I love Maine. Maine is my home. I am the governor of Maine, and I have fought for Maine my whole life.
But now that I'm done being elected to things, I am going to Florida. Adios, saps! https://t.co/zogURe1A3f— Tom Nichols (@RadioFreeTom) November 5, 2018

Sure, he *could* have saved his big reveal till after the polls closed Tuesday… but by then, how many reporters will care where Paul LePage is going?
Not that there isn’t lots of competition in the GOP’s ‘Reached Bottom, Still Digging’ Competition…

Uh, didn’t Kemp have an ad of a dude happily toting a gun, said dude being reprehensible dumbass Brian Kemp?
I really want to see this cohort — Kemp, DeSantis, Kobach, Corey Stewart — go down in fiery wreckage to be remembered as ignominious object lessons in how NOT to run for office.

@FlipYrWhig: I’d like to see them all frog marched off the stage..but that’s too ‘on the nose’ for this bunch of Pepe’s

I think the LePage kids paid in state tuition in Florida before he was elected in 2010. Ann was a F L resident then and there was some kind of tax kerfuffle around declaring a homestead deduction in both states.
Gretchen
That Kemp ad pointing the gun at his daughter’s boyfriend is chilling. Not just from a contemporary domestic violence view, but it made me really see him as a slaveholder who thought it was ok to use a gun to keep his “property” in line. It was too clear of a throwback. It must just eat him up to have to act respectful to a black woman.

From the last thread
Reaching across the aisle for democrats means agreeing with every last idiotic policy the GOP wants. It has been this way since forever. When democrats have a majority – they must work across the aisle, then republicans have a majority they don’t have to talk to the democrats about anything.
Not to mention, President Obama is uppity – he should be thanking the GOP for letting him live in the White House.

Yes, but Kemp and his white supremacist buddies are Law-Abiding Gun Owners, unlike the Scary Terrorists of the New Black Panthers.
Kemp carries a paper bag in his pocket so he can be sure to tell them apart.

Boy I hope the election goes well. Other than the election, I have a fairly nice day planned: coworkers are taking me to a ‘farewell’ dim sum lunch, then we’re doing some cross-team bonding thing, where we go to like a woodshop class I guess? Then I’ll be seeing my therapist while the returns start to come in.
WaterGirl
@Major Major Major Major: Well, at least you don’t have to face this election while going through two of the biggest life stressors — moving and changing jobs. Just think about how you would be feeling then. :-)
Major Major Major Major
@WaterGirl: The new job is actually better in every single way and everybody’s really nice. The move-out part of the move is over forever. I’m way less stressed now than I was a week ago.
Just realized I’ve been staying in my friend’s spare bedroom/rabbit hutch for a week now! He’s so nice to put me up. Everybody I know is super frazzled.
Gretchen
Being with your therapist when the returns start coming in sounds like a good plan. I wish I could join you.

@Gretchen: it’s a bit excruciating sometimes (this just happens with Tuesday appointments), since I obviously don’t look at the news during them.

@Major Major Major Major: We’re taking some food to the campaign HQ tomorrow around noon in Redmond, WA because they’ll still be phone banking.
The big election party tomorrow night is in Bellevue at the Hilton and we are thinking of going to that. Have to decide if we want to go out in the rain tomorrow evening, and how late we want to stay out. I’d have to dress up a bit and still be warm enough. Parking may be a problem. We’re old and we can always be nervous wrecks at home and not get wet and cold.
We were stunned that the big wheels, our US senator and congresswoman showed up at the Redmond office on the night of the primary, with the press following them. We were there to support our local people, state senator and the two district reps (Washington is weird, we have two state representatives for each district) and didn’t expect anyone higher, figured they’d be in Seattle. Probably went there afterward. We’re still chuckling that Senator Maria Cantwell came up to us with the cameras rolling and grabbed us and hugged us, and thanked us. I was startled and didn’t realize who she was but I smiled and mumbled something nice back to her.
opiejeanne
@terry chay: Everybody vote blue! Cheers!

I think Colbert is going to be doing a live show on returns tomorrow night.
Major Major Major Major
@opiejeanne: sometimes I feel like I maybe only know what fifteen or twenty senators look like.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Major Major Major Major: That’s probably 15 or 20 more than most folk.
opiejeanne
@Major Major Major Major: I only sort of knew what she looked like, but I’d never seen her that close so I was confused for a split second whether she was Representative Suzan delBene or Maria Cantwell. they both have dark hair and only resemble each other in the most superficial way: white, female, dark hair. I don’t see their pictures very often, but I saw Suzan out of the corner of my eye and recognized her when I was being hugged and realized omg a US Senator is hugging us!
She was thanking us for the cameras and I have no clue what I said, possibly something that sounded odd to her. It looked like I was doing data entry but I was really just visiting with someone who was doing the work and I think I said something about that. Not the response she wanted or expected.
I do know what my state senator looks like. Her name is Manka Dhingra and we met her at a smallish event last spring. I know what my two reps look like, Larry Springer and Roger Goodman but Springer always has the same effect on me, which one is this guy, oh that’s Roger over there so this is Larry. I have no idea why. Larry looks a lot older and Roger is somewhat handsome, but they’re both white guys so maybe we really all do look alike.
opiejeanne
@?BillinGlendaleCA: I saw Tim Kaine on tv at a rally for a democrat, can’t remember where he was but probably in his home state, and I had to wait until his name came to me. I suppose we’ll know one of the Utah senators after tomorrow. The other one is a nice-looking youngish black woman that right now I couldn’t pick out of a crowd.
I probably know what more Congressmen look like than senators right now because of the cable shows.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@opiejeanne:
Especially since the junior US Senator from Utah is a white guy, Mike Lee. I think you’re think of Rep. Mia Love.
opiejeanne
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Oh, that was exactly who I was thinking of.
Mike Lee is probably a Mormon so he’d be a well-fed, fresh-faced young kid of about 40. Maybe with red hair; Brigham Young did get around.

Hi all from the future – it’s a quiet Tues night down here in Oz. No one has been elected today, but a horse was put down during the (barbaric) Melbourne Cup. I voted absentee a few weeks ago (blue ticket all the way plus yes to question 3 on the MA ballot) so i’m just crossing all my fingers and toes it goes all right for the US in the next 12 hours or so.
In other news, my cats are cute, spring is delightful, it poured rain today (we’re in drought this is great), Mr Trowel surprised me with the dairy free coconut almond ice cream i love and my PhD students are all working hard and getting stuff done. Book writing still sucks though.

I hope Andrew Gillum wins in a landslide and, as his first act as governor, puts up roadblocks at the state line to keep wingnut assholes like LePage out of Florida.
Seriously, we’re over capacity on right-wing fart huffers down here. Rush Limbaugh. Matt Drudge. Ann Coulter. Mike Huckabee. Donald Fucking Trump. Stay away, LePage!
Horror novelist and good Democrat Stephen King is a part time resident. But we need someone seriously cool like JK Rowling to move here to offset all the wingnut choads.

People like LePage lurves them the low tax angle in such places and maybe he’s rich enough that it works for him. But his wanna-bes, like the ones I know in NY, pay into a social system their whole working lives, then… just when they need it… they move to a state with no taxes… and no services.
Why don’t they live there now? Why don’t they just move there? Because they can’t make a LIVING there, that’s why.

Did anyone check out Kemp’s fearmongering photo?
the guys are standing in their own shadows because the sun is behind them, but the sign is as bright as day.
the sign itself is cutting INTO the hood of the car, that has the sign reflected off it like the guy is standing at the passenger door instead of just *in front of* that car.
It is PHOTOSHOPPED to hell and back.
Shows how much of a liar Kemp is, and how desperate he is to fearmonger.

@Major Major Major Major:
Well, most of them ARE old guys with white hair. They’re hard to tell apart.

Very appropriate that LeRage will be a Floriduh Man. Maine will be well rid of him; it’s just too bad we weren’t shed of him years ago.
Tokyokie
@PaulWartenberg: Kemp didn’t do the Photoshopping, folks at Breitbart did. The Kemp campaign merely provided a link to make racist garbage across the Peachtree State comfortable with their hate-filled agenda. But, as you should be aware, because blacks couldn’t carry assault weapons when the 2nd Amendment was written, the constitutional originalists on the high court argue that the right to bear arms only applies to white folks.

@PaulWartenberg: You can come up for the party. Just remember we’re dyna miting the bridge at the end of the fireworks.

If I were forced to make the choice between Florida and Maine, well (no disrespect to Florida Juicers) that’s a no-brainer, it would be Maine.

@MomSense:
Depends on when/if/how many refugees in the caravan actually make to the US border. Trump and his crooked regime are going to need some sort of “good news” to rally the dispirited: ginning up a couple more episodes of “Fear Theater: Invasion USA!!” to try to capture a few news cycles isn’t too non-credible.
