually breathing today.
SectionH
I think the actual answer is “most of them are like that, but quieter.”
Oh, and from Political Wire: Mr S and I are extremely not into conspiracy theories, but here you go Apparently reporting WaPo.

@SectionH:
Don’t think it’s the actual site that creates the reload/not reload issue. It’s the CDN, that is supposed to reload a site and have a reasonable copy on a server farm near you so that load times are better and the hosting server isn’t overloaded. So it’s either this place is far, far more viewed than people think or the CDN service is well, crap. As I understand that is supposed to change with the new site.
SectionH
@Ruckus: It’s ok, I’m… persistent. The lag on refreshing is much worse than it used to be, so I said something tonight, but I’m hanging in. One of my Twitter bookmarks is Cole’s feed, so I can check if there’s a new post up I haven’t seen. Yeah, gee, actual bookmarks…
SectionH
Oh, and in case anyone wants to kinda try to use Twitter to see what ppl you follow are posting, and in actual chronological order, you still can filter with: filter:follows -filter:replies It’s the only thing that keeps me there.

By dutifully steno-graphing his actual words. Apparently in Conservative Speak the meaning of ‘mis-quoted’ has morphed into “I said it, yeah, but asking me to defend it is biased and unfair.”

@SectionH: You might also try clearing the cache of your browser. Sometimes it can be corrupted.
Hopefully the new version of the website will not be trying to run javascript from so many other sites. I see a big difference between limiting it with NoScript and letting it run wild.

@Tony Jay:
Saying it is one thing. It’s in there, it falls out, it’s not his fault. When he hears/reads it he actually sees what it is that falls out of his mouth so easily. And often. I imagine that he’s also pissed because what he thought he said was probably a lot worse. I’d bet his asshole to human translator has a damn hard time to keep up with all the shit that falls out of his gob, or possibly that part that does that has broken from him huffing so much bullshit.

King was challenged by a constituent who was a fourth grade teacher. She said she had a 10 year old student who was raped by her uncle, whose parents chose a termination. The child would have probably died had she been forced to carry the pregnancy to term. The teacher said how can you risk the health of these children. King said he didn’t know such extreme cases could happen, he’d have to think about it. How about researching the effects of your legislation before trying to pass it rather than after? He didn’t realize that incest could involve pregnant 10 year olds, yet though that his thoughts should be taken seriously.

“I didn’t say anything wrong, I just tell the truth. You getting all bent out of shape about it just proves you’re out to get me. Fake Nooz!”
These people are a fucking cancer in every country on the globe.

When a RW politician floats the idea that rape and incest aren’t really that bad, you start wondering what indictments are looming up on the horizon.
SectionH
@TS (the original): Yes, that one. Thanks for a more obvious link.
@WhatsMyNym: That’s not a bad idea (clearing cache). I rely on BJ so yeah, even in the meantime, I wouldn’t mind not being quite so frustrated. Otoh, I won’t even tell you how many years old some the cookies I got rid of the other day were. To give my OS credit, I cleared everything i didn’t want in about 30 minutes. Hey, I’m cauuuutious. Or possibly the Maltese (read: Russian) adblocker – AdGuard – I have. Have to admit, it works really well. But I’m still hoping Ublock will get back to par, cause I really used to love them. Some fucking Apple upgrade caught them with their pants down, I guess…

Uh huh ?? ?

@rikyrah: Now we know why they didn’t release the autopsy sooner.
Raven
@JPL: Why, what’s the difference when they released it?

@SectionH
30 minutes? Optimally should take maybe a minute or two.
Try Ccleaner. For Windows – For Mac.
Free version works like gangbusters. Been using it safely and happily forever. Only caveat is, depending on from where the download might originate, sometimes it will try to install either Chrome or Avast along with itself. Just uncheck that box before continuing with the installation if you don’t want that. Installing the free version also now gives a free trial of the paid version, and (unfortunately) you will get prompts to upgrade until after that free trial runs out and your installed version automatically reverts to the free version. Just close the prompts when they appear.
As for stuff not showing up on the front page until sometime well after having been posted there, it’s been an ongoing although intermittent problem. You’re not alone.

@Raven: Why not?

@Gretchen:
I’d be shocked if King bothered to do any research after 4th grade teacher confronted him. He probably knows children get raped and pregnant but just doesn’t care. Republican congress critters may cringe when King is out and proud white supremacist but some of them are only marginally less vile than he is. They only care about “winning”.
SectionH
@NotMax: Well, since I’ve this machine for 6+ years, and that all the cookies I wanted to get rid of – for all those years – while keeping the ones I wanted to keep were dealt with in 30 minutes, I’m not that worried, but thanks, (No snark, TY) Maybe I could download the CCleaner, or at least gush about it someway so that Mr S would get it for his Chromebook. Heck, maybe I’ll check the Mac version out anyway. Couldn’t hurt.

@Amir Khalid:
Far be it from me to argue with you, sir, but I believe we already knew that, without the having the additional evidence you have provided

This is not news to those of us who keep tabs on the religious crazy contingent of the Republican party. Right winger religious nuts think this way all the time. King is just the most recent public release of what is standard anti-abortion fundie-thought in the US today, and has been for some time. THAT’S why they are having such success passing more and more restrictive abortion laws in Red States – there are millions of them out there, and they reliably vote. I live among them – friends, neighbors, co-workers… GOTV is the only way to hold the line against fundie religious insanity…
jonas
Sweet Jesus backflipping on a Triscuit, who are the voters who can listen to this guy and think “yessiree, that man has my vote”? Do they actually think like this, or is it just all about owning the libs or something? (And, by the way, if you’ve gotten to the point in your political life where you think talking frankly about the net benefits of rape and incest is a real dunk on your opponents, you need to reassess your life. Just sayin’.)
Capri
@bemused: “Do some research” and “Look into this further” is the standard non-response given by all politicians when they don’t know the answer or know their dogma sounds horrible in context.
In the entire clip, King opined that he was a product of incest. Might explain some things.
Mart
@Gretchen: They do not want exceptions for rape and incest as they know all the womans would lie about their pregnancy origins so they could still get an abortion. It is a feature to them, not a bug.

Lots more links where that came from, with recs for alternatives. Try search keywords: “ccleaner” “hacked” “2019”.
Failure to secure the supply chain is, uh, damning. Or should be, IMNSHO.
Tangentially, BlackHat USA 2019 was last week, looks like lots of juicy reveals.
