Front-paging a message from the indefatigable SiubhanDuinne:
HERE IS A NICE EFG UPDATE FOR YOU
Got a call a while ago from mrs efg, to let me know that our beloved efg was moved out of the ICU this afternoon (which came as a big surprise to me, as I guess I hadn’t realised he was in Intensive Care in the first place) and is now in a normal hospital room. He is such an intensely private guy that I don’t feel comfortable sharing any of the medical details. Suffice to say that he is vastly improved, even from a day or two ago, has regained some appetite, and is evidently returning to his curmudgeonly status quo.
He has already received several cards — THANK YOU, Jackals! — and would love to get more. Again, for those who missed or misplaced it, here’s the best address:

32 Anthony Drive
Cumberland, RI 02864I know a couple of people said in an earlier thread that they were planning to write to him, and I hope lots of you will. Postcards, greeting cards, casual notes, long printed-out screeds, anything and everything legal to send through the U.S. Mail — all lift his spirits greatly.
Happy to be able to share some good news, and may repost this when the night crew signs in.
As Adam would say: YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO, JACKALS!

Thank you so much, AL, for giving EFG the FP treatment!
Indefatigably yours, etc.,

Thanks so much. Rock on!

Already sent a card–you go, efg!
Ohio Mom
Anytime someone moves out of the ICU into a regular room is a good, good day. Hip hip hooray!
Sab
Sending my card tomorrow. It’s a winter one, with hills (!) in Ohio.
eclare
I will pick up a card tomorrow and inscribe in it one of Ms. Cracker’s wonderful tweets in response to Trump saying he had the military, the police, and Bikers for Trump on his side.
“We have Samuel L. Jackson, science, and Dykes on Bikes. I like our chances, Lumpy.”
SiubhanDuinne
@eclare:
Betty Cracker is fucking genius. You know it, I know it, the American people know it.
SiubhanDuinne
@Sab:
Except for a little stretch around Cincinnati, Ohio is the second-flattest state I have ever seen. Congratulations on finding a card featuring [*FANFARE*] “The Hills of Ohio.” I’m sure efg will love it.
Luciamia
For those out of the loop, what happened?
Yutsano
Oh how frabjous! I shall have to see what I can do once I myself have sprung from hospital. Which is on course for Sunday.
satby
@SiubhanDuinne: and thank you Subaru, for being our efg lifeline!
Ohio Mom
@SiubhanDuinne: Cincinnati doesn’t have hills, it has valleys: it’s the terminal side of a plateau, and the valleys are where rivers and streams cut into the plateau.
The west and middle of the state are flat, I’ll give you that. When my mother drive from New York to visit me, she said she could see why the pioneers were excited to get here, so much flat land to farm.
But the eastern part is hilly — just like its neighbor, West by God Virginia.
Thanks for keeping us updated on efg.
satby
@Yutsano: wow, didn’t realize you were still in the hospital ?
Hope your recovery stays on track and you get out on schedule. Take care!

@Luciamia:
Regular commenter efgoldman has had health problems for a while and has been in and out of the hospital.
Ohio Mom
@Yutsano: Excellent! Glad to hear your recovery is apace.
SiubhanDuinne
@Yutsano:
Counting down the days with you!

Fuckem.
Wait, I think I did that wrong. Get your ass back here, efg, and show us how it’s done.

@Yutsano:
More great news!
Yutsano
@satby: @SiubhanDuinne: Inpatient rehab is going very well. Did I ever give my diagnosis here? I’m not sure. It’s pretty ugly.
Honus
@SiubhanDuinne: need to check out Monroe county sometime. As hilly as any part of West Virginia.
Honus
Can you say fuckem on a postcard?
Ohio Mom
@Yutsano: As I recall, your dx was something I’d never heard of and had to google. It has something to do with muscle breaking down and overtaxing the kidneys, or something like that. How close am I? Is it a one-off type of thing or a chronic condition to be managed? Since I forget it’s name, I can’t google it again.
SiubhanDuinne
@Omnes Omnibus:
It’s weird, isn’t it, that certain words and phrases lose a little je ne sais quoi when written by anyone other than the originator.
EFG: Fuckem.
Yarrow: Tick tock, motherfuckers.
OzarkHillbilly: Blech.
… and many more.
SiubhanDuinne
@Honus:
Do you have a good stock of asterisks?
Robert Bowsher
@Ohio Mom: My daughter goes to UC. I don’t believe that campus is on any kind of a valley whatsoever – it runs uphill in all directions.
SiubhanDuinne
@Yutsano:
If you did, I missed it (phone is on life support, so I’m missing a lot these days, sorry). Hope whatever it is is much improved for you.
Barbara
@Yutsano: It begins with the letters rh? It sounds awful and I hope your recovery continues apace.
B.B.A.
Godspeed, EFG. I think of you whenever I say “fuckem.” Which is a lot.
NotMax
EFG: Stay crusty, dude.
@SiubhandDuinne
Have a video mini-series recommendation which you would undoubtedly enjoy (as would MomSense, I’m sure) but feel reticent about possibly derailing this thread.
Ohio Mom
@Robert Bowsher: UC is on top of the plateau — next time you’re visiting, drive down Ohio Avenue (the street with the Urban Oufitters store in the old church) to its end at Bellevue Park. There’s a fabulous view and you will see the geology clearly.
Also, UC used to be even hillier. They did a lot of earth moving to smooth out the worst of the bumps over the last twenty or so years. But yes, walking through that campus remains a workout.
Ohio Mom
@NotMax: I think I’ve already derailed it!
Alternative Fax, a hip hop artist from Idaho
@Yutsano: You did and it is. Don’t ask me to repeat it as I’m so tired I can’t see straight. AS I recall it can be managed?
Glad to hear you’re getting sprung and hope outpt rehab will be good.
Got a card off to efg and another one planned to hit the mail tomorrow.
Also Ohio Mom speaks the truth about Cincinnati and its valleys (and topology), includng the view heading down from UC.
NotMax
@OhioMom
Nah, you didn’t. Threads tonight seem … segmented, and difficult to tell which are active. Think I many best wait for the ‘anything goes’ morning thread.
NotMax
@NotMax
may, not many

Good to see good news from efg and bonus good news from Yutsano. Sad sad night otherwise.
Mel
@SiubhanDuinne: Seconded! So very glad that he is feeling better.
J R in WV
It’s supposed to be nearly 80 here today, was high 70s yesterday, and we have a ton of south-facing glass. Normally that’s a good thing, but before the leaves come out we can over-do the heat uptake. I had to fire up the A/C yesterday evening, briefly, and will no doubt need it again this evening as well.
VW last week had all the dash warning lights on last week. Took it in Monday, and they told us there was a ABS sensor failing and a wheel bearing also going. That and a 40K maintenance will run over $1.2 K — ouch! Second major repair, last one was closer to $3K… have lost patience with maintenance costs, will get rid of the Tiguan for something less likely to cause headaches like this. It’s a nice riding vehicle, but reliability is also part of the good vehicle equation.
Will try to get a card into the mail for EFG soonest.
