I swear, each month of 2020 will have its own history degree.

Almost as fun as hiking the Appalachian Trail

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

I went to the park to do some reading today. On the way there, I passed by some folks having a normal and good one, throwing us a MAGA rally across the street from Trump Tower. House left we have a sign that calls for the imprisonment of Hillary Clinton. You can’t see it, but the next MAGA hat over was wearing a shirt that said, “Hillary Lost, Ha Ha Ha.” They seemed to think mentioning the loser of the 2016 election was better than mentioning the winner.

You might notice, on the far right, the flags of Israel and South Korea. They were also chanting “We love Israel!” as I walked past. In other words, it was as coherent as any other right-wing rally I’ve ever seen. Sad!

I’m kind of surprised they used the correct Korean flag. At any rate, I soon moved on to better views.

How are the dregs of the weekend treating you? I did my writing this morning, so now I’m playing Kerbal Space Program. I bought the new expansion and started a new career mode game; I’m trying to make it to (and, the tricky part, from) the Mün.

Just had a nice late lunch/early dinner with my in-laws. We took two cars, so those of us in the car without house keys are waiting for the car that has them. Sigh.

The woman with the white hat, American flags, Bible, and hanging on to the (apparent) Donnie 2020 Keep America American flag, was certainly trying to cover all the bases.

What makes you think they used the correct Korean flag? Isn’t it equally likely they meant to praise NoKo?

Jennifer Rubin brought the fire in her column today:

In sum, we are awash in hate crimes and white nationalist-inspired mass murders. We have a president whose words inspire and bolster perpetrators of these heinous acts. That makes Trump not only a moral abomination, which no policy outcome can offset, but a threat to national security. Those encouraged by his words in recent years kill more Americans than Islamist terrorists. If that is not justification for bipartisan repudiation of this president and removal from office at the earliest possible moment I don’t know what is. Those who countenance and support this president for his white-grievance mongering are not merely “deplorable” but dangerous.

@Mike J: There are some posters leaning against the metal barriers on the right that seem to have Korean symbols on them. If so, they seemingly picked the correct flag for their message (whatever that message might be).

    Corrections welcome.

    Cheers,
    Scott.

    @Orange is the New Red:
They are conservatives, maybe they are conserving a sign they made years ago. Maybe the guy’s a moron and has no idea what day or even what year it is. Or maybe he’s a moron who thinks that HRC got an unfair review of her many lawbreaking law abiding shenanigans that have paid off so well for her. You know being first lady, being SoS, winning the popular vote or possibly he’s pissed that she fixed the EC vote so she’d lose……. Whatever it is there is probably zero logic behind the concept.

How are your rendezvous/docking skills? An Apollo-style ‘lander goes to the surface, then docks with orbiting return craft’ works a lot better than a single ship which does everything. Assuming, of course, the rendezvous and docking parts….

The robotic parts in the expansion are fun to play with; the new surface science stuff they added are more ‘meh’ IMO.

And that should by ‘our grandsons” to avoid confusion.

Back from a weekend in the Hamptons, at a friend’s house. Lovely time, and the Atlantic was not too unbearably cold yesterday so I actually swam in the ocean for the first time in a couple years (rather than my usual habit of dipping my feet and saying, “That’s enough!”), but the trip back to the house was spoiled by the sight of some rich a-hole flying a Trump flag from his docked boat. Blergh.

Now trying to motivate myself for a run in Central Park (the north end, though, opposite end from where M4 was). Blergh also, but for different reasons.

@dmsilev: I am. He’s quite good at it as he has an encyclopedic knowledge of pretty much anything sent into space. A few years ago we went up to JPLs open house and he corrected an engineer regarding what kind of rocket launched his satellite. He learned programming and digital logic playing Minecraft. He got into 3D modeling after getting his Solidworks certification. He’ll tell me what he’s working on and I’ll throw some curve at him “it’d be really cool if it could do X” knowing full well that’s hard as shit to do, and then he figures it out. My little contribution to the quality of that set. There’s a few features in there just for me.

I’m quite experienced at Factorio as well. Building a 1 RPM (rocket per minute) base now in 0.17, trying to do it with some recursive blueprints. Because the only thing better than playing video games is teaching them to mostly play themselves.

Coming to the end of our holiday on the Black Isle in northern Scotland, having enjoyed a series of ridiculously sunny days for a place roughly on the same latitude as Oslo. Drinking local beer in the tent while listening to the waves pound the rocks about 20 metres away. Home on Wednesday, when I can again start fretting about the absolute clustershite my country is being dipped in by the Second Rump Parliament.

Roll on the Election, I so want to vote these white-blooded pricks out.
