Carrizo Plain – A Closer Look…
Last time we looked at the vast landscape of the Carrizo Plain that lies between California’s southern Central Valley and the coast; including the last vestiges of the great bloom of 2019. These photos show some of the flowers that make up the bloom. I’m not sure what the names of the various flowers are, but they were as impressive up close as they were at a distance.

This was shot on Observation Hill and the wind was blowing quit strong. These little guys were covering the landscape up there.

These are the flowers that gave the distant shots the golden glow. This is again on the path to Soda Lake.

Buttonwillow, CA
This is the old jail in Buttonwillow, on the road to the Carrizo Plain. The old jail is in a residential neighborhood and from what I could gather it was next door to the Sheriff’s residence.
My next submission to OTR will be out of this world!
Thank you so much ?BillinGlendaleCA, do send us more when you can.

JPL
Thanks for including the picture of Barr’s future home.

@JPL: Why spoil a lovely landscape with that crook?
JPL
@?BillinGlendaleCA: What is the history behind the jail? It looks like it should have been in a John Wayne movie.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@JPL: Ah, I see, the jail. I’m not sure how old it is, Buttonwillow was incorporated in 1895. Being that it was/is a small town, they just built the jail next to the police chief’s house since they didn’t have a dedicated police station. They do now or they just send the folk that are arrested to Bakersfield(the county seat, it’s Kern County). The picture is a bit of a cheat, the real photo has houses in the background on the left side, I photoshopped them out and replaced them with farmland.

@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Alackaday, for I cannot see the Buttonwillow jail.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Amir Khalid: Try this link Amir.
ETA: It’s the original photo with the houses on the left.

@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Thank you. “Jail” does seem a fancy name for a one-cell police lockup.
Amir Khalid
Off topic; but if anyone’s interested to know, Julian Assange just got 50 weeks jail.
Matt McIrvin
@Amir Khalid: The one-cell hoosegow is a very Old West kind of a thing.
Steve in the ATL
@?BillinGlendaleCA:
Ah. I thought it was just the worst subdivision ever.
Steve in the ATL
@Amir Khalid: does he get credit for time served in the Ecuadorian embassy?
Barbara
@Amir Khalid: He said he was afraid of being extradited to the U.S. when at the time he was only at risk of being questioned by and then possibly being extradited to Sweden.
