Late Night Open Thread: The Good Kind of Crazy

Think I first discovered this blog through TBogg, whose then-blog I discovered through Sadly, NO!

From the Washington Post:

The ad is a follow-up to one titled “Dream Crazy,” which featured Colin Kaepernick and was first aired during the NFL’s regular season opener in September. “Dream Crazier” is also meant to begin the drumbeat to the Women’s World Cup this summer and it includes members of the U.S. women’s national soccer team, as well as three Olympic medalists: gymnast Simone Biles, snowboarder Chloe Kim and fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad.

“If we show emotion, we’re called dramatic,” Williams, who reportedly has been enlisted to help present the best picture nominees at the Oscars, says in the ad. “If we want to play against men, we’re nuts. And if we dream of equal opportunity, we’re delusional. When we stand for something, we’re unhinged. When we’re too good, there’s something wrong with us. And if we get angry, we’re hysterical, irrational, or just being crazy. “…

    Q: When?
    A: ‘Soon.’
    Q: What about last time?
    A: ‘Didn’t win the nomination.’
    (Does not make sense.)

Someone suggested he’s still ‘not ready yet’ with *historical records* bc he’s still paying fines to the IRS; for ex., could be something related to Burlington College.

I think he said (paraphr): “A few little mechanical things … (b/c) we don’t have an accountant and my wife does them.”

    Oh brother. Get an accountant?

Back in the day, we had the Crazy Canucks.

Skiiers, who’s attitudes were “either I’ll win, or I’ll crash”.

    Inspired a generation.

.@BernieSanders makes a compelling case on how Trump voters are unfairly painted as racists. What they need is decent health care, a good job and a fair playing field. He says he can uniquely reach out to Trump country. #SandersTownHall

@rikyrah: I firmly believe it’s going to be the Lefty POC, especially Women of Color (WOC?) that’s going to keep the American Left in general from putting its head so far up its own ass that it turns into a saddening oroboros.

Serena Williams is a splendid human being. I hope to see her continue to be splendid for a long, long time.

TBogg was pivotal to my discovery of FireDogLake before the rabies, TRex back when he had a site, and Balloon Juice. His tales of bassets, the smokin’ hot Mrs Bogg, and the Lovely and Talented Casey and her soccer career were engaging counterpoints to his scathing posts on the Bush Maladmininstration and it’s chucklefuck enablers.

It’s an ad, but it made me cry. In the seventies, I was often the only girl in the weight room. So, so glad things have changed for young female athletes, but not enough, apparently.

Good news: pretty much every day of the week, women get equal time on the Olympic Channel. Can’t tell you how revolutionary that feels.

There’s a memory jolt. I used to have Sadly,No! bookmarked and read it all the time. I guess that was on my old work computer because it isn’t on any of my current ones.

@rikyrah: This confirms something for me. It had been growing in my mind that there were unfortunate similarities between Trump and Sanders beyond the bad hair. The tendency to rant, the cavalier approach to other people’s money and tax laws, the only I can save you bs. Unsettling.

Two of my nieces played college basketball, S was a point guard and L a power forward. I was visiting my sister and the girls invited me to the outdoor court at a park on a Saturday morning. A couple of guys in their late 20’s were at one end the girls at the other. The guys asked if they wanted to play two on two half court. My nieces kicked their asses. L who is 6-2 and weighs about 180, dunked over one of the guys. She had knocked him out of the way on her trip to the hoop. She tossed him the ball and said, “That one is on you little man!”

Nether of them take any shit from anybody on or off court.

One isn’t as bad as the other. Can’t actually tell which one though.
OK maybe one isn’t as bad because he lost. There, that’s the reason.
Old white men of perceived or real power who should have neither because they are delusional old white farts who think they are the only ones who can save the world from other delusional old white farts. An extremely unreasonable reason to elect someone to the presidency.
