Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Where tasty lettuce and good mustard aren’t elitist.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Militantly superior in their own minds…

All your base are belong to Tunch.

This really is a full service blog.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Tick tock motherfuckers! Tick fucking tock!

We need fewer warriors in public service and more gardeners.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Nevertheless, she persisted.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

We have all the best words.

What fresh hell is this?

Just a few bad apples.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

I swear, each month of 2020 will have its own history degree.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

For those in the press who think "optics" is more important than the devastating testimony of Mueller, here is a multimedia presentation from @HouseJudiciary just for you. I wanted the music set to Bad Guy by Billie Eilish, but this is still very good.#FridayMotivation https://t.co/IUh1o2qtnE

— Ted Lieu (@tedlieu) July 27, 2019

Worth repeating:

Chuck Rosenberg highlighted just how far our “news” has strayed from earnest investigatory reporting to unbridled propaganda and meaningless “entertainment”. https://t.co/tZhAm4m3ns

— Lance A. Scott (@LanceAScott) July 25, 2019

And just a little fun:

I’ll allow this. ? https://t.co/IwfXYHQJpa

If your rep is having a town hall, Dem or GOP, you MUST attend it during the break. You MUST bring up impeachment. Bring a sign if need be. Whether or not they go full impeachment depends on it.

The media does what it’s told to do by the people who own it.

@Martin: Yep. I called me Rep yesterday and asked about town halls but the staffer couldn’t give me any info. Maybe they aren’t scheduled.

    Hmmm….is Washington turning on #MoscowMitch?

Mitch McConnell is a Russian asset.

This doesn’t mean he’s a spy, but neither is it a flip accusation. Russia attacked our country in 2016. It is attacking us today. Its attacks will intensify in 2020. Yet each time we try to raise our defenses to repel the attack, McConnell, the Senate majority leader, blocks us from defending ourselves.

Let’s call this what it is: unpatriotic. The Kentucky Republican is, arguably more than any other American, doing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s bidding.

    WaPo.

    Repeating again.

#MoscowMitchMcConnell helped a Russian Oligarch get sanctions removed.

Russian Oligarch rewards him by investing $200M in a Kentucky mill.

McConnell then blocks several election security bills again.

The pattern is clear, unchecked corruption and treason.

@Yarrow: @TaMara (HFG): This one is actually far worse. The lobbyist who brokered the deal is former Senator David “Diapers” Vitter from Louisiana. His wife had been nominated for a Federal judgeship. Other than being a lawyer, an anti-abortion activist, and a friend of Leonard Leo’s she wasn’t qualified. And, apparently, McConnell actually wasn’t going to move her nomination. He’d basically blackballed it, refusing to bring her nomination up for a floor vote. Then David Vitter came to him with the deal involving Deripaska’s company’s potential investment, but there was a hitch. The company was on the sanctions list. So McConnell arranged to have the sanctions adjusted to get Deripaska’s company out from under so the investment could be made. Then he took now Judge Vitter’s nomination out of the deep freeze and quickly moved it through a floor vote where she was confirmed. And, the final piece, of course, is Deripaska’s company’s investment in Kentucky during an election year so McConnell can campaign on the great investment that brought jobs to Kentucky during his reelection campaign.

We’ve got a bribe of investment during a reelection year from Vitter to McConnell in order to get Vitter’s wife confirmed as a Federal judge, which was done by reducing sanctions on one of Putin’s key oligarch catspaws by McConnell. Basically Vitter bought his wife a Federal judgeship from McConnell with Putin’s money laundered through Deripaska’s company.

@Adam L Silverman: Yep. The whole Deripaska thing is shocking in its boldness. It’s like Mitch thinks he’s untouchable. Interesting to see a lot of commentary from D.C. folks–pundits, media, etc.–on how he’s being unpatriotic. He’s got an election coming up. Could make that a bit more interesting.

Saw your comment–I’ll get to my email tomorrow. Thanks.

@Villago Delenda Est: I think Rosenberg was trying to make a point you’d make: that what Mueller said was important and even if it wasn’t exciting, it needs to be given appropriate, serious news coverage, not get dismissed because it wasn’t gripping television. He was basically calling out Chuck Todd without mentioning his name.

I was off-line during Mueller’s testimony and the very first related news I saw was on yahoo while checking my email: “Mueller hearing a disaster for democrats.”

I fucking can’t stop thinking about it. If I was a low-info voter literally the only thing I would know about the hearing is that it was (allegedly) disastrous. I didn’t log onto to fucking Fauxnews—I was just looking for a discount code in my email.

Yeah. Some of the teabaggers. Some of the newcomers. The treason is the RANKING Republicans, and the higher up like McConnell, the more direct the link.

They kinda have to be brazen because they got nothin’ otherwise. They’ve been a losing party for decades and it was this or wither away.

I’ve been calling this (and the NYT) for some time now, so it comes as no surprise to me. I also insist that Mike Pence is as dirty as Mitch, it’s just that Pence’s job is to not act and to look innocent.
