Cold Grey Pre-Dawn Open Thread: Mueller’s Hearing — the Nut Graf(s)

The Washington Post has a complete transcript of the proceedings, including Adam Schiff’s opening statement:

Your report, for those who have taken the time to study it, is methodical and it is devastating, for it tells the story of a foreign adversary’s sweeping and systemic intervention in a close U.S. presidential election.

That should be enough to deserve the attention of every American, as you well point out. But your report tells another story as well. The story of the 2016 election is also a story about disloyalty to country, about greed, and about lies.

Your investigation determined that the Trump campaign, including Donald Trump himself, knew that a foreign power was intervening in our election and welcomed it, built Russian meddling into their strategy and used it…

I don’t see the harm in beginning the impeachment process and thus airing all of Trump’s dirty laundry before the American people but obviously Democratic leadership doesn’t appear to see things that way.

The maddening thing, or rather the most maddening out of a whole host of things, is the obvious and crippling disparity in Media coverage of the Right vs the Left.

Every problem for the Right is viewed through the lens of “Will this be a problem for X Right Wing politician with their supporters? If not, and it never is, then it’s not a story, so move on.”

While every problem for the Left is viewed through the lens of “Will the Right be able to make this a problem for X Left Wing politician by lying about it? If so, and they always do, then it’s a story, so stay on it.

I know, I know, but it’s still infuriating.

The democratic members came prepared to show how the president obstructed justice, and the republicans ranted. We now know that facts don’t matter.

@Patricia Kayden: I don’t know if it’s part of the House’s rules, but both the Nixon and Clinton impeachment referrals required a vote from the House.

The long game is how the true reading of yesterday’s hearings stands up against the Fox/puke funnel spin that inundates the immediate aftermath, with the non-Fox-cult voting public.

Tesla shares tumble amid $408m loss and another high-profile departure

“Tesla struggles to fulfill its ambitious goals and promises on a long-term basis, and stumbles at logistical impediments despite huge advances in technology that keep consumers and investors interested,” said Alyssa Altman, a transportation lead at the digital consultancy Publicis Sapient. “To avoid a total car crash of the business in the next few years, Tesla needs to refocus its efforts from maintaining the appearance of a profitable and sustainable business model to actually delivering one.”

Thing that struck me the most was Mueller saying he fears foreign interference in our elections is the new norm. Cannot wait to see republican reaction when this helps Democrats.

@Patricia Kayden: They are asking us to push them, to show that we have their backs. Call and write your Congress critter and Senator, Democrat or Republican, and let them know that you find evidence overwhelming that the current usurper in the White House is a criminal and traitor who daily spits on his oath of office; the living embodiment of “High Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

    Elections Invalidated!
Seriously, the non-interference-of-the-interference moves by the Republicans seem intended to set up such a scenario for Nov 2020.

Remember those evil young Democrats who wanted a new House leader, and you all screamed, “NANCY SMASH!”?

How’s that working out for you?

It seems that she’s the one protecting the status quo more than anyone else on Capitol Hill.
She’s passing meaningless legislation that is currently sitting in Mitch McConnell’s waste bin.
She’s criticizing the Squad while also making sure the pro-Israel interests are dutifully serviced.
She and Charles Schumer are protecting “the institution”, and NOT protecting the nation.

Rome burns, and she’s making sure all the fiddles are properly tuned.

And you are attacking Democrats, and not offering any viable alternative strategies.

And she’s probably looking at her caucus and seeing not enough votes. Maybe you should be focusing on House members who don’t want to impeach?

    @david:

Did you watch the hearings yesterday? Are you aware that there at least 6 standing committees holding investigations into various illegal activities on the part of the Executive branch?

Did you hear former Special Prosecutor Mueller tell the nation, live, on TV before one of Nancy Pelosi’s committees that Trump’s actions were “Unethical and Immoral”…”Yes, and illegal”?

Did you hear Mr Mueller tell various Representatives in Congress that his investigation did NOT exonerate Trump?

Did you hear that Trump can be indicted once he leaves office?

Nae, you didn’t hear any of that, you were too busy crying and whingeing about bad Nancy Speaker. Dumb-ass. Probably not a bot, certainly NOT a Democratic party member, though. From St. Petersburg? Maybe. The lies certainly sound Russian Army GRU style.
