So today is especially great – in your own backyard, and awesome. I so love the colors of lanterns and such nighttime illumination. It can be an entire language to a stranger in the dark.
Have a great (Boxing, or normal) day everybody!

As we came to the end of our fair haired adventurer’s trek though New Zealand, it’s time to return to our backyard for some festive lights. A friend of Madame and I had invited us and the fair haired adventure to the Chinese Light Festival at the LA County Fairgrounds in Pomona. The kid was unable to go since she had contracted the flu(yes she had a flu shot, it’s required for work). I’ve told her she needs to stay away from sick folk. So the three of us went and I, of course, took pictures.

This might be a clue to a couple of additional posts featuring our fair haired adventurer. So stay tuned, “Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel…”.

Here we have to panda shaped lanterns, I’m not sure what the gold thing or the green bottle is supposed to be. It was a Chinese Lantern Festival, so ya gotta have pandas.

This set of tiger lanterns was pretty wide, so I shot it as several pictures and put them together in post.

Mirror Lake in New Zealand’s got nothing on this! They had a long body of water with a barge in it with lanterns that nicely reflected in the water.

Here’s the very colorful entrance to the festival. As you can see, the theme is “The Wild”, most of the lanterns were animal related.
Thank you so much ?BillinGlendaleCA, do send us more when you can.
Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

Speaking of travel, Bro’ Man and I are motoring up to Philadelphia this morning to take the eponymous hound of Sighthound Hall, Kitty, to get her teeth and nails did at NGAP (greyhound adoption organization).
I’m soliciting suggestions for lunch and Italian market-type places on the north side. Altomonte’s is on the list from last time, but I’d love to hear about other favorites.

I was informed over Christmas dinner that there are more pictures from New Zealand, so the first part of the first sentence is incorrect. Our young adventurer was able to see the posts and was quite happy with them and your kind comments.

Beautiful. I love Christmas/holiday lights. They are needed at this time of year.

I love the lantern festival shots, so pretty!

Beautiful and inventive!

@Elizabelle: Thanks, I’ve been taking some pics of the local lighting here in the hood.
@StringOnAStick:
@stinger: They were nice, but it was chilly and the cost of tickets and parking was a bit pricey.
I should make one other correction…the kid didn’t have the flu but a sinus infection. She got a quick referral to get it all fixed up, it helps to work in a hospital with ENTs on staff.
