Only eight days til the election. Vote early if you can! Otherwise, make a voting plan for election day. Mine is to go to the poll on the way to work after we drop the baby at daycare.
Let’s keep raising for the More More More fun. We already blew through our goal but I think the money here can make a difference.
I’d like to keep giving to Four Directions, which works on ballot access for Native American voters too.
Thanks everyone for being so generous. We’ve raised a little over 355K this cycle.
This Stevie classic seems appropriate these days.

We live right next door to our polling place. And since John goes to work over an hour before I do in the AM, we’ll go right after I get home from work.

@Mary G:
I saw that earlier today. That is quite the slide. Nothing could make me happier than to see that dip below 40% before election day.
japa21
@Mary G: So that too. Of course Gallup and CNN are both purveyors of fake news. For GOP, this slide in Trump’s popularity couldn’t have come at a worse time. For Dems, it is the perfect time.
??? Goku (aka Amerikan Baka) ??
@Mary G:
Could this be a result of the MAGAbomber and the Pittsburgh mass shooting agianst the synagogue and Trump’s callous response to it?

I think this will get some Republicans, the ones uncomfortable with the ignorance and racism but who had been wavering because they were feeling wealthier to jump off the fence to the left:
It’s long overdue, but the tax giveaway boosted prices for a while, but that was a short term sugar high and now it’s not looking too good for investors. B of A says volatility will last through 2021. CNN Money’s Greed and Fear index is way over in Extreme Fear territory at 9 out of 100, whereas a year ago today it was way up in Greed is Good land at 74 of 100.
SenyorDave
@Mary G: Quite a drop. Trump slides from 44-50 to 40-54 in Gallup.
The thing to remember is that if Trump beheaded a baby on national TV, dismembered it, put it in a blender and drank the remains, he would still poll at least 30% favorable. My guess is his supporters would admire his honesty, strength, and good eating habits.

@goblue72: There’s also an article questioning Sinema’s childhood account.

I will be away from home for the next few weeks so I can’t help this year with getting voters to the polls. I did vote about 2 hours ago for all the Dems that Florida offers, at least.

@SenyorDave:
I think the number you’re looking for is 27%.
Barbara
@Mary G: The highest he ever got was 45%. This looks like a reversion to the mean. Also, every time his approval gets that high it’s usually because he has (for him) been relatively quiet. It’s like being in a place where active gunfire is going on. As soon as you peak out thinking the coast might be clear, or Trump might have become just a little bit more presidential, all of a sudden, the shooting starts up again.
ETA: I would note that his 54% disapproval rate is definitely down from the high of 60%. Except for right at the beginning of his term, his disapproval rate has never been lower than 50% in the Gallup poll.

@JPL: trying not to worry about the Sinema/McSally race, the vitriol coming from the GOP is nearly running around with hair on fire levels…. they’ve equated her telling some libertarian dipshit that if he wanted to go join up with the Taliban he was certainly welcome to do so, which was conflated by the McSally GOP camp with being akin to treason and her indicating that AZ state politics as being a weird but strange as something beyond the pale when anyone living here over the last 30 years would have no reason not to corroborate that statement (after you’ve lived thru Ev Mecham, Fife Symington and local legislators nominating their districts as potential nuclear waste dump sites because it would be considered a “money-maker”)…. and the majority of the Sinema ads have focused on McSally’s ACA votes in favor of the GOP removal of pre-existing condition coverage and McSally lying about that… its been a very heated race that makes you want to avoid the idiot box altogether (so that’s what I do)… all of the polling says its a close race with Sinema slightly ahead and while she’s not perfect, Sinema is a damn sight better McSally (who’s even running ads that if we strengthen the border/build the wall with Mexico that will help resolve our opioid crisis, I shit you not).

Here at my workplace I’ve had two R’s tell me – quietly, when we’re alone – that they are upset that all GOP members are getting painted with this broad brush like they’re all Trump supporters. They say this – quietly, when we’re alone – and yet I haven’t heard or seen any of them (actually anywhere!) make a dissenting cry or protest over anything he’s done.
Fascist cowards, all of them.

My phone number appears to have gotten on the Republican voter list as belonging to some poor misguided fool naned Linda. I told them to die in a fire a few times, but it might be more fun to pretend to support the sociopath parry.
edit: I am suddenly getting many text messages about a Trump rally in Pensacola. They are in deep trouble if Gaetz is one of the congressmen they’re worried about. My county was the most Republican in the whole state in 2016.

Voted this morning. As someone else here said last night, I’d rather vote on election day — I like going to my polling place in the town hall and seeing all the folks there, and chit-chatting with people I don’t see very often. But I have an already-postponed root canal scheduled for Tuesday, so I thought I’d better not chance it.
Feels good to have made sure!

Gotta love the school administrators who decided to try to put the kids back in class and pretend that nothing happened. It sounds as though neither the kids nor the parents were putting up with that shit.

@Mnemosyne – Yup, and having a school resource officer at the school(they have one) did not stop this from happening. Where did a high school kid get a hand gun? I am betting Mom or Dad’s weapon but who knows?

Not really. That’s easily within the margin of error of their poll. A swing that size in a single poll tells you very little.

@piratedan: My family voted yesterday in GA. One son is going to be in Phoenix on election day so it was important that he vote early. It would be nice for him to be in a state that elected a democrat to the Senate, because it’s going to be awhile before that happens here.

@JPL: Yup. I mean, any newspaper employing Maggie Haberman (and having previously employed Judith Miller) is clearly in the bag for the plutocrats. But its still galling from the newspaper touted as the country’s “Newspaper of Record”.

Meh, Ted Cruz or one of his PACs has been running ads about that for a month now.

@Spanky: The Methodists, to a greater or lesser extent depending on time & place, have traditionally been the church of the common person in contrast with the Episcopalians as traditionally the church of the upper classes.

@Ocotillo: Which just makes it more galling that the NY Times would give it any bandwidth. And shows how the right wing continues to “work the refs” by promoting garbage at the margins until the mainstream press picks it up with “some people say….”

Not a race that I’d been following, but this looks encouraging even though the two most recent polls show that Rohrabacher is ahead:
Harley Rouda (D) Forecast vote share 51.3%
Dana Rohrabacher (R) Forecast vote share 48.7%
I don’t think I’d bet the farm on Rouda winning, but he’s certainly got a chance of showing that asshole the door.

@goblue72: And working the refs doesn’t have to be overt. Here’s a headline from today’s NYT: Gillum’s Dilemma: Florida Is Actually Five States.
Putting aside the silliness of such a dogmatic assertion, assume that it is true. Why isn’t the headline “DeSantis’s Dilemma: Florida Is Actually Five States“? Why is Gillum facing the “dilemma” but DeSantis is not?
Of course the skeptic might argue that I’m reading too much into an isolated example, but these isolated examples seem mighty common to me.

If that’s what their plan was, they seem to have failed miserably. But, then, most administrators seem fairly clueless about how to actually prevent an event from blowing up in their faces.

@Dorothy A. Winsor: “He claimed that canvassers know who you voted for in past elections. That seemed unlikely to me. What say you?”
They — and the campaigns they work for — really don’t need to see your actual vote, in order to make a really good guess based upon demographics/publicly available info, including social media. This is what Cambridge Analytica(sp) and similar firms were built upon.

I’m standing in a looo-o-ing line at the USPS waiting to buy stamps for my Heidi Heitkamp postcards, and there’s a woman behind me on the phone with a roofing contractor or something, and she’s telling him about a hole in her roof and she keeps talking about how all the rain water is getting into the addict. I didn’t mishear; she’s said it three times.

@Dorothy A. Winsor: I got calls for years after I voted in the Republican primary in order to vote AGAINST Daddy Bush in the primary that year. Political calls and right to life calls for decades, not just years.
For ages, I would string them along saying things like “I hate to say this, but won’t be voting for X because of this terrible thing they just did / position they just took. That is really disappointing and is a bridge too far”.
If they are stupid enough to have me on their list, I’m all for wasting their time.
