Fiordland to Milford Bay
In our continuing journey with Jinsun in New Zealand we travel from the Fiordand National Park to Milford Bay. This area is in the southern portion of the South Island just west of Queenstown.
(I only had the hashtags Fiordland and Milford Bay from her FB posts so it took a bit of research to nail the locations down since the planed visit from our guide didn’t materialize due to the onset of the flu.)

Mirror Lakes, South Island, New Zealand
Here’s the South Island Alps mirrored in Mirror Lake(or lakes). They call it Mirror Lakes, but there only seems to be one. It’s a particularly nice view especially with the early spring snow still on the mountains.

Mirror Lakes, South Island, New Zealand
Mirror Lakes(or lake) is a long, narrow lake in the Eglinton Valley that perfectly reflect the mountains just to the west. Here we get a bit less of a reflection and a nice shot of Mt. Eglinton.

Pop’s View, South Island, New Zealand
At Pop’s View the road turn from north to west for the journey to Milford Sound. The lush valley provides a nice foreground to the snowy peaks in the background.
Thank you so much ?BillinGlendaleCA, do send us more when you can.
Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

Hmmm, there’s a missing picture. I’ll put up a link to it on my Flickr. Then again, I just could have screwed up the submission.

@?BillinGlendaleCA: Here’s a link to the missing pic, it’s of a place called the Chasm. It’s where the river goes over a waterfall, the shot captures the river just as it’s flowing to the waterfall.
Amir Khalid
If I squint very hard, I can see the Fellowship of the Ring hiking in the distance.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Amir Khalid: I didn’t see the movies, but the chances are pretty good. Quite a bit of the filming was done on both the North and South Islands.

I’ve been to Mirror Lake — thanks for happy memories. Such a beautiful place.

@?BillinGlendaleCA: and though they’re all beautiful, that one is my personal favorite. Thank Jinsun for us, and thank you Bill for the tweaking that makes them pop.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@arrieve: It looks really pretty, alot of her pics from the South Island remind me of southern Alaska.
@satby: Pity my prose attached to the pic went to the bit bucket?. She inherited her photography skills from her mother(that’s a good thing), she saw the pre-Thanksgiving entries and was very appreciative of the kind comments. She also seemed pretty happy with “Dad’s photo processing lab”.
JPL
@?BillinGlendaleCA: All the pictures are wonderful, and thank you for the additional link. What a great vacation.

There are two big fjords on the South Island that have regular tourist boats. Milford Sound is the popular choice, since it’s a bit easier to get to. Doubtful Sound is more of a trek – you take a bus to the shores of Lake Manapouri, cross that in a boat and pick up another bus to take you to the head of the fjord, where you go on another boat. It takes all day, obviously.
Here’s Lake Manapouri from the boat.

What a beautiful country!

@JPL: I’m quite envious of her trip, except the jumping off perfectly good bridges and jumping from perfectly good airplanes. Yes, there is video. Next year she and her mom are off to China.
@Gin & Tonic:
Want to take a wild guess as to where the next set of pics will be from?
@debbie: It’s really pretty.
rikyrah
Love the pictures ?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@rikyrah: Happy you like them.

Every great author needs a good editor.
Well done all around.
HinTN
@HinTN: Thrice if you count what it tried to do WHILE editing. Blech
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Wag: They are impressive, but not that tall. Here’s info on the tallest one.

Oohh Rainbow! Those are hard to catch, just ask the folks looking for the gold!

Thanks.

@J R in WV: She loves traveling and seeing new things. She really wants to go to Korea with her mom, that was the plan, but her mom got laid off at Macy’s. Fuck Macy’s!
In addition to going to China with her mom, she also wants to go to Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone.

@Gin & Tonic:
Great picture!

Great pics of a lovely country. I like the Chasm one, too.
