For those who don’t read Balloon Juice on the weekend…
From commentor PirateDan:
Since I will be in Seattle on business for two weeks, I thought it might be nice to see if anyone was interested in using that as an excuse to stage a Seattle Area meetup that Friday or Saturday (or even Sunday) (May 3rd, 4th or 5th).
I know bupkis about Seattle, so I would defer to the locals as to when and where, if there is a when and where. I will have a rental set of wheels so I can be lured where the whimsy takes the group, as long as there is parking…
What say you, Seattle jackals?
Yutsano
I could do a cheap ass hotel/stay one night for Saturday or Sunday if not too late.

I’ll just reiterate, I should be available for Friday Night (post usual working hours), Saturday and up to Sunday afternoon late. I should have transportation, so locale is up those making the decisions.
Thank you for chiming in and any and all suggestions.

Oh, I could drive up for the meet up.. but honestly if you did it the weekend before on a Sunday that would be better as I’ll be at a conference in Bellingham and can stop by on my way down back to Portland on Sunday.

@Danielx: Your treat?
I’m retired and a number of others are on limited budgets, but it is a lovely place.
Just FYI: Friday traffic can be daunting. It took me 1 1/2 hours to drive from Ray’s Boathouse vicinity to my house on Beacon Hill – about 8 miles? Saturday afternoon and Sunday are usually the best bets if there are no games.

I’m in for a meet-up, Saturday is best, not too fancy, please!

@Yutsano: Hey Yutsano, Tri-Cities Beer Fest is happening 4/27. You’ll be on the list (plus 1) if you want to come out, and no worries if you decide not to come.

How many people would be coming up from the south? Because the further north we can go, the better – in terms of parking and traffic.
Bumper
I’d like to come. From way south. Location not too critical, have gotten used to driving to U District from here. Just need enough notice. Relatively easy parking would be helpful.

I have a college reunion that weekend. Can you change the venue to Virginia? TIA.

@Dan B:
I admit I left out the part about “have a buttload of cash” – been there twice and both were expensed occasions. Couldn’t afford it on my own.

i may be enticed to come out for this.

trying to remember that I am not the reason, but I am the excuse :-)
something seafood oriented would be preferred, because the choices in Tucson tend to be limited, but to be honest, the meal is kinda secondary (at least for me).

The fishing season in Alaska may have started but would likely be pricier flown in fresh. Local clams and oysters would be easy to find, and velly pricey crab. Puts thinking toque on.. Looks at newspaper & internet.

@piratedan: A relatively inexpensive but fantastic option would be Maneki. It’s a seafood centric 108 year old Japanese restaurant. The Black Cod is unbelievably good, sweet, salty, and a touch of earthiness from the sake lees. Salmon is great too but not as interesting for locals. The selection is very large. They have plain non-seafood items for people who prefer that.
They have private dining rooms so it would be quiet. Parking is a bit tough but not anywhere close to downtown, Capitol Hill, or many other restauranty neighborhoods. Getting there is reasonably easy from most of the city except Ballard or Magnolia. It’s close to both interstates, literally a few blocks from each.
Reservations are a must for weekends.
I found good info on Foursquare and their website. I haven’t been in years but would love an excuse to do some up to date research.

Looks like it’s close to light rail so we could do that. Japanese food would be a hit with my family.

@Dan B: run with it young padawan, build consensus and maybe a saturday afternoon about 4ish might be more amenable in availability?

Hi, everyone –
Chiming in to say Dan B’s idea sounds good to me! Always happy to check out a new Japanese food restaurant, and South Seattle might mean the southerly folks can join us!
I’ll ask Ann Laurie to post an update this weekend.
